There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

Frankly, we used to have open borders, but we were so scared of other countries that we decided to clamp down on immigration and increased border security. The late 1800s barred Chinese immigrants from coming in, the 1910s saw increased scrutiny from anyone who was considered a socialist or an anarchist, and during the Red Scare, the fear of socialists sneaking in from Mexico shut down the lax border that allowed migrant workers to come in, do seasonal jobs, and return to Mexico without many complaints, leading to the surge in Hispanic populations as well as illegal immigration that probably would have just relied on just the migrant system instead of full-time residence (and other, deeper things that America played a role in, like the War on Drugs causing a rise of cartels and the destruction of traditional farming).
It is strange that so called progressives seem to over look the progress of history and changes in population and technology that no longer require the US to beg for labor and a population. As to being great those waves of immigrants that came before the two world wars still had america as an also ran nation. American Colossus by two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist H. W. At this point, it's sounding like we're five minutes away from seeing someone advocate we return to the economic model of slavery, since it was the most prosperous option.

They need to put recall reform on the next ballot.
Unless they want to let a small Republican minority try this anti-democratic trick at a price tag of $276 million every recall... yeah, they might want to amend the recall threshold.

That's probably because a lot of this feels like a tune up.

Glossing right over that a car without plates and swastikas painted in the side mirrors is legitimate probable cause nationwide to try to say that the search was actually about political paranoia?

Yeah, feels like an attempt to wind folks up.

That the two, the lack of plates and swastikas are lumped together is no different than pulling aside someone with a skull cap and a passport irregularity!?! is that about winding people up? Damn straight the hypocrisy should make people sit up and take notice. Don't want to hear it then leave or activate the echo chamber of blocking me and start reading things that don't upset you.

pulled that out nowhere. And no it wasn't the source of prosperity as the gold rush of '49 contributed more to the US economy. Some book reading, you will find, goes a long way to dispelling shibboleths.

    For starters...

Unless you have some sort of conclusive proof that someone else painted those swastikas on the side mirrors?

    Nobody "Lumped..." anything together.

It was a vehicle that would have been stopped and searched anyway(no plates...) that cemented probable cause by having swastikas painted in the side view mirrors.

Legitimate cause for a stop and a search.

End of discussion. No real need for trying to make it appear even remotely garden variety by tossing something else in there.

Again, skipping the obvious in an attempt to prop up that it could be some completely nonsensical "Actual..." reason.

Again, feel light on legitimacy and heavy on the wind up.

You are going to have to back that up, considering that slaves of the South produced 60% of the worlds cotton.

I have seen figures from 5% to 50% on slavery and the GDP, while the best estimate for the '49 Gold Rush is 1.8%

Gold rushes only tend to enrich a few, often those who are already wealthy to begin with. The number of miners who became rich from the Alaskan Gold rush can be counted on one hand - the better way to make a killing was to open a business and rip off the miners. It's what a certain German immigrant turned hotel magnate did.

Will we be seeing you at the Sept 18th rally? Should we keep our eyes open for the next batch of FBI wanted images?

Okay, put down your thesaurus and pick up a history book.

Speaking of conservatives with selective vision, a conservative watchdog group (that's a laugh in an of itself) filed an ethics complaint against AOC for attending the Met Gala. Of course, they said nothing of any of the other members of Congress that attended (there was a least one other- Rep Carolyn Maloney.
