Lol, I knew someone would try to bring up famously transphobic ‘journalist’ Jesse Singal.

Jesse Singal has been concern trolling and lying about trans issues for actual years. Anyone still indulging the Huge Spike In Transgender People is just ridiculous at this point and Singal has been relentlessly wrong for actual years.

And they were Senators and Congress reps, not anonymous internet comments.

There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

DeSantis won’t make the same mistake Christie had, bet the mortgage on that. If Biden were to come to Florida with a symbolic check, he’ll throw his lieutenant governor to the wolves while claiming he’s too busy visiting areas hit hard by the hurricane to bother with a meet and greet. DeSantis is a supreme cretin and would have no problem blowing off the president because he doesn’t want to risk his standing in the GQP if he were to make nice-nice with Biden.

That would be just as bad but for different reasons. No matter what he does, it's going to be spun nine ways to nowhere by allies and enemies alike as being weak or cowardly or arrogant or, well, you get the idea.

I think that you're absolutely right about DeSantis , he's not going to meet with Biden for sure. He's not going to risk his possible chance in 2024 even though his state got hit with a hurricane. He's the same guy who just a week ago sent about 50 migrants to Martha's Vineyard without telling anyone in advance.

And now for something completely different.

2nd grader kicked out of Christian school after parents refused to photograph her in the bathtub

In Jacksonville, FL, a second-grader was expelled from a Christian day school after her parents refused to take a picture of her in a bathtub.

School officials at Victory Christian Academy told the 8 year-old’s mother, Misty Dunham, that since she declined to take the photo of her daughter, part of a homework assignment that included instructions to “send picture of you doing reading homework in bathtub,” the child would be subject to “an administration withdraw.”

Mom Misty Dunham and her husband Christopher were shocked at the request.

“I emailed the teacher,” Misty Dunham told Action News Jax, “‘Hey, you may want to explain that. Send something out to the parents. Let them know what the intentions are.’ This just does not sound OK.”

“She did send out a message,” Dunham recalled, “saying, ‘you should be in pajamas, be in your uniform, have fun with it.’ But, it didn’t sit right.”

Misty Dunham sent the homework sheet back, initialing all of the assignments with a note for Tuesday’s instructions: “So, McKenzie will not be taking pictures in the bathtub. We do not condone taking pictures in the bathroom.”

The 2nd grader’s teacher, Irene Castaneda, emailed Dunham explaining, “We have been sending this homework assignment home for years, and you’re the only one complaining about it. Just cover your child in pillows or pajamas then.”

Dunham said she spoke with other parents about the request and was met with the same solution: “’Just cover your child up with something.’”

After the Dunhams reached out to school administrators and didn’t receive a satisfactory response, they turned to the local sheriff and filed a report. An officer advised them to not complete the assignment.

Days later, the school did finally reach out: An administrator urged the parents to remove their daughter from the school.

The school official told Misty Dunham, “‘I think you guys should do a parental withdrawal for the child.’ I said, ‘I can’t. I can’t do that. We refuse to withdraw her.’ He said, ‘OK thank you for saying that,’ and continued on saying that, ‘Well, we’re going to proceed with an administration withdraw.’”

    The Dunham’s daughter was expelled.

After news reports exposed the bathtub homework and fallout, Victory Christian removed the assignment from the school’s second grade curriculum, with an explanation from Pastor Jesse Latta:

“While the assignment was completely innocent, out of an abundance of caution and for there to be no misunderstandings, our administration has removed this particular assignment for any future use. We value our children and their safety is our top priority. We will continue to serve the children and families in which the Lord has graciously allowed us to have a part in their lives.”

I mean... the assignment was stupid enough on multiple levels. But expelling a kid over it? REALLY?!

Remember, a lot of these 'Christian' schools aren't about education. Instead, they're about cultivating and instilling obedience to authority.

I didn't say it was ok.
But there is also a reason why people say never to read the comments section. The fact that there are horrible things in the comments section is hardly newsworthy.

Reminder that Chris Christie coached Trump on how to trigger Biden's stutter during one of the debates.

In other news, elections in Brazil today. Let's hope Bolsonaro will accept the expected defeat at the polls, and not pull a Trump.

With Credit Suisse, one of the biggest investment banks in the world is facing bankruptcy. The Financial Stability Board considers it to be a systemically important bank, so I guess tax payers will have to bail it out.

    Liz Truss is making history.

The Opinium poll showed 55% of voters disapprove of the new prime minister and just 18% approve, which is worse than Boris Johnson's final days in office.

Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng is no more popular after the pair doubled down on economic policies announced last week, with 55% also disapproving of him and 27% approving.

Labour has seen yet another boost with the party setting a 19-point lead, according to the new Opinium poll.
Putting a Reagonomics fanatic in power during a time that requires, well, a kind of socialism is certainly fascinating from an academic viewpoint, but I am worried about all the people in the UK affected by this.

    This is something:

And 75% of all voters think the government has lost control of the economy, with 71% of Tory voters thinking the same versus just 24% of Tories who think they are in control.

Yeah, won't disagree that Republican politicians and many of their voter base are hypocritical when it comes to Federal aid. Just also agreeing with the guy who said some people (not all Democratic politicians or Democratic voters, but some Huffpo commenters) were shitbags for being gleeful at the misery of others because they disagreed with them politically. We can see both as wrong, call out both without undermining our political beliefs just because a small minority of internet trolls also happen to vote straight-ticket D and we'd like to disassociate ourselves from some of their behavior, and not resort to whataboutism when it's pointed out some on the left (again, a very small amount in this case) are bad actors and then bringing up things Republicans do.

Also, it's Huffpo. They're the online version of a tabloid. Only go to the comments if you're looking for amusement, because (like most comments sections) you're going to see the worst in humanity struggling to gain attention by being outrageous anonymously.

Perhaps, but I can see DeSantis not caring what anyone thinks. He saw what happened with Christie and won't repeat that blunder, even if he's seen as being boorish for not meeting with Biden.

And, I read somewhere that he was planning to send migrants to Biden's home state of Delaware.

According to the NYT, the three most frequently threatened members of Congress, you’ll be shocked to hear, are Nancy Pelosi, Ilhan Omar, and AOC.
