THIS! I happen to like boring. Words can't describe how strung out I felt between 2017 and 2020, waking up every morning and the first thought that creeped into my mind was: "What did that crazy bastard Trump say, do or tweet to inflame things while I slept?" I've had no such concerns since 'Sleepy Joe' was elected.

As said before, I like oatmeal. A president who spends less time in the press talking about himself/herself/themselves and more on doing policies and fixing things for people is a win for me. I loath The Bush clan but compared to Regan and Trump they at least kept the hell out of the spotlight.

So yes, happy to have a boring president who gets things done.

The Republicans at the top most certainly do NOT want Trump to run again. However, the evangelical wing of the party is standing by him and is unwilling to accept that he is anything other than the Second Coming, despite sharing more traits with the Biblical Antichrist than a return of the first one. So the party is stuck with someone proven to drive negative voter turnout like no one else in history.

The Democrats are in a donut hole for the party. Leadership is basically in 2 groups - quite old or not quite ready. The leaders of the next generation mostly haven't been able to generate a real national following yet.

Bible thumpers are notorious one issue voters, and for them, that issue is abortion. When Trump played them like the proverbial fiddle by vowing to kill Roe v. Wade if elected, that was all it took to reel in the holy rollers, and they’ve been steadfastly in his camp ever since. While the GQP wants to quit Trump, they know they can’t while he holds an unbreakable sway over that evangelical bloc, and without it, their chances in ‘24, already shaky, sink even lower.

As for Democrat hopefuls for 2028, your guess is as good as mine. Kamala? I don’t know if she has the stones for the big chair, though she’ll probably be the leading candidate if she chooses to run. Hakeem Jeffries? No clue, does he have the experience for the world stage? Mayor Pete? Not sure, and he’s already taken a crack at the Oval Office. I’m no political junkie, so I don’t know who else might be out there.

If he runs again he’ll be 86 by end of term. Realistically he’s already showing some signs that age is making him less effective and efficient. No shame in that…it happens to us all, it’s certainly happened to me.

And as for the Donald? I can’t see why on Earth the Republicans want to run him again. President Biden will very likely beat him, and for sure deserves to on their respective records. But it’s a real danger..I think…that the Republicans will run some one else. Maybe because they have to because his health collapses, or he loses a significant Court case.

Honestly most people in UK are surprised that a re-run of last Presidential election is probable.

I sort of think it's the just the way the current "American political soup" has turned up right now, a bit like how we Yanks are surprised that the Tories can have 4 straight Prime Ministers lose power, often in humiliating fashion, and still have no chance of another party taking it from them.

The root cause of the difference is how the US Presidency is its own separate election and that the Two Party system here effectively slaughters any type of outside alternative that can't beat the two front runners on what is now their home turf.

Generation X is in a weird place. Especially the late 70s, Gen X'ers.

Millenials and Gen Z seem to be a lot more vocal. Maybe it's the social media thing because it seems a good chunk of Gen X appears silent on a lot of issues while at the same time "aging" out of social media activity. Even in the movie industry, it's still very much the "Tom Cruise" generation (which includes guys like Brad Pitt and Keanu Reeves) that are still super relevant.

It's almost as if Gen X ended up being the quiet generation. Or maybe they are just worn down by the promises made by boomers that never exactly came to pass.

UK Prime Ministers are selected by party in control of the House of Commons, the Tories could lose another couple before the next General Election, and just appoint 2 more, as long as they control the Commons. But Labour are heavy favourites to win the next General Election, and assuming they do, will select the next PM.

It’s quite unlike the American set-up. I guess the nearest equivalent is what happens if a President has to be replaced mid way through a term…the next in line takes over, the public don’t have a chance to vote at that point.

Inflation was due to happen due to emerging from lockdown. The supply chain issues , mixed in with lack of employees in certain job areas and the rise of costs from some companies price gouging was gonna happen. If Donny was there you'd be saying what I just did and pounding your fist over it.

A President has no effect over fuel prices. Let me introduce you to reality that no Republican or Democrat can effect oil. A fact that some of you right wingers scream PIPE LINE like seals clapping , but even experts have said this would have little effect on fuel prices. Hell a lot of the fuel prices dropped over the fall-winter and where were you folks at ? Oh yeah...NOT GIVING A ****. Because its something you can cry about now.

Which is a problem that has existed for years. A fact that the best alternative would be to quickly do due process and check on immigrants fleeing a bad situation. To get them through courts etc and see if they can get citizenship. You could build 100 foot walls , put piranias in water etc ...but people will find a way to get across. A fact that we have seen tunnels built , people stow away in vehicles etc.
