No this is WHY socialism is becoming popular. This pandemic proved that this economy both NEEDS and exploits the hell out of its workers and even in supposedly one of the greatest periods of economic growth ever, it wasn’t prepared to withstand something like this without hitting depression levels. It’s a sham. Even the healthcare system. In an environment where hospitals are busier than ever, they are laying people off and tightening their budgets.... because they can’t do elective surgerys.

Imagine how different the world would be if the Business Plot had actually amounted to jail time and treason charges for Ford, Bush and the other conspirators? If they had actually been held accountable for plotting a treasonous coup to install a fascist dictatorship in ‘33, instead of being allowed to buy their way out of trouble? I mean...I know that there are still some who say it was a hoax, but looking at politics today, you SERIOUSLY think it’s outlandish that business owners with financial ties to an enemy state WOULDNT want to overthrow/get rid of a president who was ‘standing in their way’? Capitalism has ALWAYS been corrupt at its core, we’re just becoming more aware of it under the Trump regime as a natural end result.

But seriously, imagine it: Operation Paperclip May never have happened, thus removing THAT influx of fascist thought from infecting the American Right wing. The right wing in America would thus probably much less fascist (or at least, less blatantly so), and might actually be ‘conservative’. The left wing wouldn’t be so defeated about everything before it even happens and might actually be confident enough to be able to accomplish occasional progressive movement without falling back in the face of minor resistance, fracturing to purity tests and infighting, and falling for the manipulations of obvious agent provocateurs. We likely wouldn’t have had two Bush presidencies, nor would we have gotten the puppet president, Reagan. Dick Cheney would likely have never become Palpatine...

This really is the worst possible timeline not involving literal zombies...

It's more than that. It shows how narrow minded and inflexible he is. The common convention was that, as long as the economy was good he'd be able to get reelected. So much so that Trump can not see that massive numbers of deaths across the country will also affect his chances if being reelected.

He's like the guy who is used to cooking on a gas stove, placing a pot of water over the heating element and turning on the switch, then staring at it screaming 'why isn't the water boiling!' Then, when someone comes and explains that it's an electric stove and you have to plug it in first, he ignores them and keeps yelling as if to change reality.

When confronted by something unexpected, he tries to ignore it or act like it's something he does understand. I hate to suggest it, but it sounds almost Autistic.

It's not a biological issue, it's just he's old and unwilling to change. It's the same with all the investigations that had been carried out while he was president.

He doesn't understand that he doesn't have absolute power, and he has no idea how to handle institutional power, being on either side of it.

His entire life, money has insulated him from consequences. After several decades of that, why would we expect him ti change now?
