The gun was not supposed to have been empty. The gun was supposed to have a blank in it. The only way Baldwin could have verified that the cartridge was a blank would have been to empty it, examine the cartridge, and re-load the gun, which he should not do. The armorer and the prop master are the only people who should load and examine the guns. The actor should be handed the weapon, play the scene, and hand it back.

Interestingly, the production company violated their filming permit, which stated that they would only use blanks and "simulated gunfire", which I take to mean a combo of non-firing guns with post production VFX and sound FX.

And yes, the gun should have been empty. Blanks only need to be there when they are filming the scene, and only should be there then, as blanks are themselves quite deadly. Also, no he didn't have to remove the round, it's very visible which is which if you look at the "bullet" end. If it's a blank, there is no bullet, and the end is crimped. You'd have to be blind to miss it. Just open the cylinder and look; you don't need to touch the round itself. And the armorer is a specialized property master, there would also be a regular property master who should not touch the gun. Only the armorer, his or her assistants, and the actor who needs it for the scene, and then only when actively shooting a scene. Rehearsals should never involved weapons loaded with anything.

There are also dummy rounds, which are used for scenes where the gun needs to appear loaded. Don't know if there was some confusion about those.

Something I just heard on Rachel Maddow, besides the fact that Republicans are holding up almost all of Biden's Ambassador's- because why should a Democratic president be able to appoint Ambassadors?

Apparently, thanks to our wonderful Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, the US Postal Service can no longer send mail to Australia.

I think that either someone didn't vet the armorer at all, or they didn't care. Either way....

On her first and only movie, she racked up multiple safety complaints I won't go into as there are a lot, but in one she pissed off Nicolas Cage by firing a gun unannounced right next to him, nearly deafening him. Whoever hired her must be very nervous right about now.

On this date in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, as well as 2020, “Fanatical Republican Extremist of the Day” posted its profiles of Virginia Foxx, the sitting U.S. House Representative for North Carolina’s 5th Congressional District, who has inspired the nickname from Capitol Hill staffers of “HIDE YER BISCUITS!” from her bizarre tendency to, even on a six figure salary, to wear large coats to buffets around Washington D.C. hosted by lobbyists, and stuff her pockets full of as much food as she can carry in them as if her salary does not provide her with enough cash to afford groceries, while maintaining the contradictory optics of trying to cut funding to the National School Lunch Program.

When Foxx was still a North Carolina State Senator, she proudly compared herself to legendary unapologetic segregationalist Jesse Helms, and upon arriving in Congress, became one of only 11 members of Congress to vote against Disaster Relief for victims of Hurricane Katrina, which is even more frustrating when you consider how often her home state gets hit with hurricanes. She referred to the AIG bank bailout by calling it a “tar baby” and then defended her remarks by saying she was unaware the term was a racial slur (but didn’t apologize).

Foxx is also a specialist at revising history to fit her own party’s policy stances, like how she tried claiming the death of Matthew Shepherd was not a hate crime, but just a robbery (and anyone who says otherwise is perpetuating a hoax)… or the time that she claimed Republicans passed the Civil Rights Act without much help from Democrats (when Democratic president LBJ passed it by getting bipartisan support from Northern Democrats and a contingent of Republicans)… or the time she claimed Jared Loughner, the shooter in the Tucson, AZ mass shootings was a “communist” and the “liberal of liberals”. Oh, and in 2016, Foxx gave a speech at the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s Road to Majority conference, where she exhibit’s an unhealthy desire to ignore the separation of church and state, saying, “If people of faith are not involved in political life, then you’re leaving it to the Philistines. And I’m not willing to leave it to the Philistines.”

