    In tangible, reality-based reporting news...

Rolling Stone magazine is reporting that two of the Jan. 6th "Stop the Steal" planners who have been cooperating with the Jan. 6th Select Committee's investigation are naming members of Congress who specifically aided plans to have people storm the building to stop the counting of electoral votes. These names are not new, early reporting indicated they were involved in planning the attack, but among those listed:

    • Former North Carolina Congressman Mark Meadows (was serving as White House Chief of Staff
    • North Carolina Congressman Madison Cawthorn (who is Meadows' protoge)
    • Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor-Greene and her staff
    • Arizona Congressman Paul Gosar
    • Paul Gosar's Chief of Staff, Thomas Van Flein
    • Arizona Congressman Andy Biggs
    • Colorado Congresswoman Lauren Boebert
    • Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert

House leadership, particularly Kevin McCarthy, are not believed to have known about this in advance. The named Seditionists are mostly first-termers and a legendary loons like Gohmert. In the few hours and days post 1/6, McCarthy, always slow to the punch, learned his people did attempt to send a violent mob into the building, and he’s closed ranks and been trying to keep this from getting out. But sooner or later, as in right about this week but definitely before the mid-terms... the bill would still come due.

    Big takeaways:
At least 7 Republican members of Congress knew the attack was coming, and either did nothing or potentially aided the attackers.
Kevin McCarthy and the rest of the GOP have been participating in a coverup to hide their party members' culpability.

The power which is derived cannot be greater than that from which it is derived. Undermining elections undermines the derivation of the law. The founding fathers used the same argument in their declaration.
It's used in regards to things like segregation and institutional discrimination.

Not losing an election fair and square.

    This can get messy.

Children may have different religious beliefs than their parents.

We also want people to be able to move, which is complicated if the main option for a public school is one that disparages the faith of the parents.

BTW, I'm just guessing from his name that Josh Mandel is Jewish. So, as a conservative, he ought to know what it's like to be the one Jew in a group of Christians. So for him to be in favor of something like this seems the height if hypocrisy.
It's pretty easy to confirm his Jewish identity by googling "Josh Mandel" and "Jewish."

Especially on the right, there is an argument that the country was built on judeo-christian values, as a way to widen the tent. So it's not necessarily hypocritical for a Jewish politician to go with that argument.

I don't think there's anywhere close to sufficient evidence that the majority of Americans are on Trump's side. Trump got under 47 percent, and we can assume the segment of Americans who can't vote (felons, minor, recent immigrants) is less likely to support him than the typical voter.

The reality is that the left will complain about elections their side loses (the 2016 presidential election, the 2000 presidential election, Stacey Abrams' showing in the 2018 Georgia gubernatorial election) and the right will complain about elections their side loses.
    Sincerely,

Huge difference here. The Left will bitch yea. But they wont make fake claims of fraud and keep doing that for years. They wont use that as an excuse to pass BS voter restriction laws. And they damn sure wont send their cult and Thugs to attack the capital and stop the election from being certified. This is not a "Well both sides are sore losers." Issue and to even hint that both sides are the same when it comes to losing an election is foolish beyond words. The GOP Cult is proving that every day.

The difference is that, in those elections, there was legitimate foul play, either in favor of Republicans or by them.

And yet, Democrats didn't attack our country. We didn't pass restrictive voting laws. And we don't lie about what happened, constantly.

But then, Republicans don't seem to understand that their perceived persecution isn't the same as actual persecution

that rolling stone article needs to be more publicized. expose all the GOP officials involved and expel them and their staff! bring them up on criminal charges. This needs to be looked at seriously by the Committee and the Dept. of Justice. The DOJ can't play around with this. Additionally, Democrats currently in office can't be scared that "swing voters" (read: conservative white people) and the Trump-GOP base (read: even more arch-conservative white people) are going to raise a fuss, start protesting, pledge to vote against Democrats for "being mean spirited", etc. This is nothing less than forcing a reckoning on respecting the core tenets of democracy (small d) or just respecting authoritarianism.

Anyone who can claim that a candidate being both the referee and a contestant in the same election isn't a recipe for bias isn't worth being taken seriously.

The left will go for policy changes that may be unwise.

I think this is typically done in good faith. For example in Virginia the race has tightened, and Fairfax County officials (the Board of Supervisors has nine Republicans and one Democrat) have decided to change the regulations about requiring absentee ballots to include the last four digits of someone's social security number.

    https://wtop.com/fairfax-county/2021...lection-rules/

I don't think they're doing this to make cheating easier, and the impact is likely to be minimal. But it seems sketchy to change policy quietly this close to an election, and it may be the type of thing someone can take advantage of in the future.

I don't know how the left would have reacted if the election had gone a little differently and Trump had narrowly won Georgia, Arizona and Wisconsin. Nor am I confident that you guys would accept a narrow (or even not so narrow) loss in 2024. There is a change in polarization.

You would think there was foul play and they were telling the truth.

An argument after January 6 is that standard political puffery does not apply to elections, and I can understand that argument, but it is not consistently applied.

It's certainly a recipe for bias.

It is also the law of the land. This is something that should be adjudicated prior to the election.

Democrats in good standing were elected to the position of secretary of state in the past, and gone on to notable careers in other statewide offices including in Georgia with Senator Max Cleland, who later served in the Obama administration.

