Like, conservatives in this thread have now unironically delivered the Onion's 'no way to prevent this' multiple times.

UVALDE, TX—In the hours following a violent rampage in Texas in which a lone attacker killed at least 21 individuals and injured several others, citizens living in the only country where this kind of mass killing routinely occurs reportedly concluded Tuesday that there was no way to prevent the massacre from taking place. “This was a terrible tragedy, but sometimes these things just happen and there’s nothing anyone can do to stop them,” said Idaho resident Kathy Miller, echoing sentiments expressed by tens of millions of individuals who reside in a nation where over half of the world’s deadliest mass shootings have occurred in the past 50 years and whose citizens are 20 times more likely to die of gun violence than those of other developed nations. “It’s a shame, but what can we do? There really wasn’t anything that was going to keep this individual from snapping and killing a lot of people if that’s what they really wanted.” At press time, residents of the only economically advanced nation in the world where roughly two mass shootings have occurred every month for the past eight years were referring to themselves and their situation as “helpless.”

So, basically on this board, the Dems are the white knight crusaders who look out for their fellow man and are honest. Yeah right. Trust me, they take backroom deals have loopholes and shell companies for tax purposes and take the money and donors when it's convenient for them as well. Both parties are guilty of this.

While I don't have much in the way of use for a "Business As Usual..." Democrat...

You know what they really don't do?

Say that it is in bad taste to so much as discuss finally getting serious about gun laws when the...

    - Hundredth
    - Two Hundredth
    - Three Hundredth

Kid will never grow up because someone gunned them down.

    So, totally serious?

    Spare folks the nonsense.

Well, truth is that lot of people enroll in things like Police and Military just for the uniform and the pay. Never expecting to do any fighting or to be in a dangerous situation.

Or they think they can deal with that. You can dress a dude with a shiny uniform and teach him a thing or two about how to fight or shoot, that's not going to make him a courageous person.

And to be fair, you don't really know that about yoursef till you faced a real situation.

Yeah, you got us. Totally what we're saying. This 'both sides!' nonsense is just a means by which you exculpate the GOP.

Men and women who go into law enforcement are trained to face situations like what happened in Ulvade. If after said training, they still froze (while a perfectly natural reaction, I won't deny that) when the time came for action, then perhaps they should reassess the profession they chose.

One thing I think CAN be done is to close the loopholes to the domestic violence laws that should be keeping guns out of the hands of the people most likely to use them to commit violence. A bit shy of 2 out of 3 mass shooters have domestic violence in their pasts, and that doesn't count how many murders (and murder/suicides) that don't qualify as mass shootings are committed. Closing the loopholes to an existing law is easier politically than passing a new one, and Democrats could tar and feather Republicans for defending wife beaters and child abusers for standing against closing those loopholes.

I doubt it will prevent the full 2 out of 3 mass shootings, but even if it only prevents 1 out of 3 it's still worthwhile.

Cops don't mind shooting an unarmed person, especially black person, and then claim they did it out of fear for their lives. But they don't rush into danger towards an armed shooter?

Uvalde Had Prepared for School Shootings. It Did Not Stop the Rampage.

In August 2020, law enforcement officers from five agencies converged inside the hallways of a school in Uvalde, Texas, their guns drawn, role-playing how they would halt a gunman.

The training, detailed in documents reviewed by The New York Times, was part of an overhaul of security preparedness in Uvalde — and across much of Texas. Uvalde school officials were doubling their budget for security, updating protocols and adding officers to the district’s Police Department. And the city’s separate police force dispatched its SWAT team, in tactical gear, to learn the layout of school buildings.

But none of the extensive preparations halted the rampage of an 18-year-old gunman who entered a Uvalde elementary school this week and killed 19 children and two teachers. Family members who had rushed to the scene said they pleaded with officers, who were assembling outside the school, to enter the building.
Nationally, 19 percent of elementary school students, 45 percent of middle schoolers and 67 percent of high school students attend a school with a campus police officer, according to a 2018 report from the Urban Institute.