During the Trump administration, Fox was noted not for any sort of achievement as a legislator, but because the old cross-eyed twit showed up to Trump’s executive order signings that f*** over the middle and lower class citizens of the country, practically giddy at the though of their suffering. When he has submitted legislation, it’s been utterly revolting towards anyone who isn’t loaded, like when she tried to pass a bill to allow corporations to collect genetic material from employees to look for medical conditions in their family history that would allow them to raise their insurance premiums based on the results. Seriously, what kind of f***ed up Gattaca plot point is that? And why is it that she’s still taken seriously when she’s trying to eliminate all federal education standards?

Virginia Foxx was re-elected in 2018 with 57% of the vote, and has resumed having one of the most conservative voting records in Congress:

At this point, we have to ask the people of North Carolina’s 5th District… WHY? Why do you vote for this woman? She has never shown a care for anyone other than the wealthiest people in the country. She doesn’t look out for your well being as much as her one lazy eye kind of falls on top of it every now and then. We understand that the Cook Partisan Voting Index gives North Carolina’s 5th District a +10 Republican lean, but we’re hoping maybe after redistricting, that number might come down a bit. As it stands, she currently is attacking the “Build Back Better” bill that is languishing in the Senate by complaining that none of the infrastructure plans in it will go toward building useless barriers on the U.S./Mexico border.

New Jersey Is the Best-Run State in America

It’s not a golden era for America’s state governments.

The governor of New York, regardless of who it is, only seems to exist to screw up in nationally humiliating ways. California’s leadership class is just getting around to dealing with the literally existential quandary of having too much housing for nature to sustain and not enough housing to sustain humanity. Blue states in the Midwest may be trying their best but are held back by gerrymandered-in Republican legislators whose only goal is the continuous reinvestigation of voter fraud that did not take place. Red states are, obviously, also laser-focused on pretend fraud, but not to the extent of ignoring other priorities like making sure no one learns about racism in high school or has to get vaccinated during a death wave. If states are supposed to be laboratories of democracy, then flames are shooting out of the beakers, alarm klaxons are bleating horribly, and the scientists are running back and forth screaming.
Not in New Jersey, though. New Jersey—the home of Thomas Edison’s laboratory, by the way, which is usually considered the greatest laboratory of all time—is getting things done.

The state is belittled, in general, for many fairly sound reasons, and its politics have historically been associated largely with the phrase “multiple-count indictment.” But it has in recent years become a model of how to run a government that can respond to the United States’ myriad problems, old and new.

Sure, but what if Taxes are your only issue?
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

Hey, the if the Dems in Congress ever manage to hike the tax rate on the wealthy and on Big Businesses, if SALT is reinstated, then the tax rates in NJ will go down. Until then, I can live with higher taxes.

Texas lawmaker says 850 books ranging from race to sexuality could cause 'discomfort'

A Texas Republican lawmaker has drawn up a list of 850 books on subjects ranging from racism to sexuality that could “make students feel discomfort,” and is demanding that school districts across the state report whether any are in their classrooms or libraries.

State Rep. Matt Krause, R-Fort Worth, also wants to know how many copies of each book the districts have and how much money they spent on them, according to a letter he sent Monday to Lily Laux, deputy commissioner of school programs at the Texas Education Agency, and several school district superintendents.

Krause, who chairs the state’s House Committee on General Investigating, also directed the districts to identify “any other books” that could cause students “guilt, anguish, or any other form of psychological distress because of their race or sex or convey that a student, by virtue of their race or sex, is inherently racist, sexist, or oppressive, whether consciously or unconsciously.”
What kind of wimpy kids do they have in Texas? Or at least what kind of Wimpy adults who make assumptions about their own kinds being as wimpy and weak as they are, do they have in Texas?

There's a reason I've had profiles of Matt Krause going back to 2016.

"Kids today are SUCH snowflakes," say conservative republicans as they try to ban books that might make a child 'uncomfortable'.

Well, in practically EVERY commercial I've seen for Qpublican gubernatorial candidate Jack Whatshisface (yes, Tami, we're getting those spots here in Philly), all he yammers about are taxes, as if New Jersey (along with the rest of country) still isn't dealing with the pandemic.
