Simple, because people in upper income brackets traditionally vote Republican, but they in particular having been put off by his xenophobia, which showed a loss in his support with this voting group in 2018.

The political center is always the bigger loser during economic downturns, when the rot sets in, political radicalism prevails.

White men typically vote Republican. All around.

They do now, but at one point in time a large proportion voted Democrat. Those were the days when your country still had strong union representation. The Republicans new exactly what they were doing when they demolished the unions.

I'm not going to argue that, but the reason they were succesfull has much to do with racism. Even when they were at their strongest, America's corporate culture has always been *deeply* hostile to Unions, as a single read through of Union history in the USA will show you.

But the reality is that most of the reasons Unions have been harmed is because of who they had to be shared with, which is also the story of American socialism writ large.

Edit: I also want to note that the reason 'they do now' has nothing to do with economics and *everything* to do with racism. A political realignment that aligned the white, 'solid south' with the Republcian party reverberated with white communities throughout the country.

    Exactly this.

As per the racism, racism in the US has little to do with economics.

Right from "manifest destiny" through to "segregation", it's just pure hatred. That's why there isn't a "boom and bust" cycle with racism, it's always been there and never really goes away.

Minorities have screamed about this for centuries but until very recently no one really listened to them because the US has been shaped by white supremacy. From the KKK to radical terror groups, the US has always had a problem with white supremacist terror. It's something the media has done a piss poor job of reporting (like the classic case of the Columbine shooters or idiots like Timothy McVeigh) and still permeates a lot of people's thoughts because it's been passed down through generations.

Racism in the US has more to do with mindsets and attitudes than anything else and it cuts across all economic classes.

Barry County Sheriff Dar Leaf on the kidnapping plot:
“It’s just a charge. Are they trying to kidnap? Because a lot of people are angry with the governor and they want her arrested. So are they trying to arrest or was it a kidnap attempt?”
I mean, seriously? That's the kind of thing that if you say this aloud you should probably lose your job or at the very least be seriously censured.

Economics and poverty doesn't cause racism but it is a powerful tool used to either recruit or enhance racism.

Sheriff's departments are frequently *extremely* right-wing. There's a reason you hear a lot of noise about Sheriffs refusing to obey gun control measures and so on.

Pretty much this. Economics isn't the root cause of the dumpster fire, but it can be considered an accelerant.

Racism is America's biggest pre-existing condition.

And why they’re supporting Trump like police unions who want free rein to bully, subjugate and otherwise play judge, jury and, in some cases, executioner when it comes to people of color.

It does strike me as remarkable that former Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder literally poisoned the water supply in Flint, and no radical left people tried to kidnap him and put him on trial for it. They let the process play out politically and legally, even as Snyder had his own appointed stooge do the investigation into himself.

Meanwhile, a bunch of Y'all Qaeda jackasses get in a rage at Gov. Gretchen Whitmer because they can't go to Dave & Buster's without a mask on. Which, y'know, would stop them from catching a potentially fatal virus.

I keep illustrating that both sides are not the same, but goddamn if it's not incredibly easy to see right now.

President Donald Trump called basketball star LeBron James a 'hater' hours before the basketball star was set to suit up for Game 5 of the NBA playoffs

'I don't even know who's playing in the finals,' he said, on the night of a Game 5 of the series between James' Lakers and the Miami Heat.

'I don't know anybody that's watching the NBA'

'LeBron is a spokesman for the Democratic party and a very nasty spokesman,' Trump said, tacking on one of his favorite insults: 'I don't know him, I never met him.'

'Because, again, I've done so much for the Black community and people don't wanna see that and he's a great basketball player but people don't wanna see a guy that way. They don't want to see that. We have enough difficulty during the week, you don't wanna sit down watching a basketball game and then watch somebody that hates your guts, okay, He's a hater.'

Why does Trump keep using insults that are more for teenagers trying to bully other teenagers? hater, mosnter, Ugly, Nasty. The only reason why he has not called anyone yet a sea-money or a butt-mokey is because he will land himself in some racist hot water that wont get cold this time.

People should have figured him out back then when he was feuding with Rosie O'Donnell and calling her a fat pig.

I don't care if you are a democrat or republican, 74 year old men with a teenage high school attack mindset has no business been president. America is just a disgrace under Trump.