Still, there is little evidence nationally that the dollars poured into school security measures have decreased gun violence in schools, according to a 2019 study co-written by Jagdish Khubchandani, a professor of public health at New Mexico State University.

“These security measures are not effective,” Dr. Khubchandani said this week. “And they are not catching up to the ease of access with which people are acquiring guns in the pandemic.”
I mean every tidbit of information we get from the local law enforcement is looking like they are a total waste of money. And the actual evidence is showing GOP policies to be trash. Arming the teachers on top of wasting all this money on drills and weapons and training for police to not do their jobs?

Police primary job is to stop bad guys. And they took their sweet time here. Teachers primary job is to teach. Not engage enemy combatants that the actual police don't want to

I love the both sides talk. It is crazy. Boo Hoo no one says a bad word on the Democrats but they keep picking on the poor innocent GOP.

We have on this board many times called out Biden during the course of his term for things we dont like. Not one person says the Democrats are angels. But why dont we do just a quick look at the two parties.

One forgives and calls the terrorists of the 6th heroes. They also block a domestic terrorism bill.

After a madman invades a free nation and his soldiers are committing war crimes the GOP orange God calls his brilliant and a great statesmen.

The big Orange God refused to call out White Supremacy as a problem, time and time again did not condemn hate groups. And in fact told the Proud Boys to stand by and get ready. Meanwhile after Buffalo Bidden made it very clear that Hate and racism are a cancer in this country.

While some of the Anti gun talk is a bit extreme and unreasonable, one group shoots down any talk, any law related to any gun reform or gun control.

Their answer to 19 children being killed is "Hey its Merica. It happens." "We need more guns not less." "Its a mental Health problem. But we wont do anything about that either." Oh and also screaming "The Mexicans are killing our children."

One group actively uses the nut job talking point of the Big Lie and Stolen election to pass laws that are aimed at taking voting rights away.

They actively support laws that take away women's right to choose what is best for her. Oh and that female nut job talking about how Washington DC is powered by dead fetuses. And she is taken seriously by members of the GOP.

They support and pass laws that make the parents of Trans Children live in fear because they can have their children taken away for seeking medical care.

After 10 people are gunned down in Buffalo because of the color of their skin we are still hearing "False Flags, We dont know the motive, people are rushing to judgement." While many in the party still court the support and love of White Hate Groups and refuse to admit racism is an issue in this country.

So please tell me some of the good things the GOP has done and what the Democrats have done that is any where one this level?

Do not give that both sides ****. Are the Democrat perfect? Nope. Compared to the GOP who does all of the above and more they look like Saints.

I didnt eve touch on the Covid issues. But lets.

We had a president that downplayed on purpose how bad the virus is even as people are getting infected and dying.

Spread misinformation on the virus, and vaccine. Fought every mandate because going to Walmart with a mask is the biggest Civil rights violation since The Back Of The Bus.

And the My Body My Choice crowd have no problems as stated above taking that choice away from woman or the parents of Transgender kids. because you know, God and Merican Values.

The party of free speech and I hate Cancel Culture going on a rampage on what can be taught in schools, and are banning books. because "Wont someone please think of the Children. I am fine with them being shot in school because these things happen. But ill be damned if they can learn about gays and Slavery!"

The truth is that movies have distorted a lot of people’s views about how police really operate.

A lot of people (police or not) struggle to engage another armed individual regardless of whether they themselves are armed. Even on the battlefield, I think it’s been said that most soldiers don’t actually fire a single shot. A lot of people armed with weapons tend to engage the unarmed and use deadly force (like how police apply lethal force to situations that don’t really call for it) against people that can’t really fight back.

That’s why the whole “good guy with a gun” is just a fabrication based on Hollywood action movies. This is the second time we’ve heard law enforcement simply being unable to quickly take down an armed and dangerous suspect in a school shooting.
