Just throwing this out as something I heard on the news. There was a discussion about QAnon and the talk was that QAnon was dying out, but that something even worse was likely to take its place. This based on reporting by someone who has been studying this up close for a long time.

So, who knows what's going to happen next? Nearly 1/3 of the country's population are either hooked on dangerous conspiracy theories or who idolize Hitler or who either are paranoid enough to think that the government is out to get them, or crazy enough to think that the world would be better if the government was destroyed and replaced by the Confederacy 2.0.

In a recent poll, only 4 percent of Trump supporters are in favor of QAnon.

Yeah, four percent is too much, but it does suggest that there's a limited constituency for that approach.

My deepest hope is that NY finds something that dumps him in prison for at least four years. My fear is that they won't find anything actionable (or worse, that SDNY bungles the case, effectively immunizing him from prosecution), and we discover that he's only been so maniacally secretive to prevent people from realizing how false his pretensions of wealth really were.

I have a feeling that his taxes definitely won’t be the smoking gun that people are hoping for. They’ll show that he did not pay his fare share of taxes but his cult will only deify him further because not paying taxes is patriotic. His cult won’t care because he “wrote” The Art of the Deal. That proves he’s a financial and business genius.

Where his taxes can do him in is if he declared a property as having little value or losing money, but then inflated the value to get a loan or investments, that is a felony.

Trump's racism and white supremacy is a potent enough ideology that billionaire GOP backers are likely to pool their funds and provide some of the socialism-of-the-rich for Trump and pay his taxes and fines on his behalf.

The GOP might decide that Trump is a viable enough candidate for their backers to take that hit.

There is a statute of limitations of ten years for mortgage fraud (up from five years as the result of a 2009 law) so it would need to be something he did recently to be prosecuted.

Trump had only been president for four years, I doubt that he cleaned up his act for the six years prior to that. I would not be surprised if he continued to do that even as President or at least had his kids do it for him.

I'm having a hard time believing greedy ass GQP sugar daddies would put their money on the line for a loose cannon/rich guy wannabe like Trump, especially if there's no assurance he could win in 2024. Hell, Trump got some 12 million more votes in 2020 than he had in 2016, plus had thumbs on the scales (i.e. Louis DeJoy at the USPS screwing up things with mail in votes) and that STILL wasn't enough to help Trump win a second term. I don't see risk adverse right wing backers taking that sort of chance, oh, yeah, there were some backers who walked away after the election, having had their fill of Trump and the madness he brought to the table, especially in the aftermath of the 1/6 riot.

He's a useful idiot who goes along with the the economic agenda of the donor class such as tax cuts for the rich and subverting the judicial system by putting people approved by the Federalist Society to the bench. They really don't care about the havoc he has created since it doesn't effect them.

But how accurate is that "4 percent"?

It means 4 percent of those polled admitted to that, but how big was the sample? How encompassing was it?

Remember, political polls were practically useless back in 2016 in terms of gauging how likely a Trump victory was.

And you would be correct. I've always been of the belief Trump, for all his tough guy bluster, doesn't have the balls to kill someone. Hell, it wouldn't surprise me if he gets sick at the sight of blood and never held anything more dangerous than a steak knife. But, all the other commandments? He absolutely broke them!

How many people did Trump kill via drone strike? I know he took out that Iranian general. Genuinely curious, because I remember a lot of news stories about drone strikes/assassinations during the Obama years. I don't recall seeing many stories like that during the last four years (granted, the last four years of news has been a colossal shitshow).
