Hypothetical or maybe not - two scenarios for your consideration

    1. House split 217 to 218 in favor of the Republicans giving them control but only by 1 seat.

    2. House split 217 to 218 in favor of the Democrats letting them keep control, though only by 1 seat.

Good? Bad? How would each scenario play how in your opinion?

A narrow Dem majority would force Pelosi (or her successor) to swallow their distaste and actually stop backhandedly smearing progressives and try listening to them.

A narrow GoP majority would result in a few months of havoc due to infighting, and the s;im possibility that a moderate might jump ship if his or her patriotism gets set off by vengeful committees seeking to create scandals, but that latter part would only happen as the second year draws close, if at all.

I never thought that was going to happen, despite all the bluster from right wingers. At the end of the day, they didn’t have the guts to risk jail as law enforcement wasn’t going to screw around with those idiots.

That first scenario would give the most moderate Republican in the House a lot of power. The second scenario would give similar power to the most conservative Democrat in the House. It would be similar to the power that Joe Manchin has had in the Senate.

To be honest I heard more about election day violence fears more on places like Cnn and left wing sites and channels.

Not that the left was going to do it. But the left really talked hard about the right committing it.

The Dem CCM won the Nevada Senate Race. Dems have 50 seats, if Warnock wins in GA they will have 51.

Democrats in New York lost ground this election season because the state party's leaders were "more focused on defeating the left than defeating the right," says New York state Assembly member-Zohran K Mamdani

Blame Andrew Coumo - the judges he appointed tossed out the Democrats gerrymandering (probably rightfully so) but instead of demanding a redo appointed a special master first thing, skipping directly from A to D.

Those Judges gave the GOP a net gain of at least 4 seats. In Southern GOP States, where judges ruled the gerrymandering was illegal they still allowed the district maps to be used. This Congress was a victory by the Courts more than the voters.

If Warnock wins (which I'm fairly confident about), that means the GOP did not swing a single senate seat.

    Remarkable.

Not only that, the Democrats would have Gained a seat, having flipped one of the Republican seats.

So much for that “Red Tsunami” which is looking more and more like minor street flooding for the GQP. The repeal of Roe played a big part as that pissed off lots of women over having lost the right to body autonomy while young people (18-25) made their voices heard as well in rejecting conservative policies. Will Qpublicans learn anything from their crash and burn this week? Hell no! If anything, they’ll double down on their bullshit for ‘24. Bet the mortgage on that.

And this can have a real importance in making Manchin irrelevant.

That’s a huge embarrassment. Even without all the MAGA madness, the midterms generally favor the party not in the White House. Add high gas prices, inflation, and Biden’s low approval ratings this should have been an easy win for the GOP. Trump is now an albatross around the neck of the party and if the GOP tries to shift control away from him it’ll be fun watching his temper tantrums burn it all down.

Trump plus the battle for adoption rights was enough to get democrats to the polls.

Elizabeth Warren: Democrats Just Held the Senate. Here’s What We Do Next.

President Biden presided over the best midterm elections for the party in the White House in 20 years — despite Washington insiders predicting that Democrats would be wiped out.

Donald Trump did his party no favors with his preening and support for downright awful candidates who lost. Nevertheless, this electoral success belongs to Mr. Biden, who ignored ivory-tower economists and out-of-touch pundits claiming that bold action to help families was bad politics. Instead, Mr. Biden delivered significant economic progress for working people.

Voters rewarded Democrats for protecting the lives and livelihoods of struggling families in a pandemic; modernizing infrastructure, not just talking about it; allowing Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices; capping insulin costs for older Americans; making tax-dodging corporations pay up on billions in profit; lowering carbon emissions and reducing utility bills; and canceling student debt for over 40 million Americans.
Democrats delivered a lot, but we can do more to make Americans’ lives better. A few lobbyist-friendly Democrats in our own party blocked much of the president’s agenda for working families. They torpedoed the president’s plan to reverse the Trump tax giveaways. They blocked proposals to cut skyrocketing housing and child care costs. They thwarted efforts to fight corruption, end gerrymandering, defend democracy and protect abortion rights. If these Democrats had listened to voters instead of special interests, we would be in an even stronger electoral position today because we would have delivered even more for Americans.
If Republicans take the House, their majority will be stacked with election deniers who have embraced one overriding goal: the restoration of Donald Trump as president in 2024. They believe economic chaos weakens President Biden, so they are itching to use their leverage to hurt working families. This is the same strategy Republicans used after the 2010 midterms when they set off a debt-ceiling crisis, then demanded family-crushing austerity.

Democrats should fight back by making this lame-duck session of Congress the most productive in decades. We can start by lifting the debt ceiling now to block Republicans from taking our economy hostage next year. Democrats must then continue delivering for families. Where we can pursue legislative action, we should fight aggressively. When Republicans try to obstruct such action and the president can act by executive authority, he must. Most of all, the Democrats should be aggressive in putting Republicans on the defensive, pressing hard on why they are blocking much-needed initiatives to help Americans.
Yas Elizabeth I see that Manchin/Sinema shade