When looking at the power of elected officials, the question of whether someone should be a referee and contestant neglects that it's a problem if we have elected officials with the same level of power, but who are using it on behalf of their political allies. That would be just as bad, and something we should eliminate.

A concern I have is that some preferred policy changes on elections create a veneer of respectability without solving the underlying problem (another example is the push for independent redistricting commissions that do not state the criteria for new districts.)
    Sincerely,
    Thomas Mets

The especially damning thing in that article for Paul Gosar was that he was promising Trump pardons to a lot of people (that never came).

Kind of indicates they know they were engaging in criminal activity or people who already had engaged in criminal activity if they were openly discussing that.

On this date in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, as well as 2020, “Fanatical Republican Extremist of the Day" posted profiles of Lawrence Lockman, a member of the Maine House of Representatives since 2013, who spent most of the 1980s forming an anti-government militia group that called for the dissolution of the IRS, even once dressing up as Dracula outside of a local IRS office to protest their presence, eventually instead focusing his attentions to spreading misinformation about the AIDS virus publicly (he liked to warn people you could catch it from toilet seats), and using it as a part of the public consciousness to demonize the gay community whenever possible,. In the 1990s, Lockman was claiming that tolerance of gays was leading to a point where children would be “indoctrinated” as homosexuals in schools. The disgusting opinions Lockman holds know no bounds, and he freely provided them in opinion editorials in Maine newspapers, including one where he expressed his humble opinion that “If a woman has (the right to abortion), why shouldn’t a man be free to use his superior strength to force himself on a woman? At least the rapist’s pursuit of sexual freedom doesn’t (in most cases) result in anyone’s death.” Yes, he’s that terrible, and after laying low from 2000-2012, he reappeared to run for the Maine House of Representatives, winning office for the first time in 2012, before anyone really did much digging into his past to learn how extreme he truly is. Lockman’s name turns up every now and then in the local Maine papers, as one of the few people who tries to spin the ramblings of insane Governor Paul LePage and argue as to why LePage shouldn’t be impeached. By no means has Lockman ever apologized for his previous controversies, or learned his lesson. He became fervently anti-immigrant during the Trump administration, and when he got a speaking engagement at Portland State University in February of 2017, he got hundreds of protesters to show up and cuss him out. Hell, it was only a few months ago back in March of 2017 that he wrote yet another opinion editorial in the Bangor Daily News where he raged against illegal immigrants in Maine, inflating the statistical number of illegal immigrants in their state from the actual less than 1,000 there to “over 5,000” an falsely claiming that they receive welfare benefits and whining about how that money (that isn’t being given to them) would be better given to our veterans while blaming “liberals” for it. Lockman also drafted legislation that would shield politicians from being investigated or prosecuted for their political views, including (but not limited to) climate change denialism… because THAT totally is a form of bigotry in this country. But if there were any doubt of whether or not Lockman is racist, look no further than a mass e-mail he sent out in January of 2018 where he claimed that immigrant welcome centers are a part of “the Left’s War on Whites”. Fit this man for a robe and pointy hat, ladies and gentlemen. Lawrence Lockman attempted to move into the Maine State Senate this fall in District 8 of that body in 2020… and he was defeated in the Republican Primary by 52 votes. That’s right, after 8 years of polluting the state legislature… Lawrence Lockman got booted out of office as of Dec. 2nd, 2020. As he is now out of office, we will set aside his profile at this time, however, to cover another wacky Republican today instead. (Current crazy/stupid scoreboard, is now 1038-50, since this was established in July 2014.

    David Schuster

Welcome to what is the 1038th original profile here at “Fanatical Republican Extremist of the Day”, where we’ll be profiling David Schuster, an owner and operator of a crane company who felt that made him a solid candidate for U.S. Senate in Tennessee in the 2020 elections. Yes, he is the latest in our really, really long line of Republican Congressional candidates from 2020 who were promoting the Qanon conspiracy theory, but David Schuster was one of the first in line.

As early as 2017, Schuster was down the proverbial rabbit hole of Qanon, posting a video he found on Youtube onto his Facebook that was titled “Did President Trump Endorse Q Info on Secret Indictments of Pedophile Network. He clearly had no regrets about that, not just because he confirmed his support in a Youtube video of his own in May of 2020, but because he somehow managed to throw the Qanon slogan onto the survey he filled out with Ballotpedia to promote himself as a potential Senator. He also made it a point to mention he was struck by lightning in 1996 and lived to tell the tale, and we’ll admit, that’s the first time we’ve heard of a prospective politician making such a boast. That’s… probably the only positive thing we can say about his answers on that survey. Otherwise, he sounded… incoherent, and definitely in over his head.

David Schuster finished tenth out of fifteen Republicans who were vying for the nomination for this Senate seat in the GOP Primary. We’re honestly surprised he got up to 0.3% of the vote, because… well, he’s clearly disassociated from reality.

I'm seeing a lot of people suggesting CNN isn't covering the Rolling Stone report. AT&T was recently revealed as being behind One America News Network. AT&T also owns CNN.

Not sure how true the 'CNN is burying this report' is, but AT&T is definitely heavily involved in OANN.

Things that make you go "Hmmmmmmm!" Definitely a story worth keeping an eye on. By the by, AT&T is my wireless carrier, but after I found out about their involvement with OAN, that brought me to decision to take my business elsewhere.
