There would be a power fight, the party would split, then it might reform around one of them, but that one would end up losing badly since no one of them can replicate what Trump did. Trump spent most of his life building a power base, making unsavory connections (including Putin), creating a persona that his votes could latch on to, and a following of money suppliers and lackeys all willing to throw themselves in front of the train to protect Trump from just about anything. All this simply by Trump being Trump, greedy, lazy, selfish, yet able to con people out of just about anything and draw attention to himself in ways few others could simply because he thrives on attention.

Anyone who tries to replicate this isn't going to succeed. Eventually the voters will rebel and who knows what will happen.

Trump is not healthy for the Republican Party any more than for the Country as a whole. Eventually, if the Republicans find that, no matter how much they cheat, lie, and steal elections they still lose, then they will self-implode leaving the Cheney's and the Romney's of government to pick up the pieces.
I'm starting to seriously wonder when they snap out of it. Like, it's been predicted and EVERY. DAMNED. TIME. the GOP's base have clinged onto Trump like he would upon an underage girl on Epstein's island.

There have been so many jumping off points, I think it's either going to be "he's dead", or maybe after 2024. I'm honestly already betting if they get don't retake the House in 2022, or even lose seats, they're just going to rationalize it that the people they ran weren't vocal enough in their support of Trump, and gear up for '24.

Because, at the end of the day, the GOP's base are about inflicting pain on the "other side" that isn't them. And they know Trump in power would do the most damage (literally, but more so psychologically), so that's the option they want.

It's f***ed up, but that's Republican politics now. "Troll the libs" without a single policy that actually matters outside of no limits on gun ownership (which Trump contradicted publicly) and banning abortion (which the SCOTUS could attempt).

The Republican base has been fed a steady diet of fear-inducing propaganda for decades which causes them to cling to the mythical strong-man they perceive in Trump. No matter his personal failings or the blatant corruption of his administration, if they think he'll save them from the horrors of Democratic socialism they'll stick with him or someone like him no matter how bad it gets.

Republicans are pushing new voter ID requirements in Pa. and N.J.

Republicans wanting stricter voter identification provisions in Pennsylvania is emerging as an early flashpoint with Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf in what GOP lawmakers cast as a top-to-bottom update of state election law following a presidential contest that former President Donald Trump still baselessly maintains was stolen from him.

Wolf’s chief of staff, Mike Brunelle, said the House Republican in charge of writing election legislation called him to discuss the matter, but it was a short conversation.
Wolf is ready to discuss legislation to update the state’s election law, but opposes changes to the voter ID law, Brunelle told The Associated Press.

“When voter ID was put on the table, it made it clear that it was not a serious discussion,” Brunelle said.
In New Jersey, lawmakers representing Warren County communities unveiled this week what they’re calling an “Election Integrity” bill package. It includes measures mandating that voters show a form of ID at the polls (A-134/S-3393) to legislation preserving that the winner of the Electoral College is based on state election results, as is done currently, and not the national vote (A-161/S-2653).

The bills range from legislation written for introduction by state Sen. Steve Oroho and Assemblymen Parker Space and Hal Wirths, all Republicans, to bills they are cosponsoring. Oroho, who is facing a GOP primary challenge next month from Daniel Cruz, along with Space and Wirths represent New Jersey’s 24th legislative district (Warren/Sussex/Morris).

It’s unclear if the bills have much of a chance of passing New Jersey’s Democratic-controlled Legislature.

I was wondering when butthurt Qpublicans in Pennsylvania would dredge up that ****. Predictably since the GQP lost the state, thanks to overwhelmingly Democratic support here in the Philadelphia region, they would try to push Voter ID nonsense to restrict the rights of citizens to vote. And, of course, Qpublicans will bring up similar laws in EVERY state Trump lost, so this madness isn't going to end anytime soon.

At least I am feeling rather confident that nothing like that will happen in NJ. There just aren't enough Republicans in government to do much of anything.

I know here in America we hear a lot about "unfair bias in the mainstream media." I'd struggle to find an example of such a thing here. But holy hell at the BBC (which I generally prefer to most American news outlets) reporting the election results in Scotland over the past two days. Every time it was announced that the Tories won a seat, it was a "resounding success" and every time they mentioned the SNP, which won significantly more seats, the coverage was along the lines of "SNP chances balanced on a knife's edge" or "independence has been rejected."

The BBC is good but it has its limits. Anything with the name British Broadcasting Company isn't gonna be happy with one of its states going its way.

Admittedly there are neutral and non-partisan reasons to be skeptical that a Scottish referendum will lead to independence. It will at the very least be far more competitive than the previous referendum on Independence at any rate.

I was gonna post about the UK. They apparently had their version of the "Midterms" and my understanding is that the Labour had a mixed night, with Keir Starmer suffering a major setback. Labour MPs on his left (in Wales and in Manchester) who formerly aligned themselves with Corbyn did far better than Starmer's own handpicked candidates it seems.

I kinda feel mixed. On one hand it's bad for UK to realize that the Labour party under Starmer likely won't be a viable opposition to Boris Johnson who is, to quote a British novelist, a horrorshow - Alex DeLarge in Charge. On the other hand, a part of me can't resist the schadenfreude at seeing a centrist hit himself with the rake-handle Sideshow Bob-style.

I think it does prove that being a centrist, like everything else, takes talent. Biden is an example of that, someone who talks and affects centrism but is capable of being flexible and open-minded once in office and in power (which he has shown several times in his career as Senator and VP). Whereas Starmer actually believes and earnest practises his centrism like a real idiot.

I've been watching the UK (or should I just start calling it Wee England now?) results too. The population is either addicted to the Tory sleaze they've been force-fed for years or else a silent majority are unrepentant Tory voters. I say silent majority it seems for years now the Conservatives win each election but the people can't seem to find anybody that actually voted for them.

Yeah, not a fan of Starmer. He seems like too much of a fence sitter for my liking.

(Accounting For That Mainstream "News..." Media In The States Is A Con...)

Take the jobs numbers versus projected jobs numbers that just came out.

They happen under a President Trump And Not A President Biden.

    How would they be reported?

I'd put the whole box of jellybeans on unfair media bias.

Kinda lie getting mad at Hamburglar for eating your burgers, but it's not like it is not there at all in anything like objective reality.

While I wanted to buy that someone from the "Enforcement..." arm could be different, it's looking more and more like giving any politician who came from that wing of government any support or the benefit of the doubt is pretty pointless...

So I stumbled on this Twitter thread. It starts with showing a Chipotle closed because the entire staff walked off due to the conditions they have to suffer through- overworked, under paid, no breaks. And as the thread continues, you see more and more fast food joints closed because the workers have had enough.
