Texas on Tuesday became the latest conservative state to bar certain concepts related to race and racism from being discussed in the classroom, ignoring the passionate objections of educators who say the new law will make it harder for them to teach about America’s true past and present.

A bill that legislators say sought to ban “critical race theory” in school — but never defined or mentioned the concept explicitly — stirred fear among educators that there could be repercussions for broaching current events during class.

But Republican lawmakers championed the bill, which mirrors language being passed in other red states and parrots parts of former President Donald Trump’s rescinded executive order targeting “critical race theory.”

The bill’s author, Rep. Steve Toth, R-The Woodlands, told his Texas House colleagues that the legislation was necessary “at a time when racial tensions are at a boiling point” and that “we don’t need to burden our kids with guilt for racial crimes they had nothing to do with.”

    What does this law prohibit?

While the legislation was labeled an “anti-critical race theory” bill, it doesn’t actually contain those words. Instead, it includes a long list of subjects and ideas that must — or must not — be taught. Critical race theory is an academic framework that explores how racism is embedded in U.S. policies and systems.

Recently, though, conservative pundits and politicians have attempted to conflate it with a slew of other concepts, such as diversity and inclusion efforts, anti-racism training, social justice activism or multicultural curricula.

Teachers can’t be “compelled to discuss a particular current event or widely debated and currently controversial issue of public policy or social affairs,” according to the new law. In January, for example, teachers grappled with how to properly teach about the U.S. Capitol insurrection and the inauguration of the first female vice president — knowing that the topics could be considered controversial but that the issues were on students’ minds.

School districts are also prohibited from requiring training that presents any form of race or sex stereotyping or blame on the basis of race or sex.

Dallas Superintendent Michael Hinojosa fears this provision could prevent ongoing districtwide training efforts over cultural competency. The training is part of a larger initiative to address the disparities Black students face at school. Trustees last year unanimously adopted a resolution declaring that Black lives matter.

The law prohibits teaching that “slavery and racism are anything other than deviations from, betrayals of, or failures to live up to, the authentic founding principles of the United States.” Several of the Founding Fathers owned slaves.

It was on this date in 2015 that "Crazy/Stupid Republican of the Day" profiled former Iowa state legislator Henry Rayhons, who after racking up an impressive record as a staunch social conservative, hit the news wire with a story that made people feel a little more uncomfortable watching “The Notebook”. See, Rayhons’ wife was convalescing with dementia in a local nursing home, and after multiple advisements for him to not continue a sexual relationship with his wife because she would be too confused to consent (including having her doctor force Mr. Rayhons to sign a waiver that he understood that ship had sailed), Rayhons still went ahead and gave his wife a conjugal visit, and was reported for it by her roommate to staff. He was acquitted after an emotionally grueling trial, but it’s pretty hard to continue a political career after a news story like that. As such, we’ll just deem it as still “the most depressing episode of Law & Order: SVU ever”.

In both 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, as well as 2020, “Crazy/Stupid Republican of the Day” presented profiles of the current U.S. House Representative from Oklahoma’s 3rd Congressional District, Frank Lucas, who in 2013, floated his own paranoid bit of fiction when in a radio interview, he claimed that the Obama administration was “leading a conspiracy to buy up all the bullets so they’re not available to us. At the point Rep. Lucas was wetting his pants at the thought of this sinister takeover, the theory had already been debunked not just by the administration, but by the NRA (who you’d think would be the first to cry foul). Lucas was not content just to push this as a theory, actually trying to legislate based off of it to ban any federal agency outside of the Pentagon from buying ammunition (it didn’t pass, because, y’know, crazy talk). That was, of course, when he wasn't working supporters up into a lather on his own website about "the truth about Benghazi" for years after the attack took place.

Anyway, Lucas found his way into office in a special election prior to the 1994 mid-terms to replace Glenn English, and his upset victory for the GOP was considered to be a sign of the "Red Wave" to come in the '94 mid-terms. And, for the past 23 years, as his district has been gerrymandered to be more and more conservative (currently it sits at a “mere” +26 Republican lean), he's grown bolder and bolder in his conservative agenda, having voted for the Defense of Marriage Act, the impeachment of President Bill Clinton, a constitutional amendment to allow government buildings to erect monuments of the Ten Commandments, the Gramm-Leach-Billey Act (which repeals key parts of the Glass-Steagall Financial Regulation Act, and opened the door for big banks to create the 2007 Sub-Prime Mortgage Housing Crisis), the Iraq War Resolution, the Terry Schiavo Incapacitated Persons Protection Bill, and was a co-sponsor for a bill to create a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage in 2006. Through most of the past decade, he’s voted against the Equal Pay Bill, the reauthorization of the Children's Health Insurance Program, denying health insurance to millions of children, against ENDA (allowing the continued discrimination of LGBT citizens based on their sexual identity in the workplace), against the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, against the Hate Crimes Expansion that would provide protections to LGBT citizens against Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform, against increased regulations on offshore oil rigs after the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill, and against the DREAM Act, against the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell". He has twice voted to defund Planned Parenthood, voted against the new version of the Violence Against Women Act, voted for the 2013 Government Shutdown and after 16 days, voted to keep the government closed. He’s also repeatedly voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act, voted to try and stop Syrian Refugees from being resettled in our country, and voted to try and prevent the United Nations Agenda 21 treaty from being enacted because… well, conspiracy theories, we suppose.

Lucas didn’t just ignore scientific experts on climate change, but dismissed a World Health Organization report linking pesticides made by the manufacturer Monsanto, such as Roundup, as causing higher risk for cancer, calling it “shoddy work. Big surprise, he receives donations to his campaign coffers from Monsanto.

Oklahoma’s 3rd Congressional District has a mere +26 Republican lean, per the Cook Partisan Voting Index, thus why he won re-election in 2020 by a mere 57 points. With a fresh two year term, Lucas assured that his voting record gets uglier by the day:

Frank Lucas is currently one of many Republicans getting on board with spreaing conspiracy theories about the origins of Covid-19, trying to blame it on the Chinese government. Because apparently, not enough Asian-Americans have been the victims of attacks by racists yet.

We cannot emphasize enough how much we’re looking forward to this wanker’s retirement, whenever it should come.

You know a couple back where I mentioned that this thread is often looking for a "Them..." so that it can be "Us Versus Them..."?

What, exactly, is it that you are talking about Willis?

I don't know if this qualifies as enough of a "them" for you Thirty.
It seems this nationwide push for anti-critical race theory legislation seems to be part of a bigger movement. The legislation itself is being written and distributed by a group called The Center for Renewing America, a think-tank headed by the former head of Trump's Office of Management and Budget, Russell Vought. This organization is part of a network of Trump-aligned advocacy groups including The America First Policy Institute founded by Larry Kudlow and Brooke Rollins, The American Cornerstone Institute head by Ben Carson, and America First Legal headed by Stephen Miller (in case anyone was wondering what that f**ker is up to) which is focused on combating the Biden Administration in the courts. This whole movement is possibly initiated by the Heritage Foundation.

Remember folks, nothing the GOP does is random. Before the election was decided they had the next four years planned out. While the Democrats are focusing on governing the nation at the Federal level, the Republicans are focused on change at the state level.

in the USA, it has reached over 600,000 covid deaths. I fear the covid death toll may eclipse the civil war death toll.
People are still getting covid and some are dying. I will be happy when it is over.

The Spanish flu pandemic lasted over two years. I hope the covid pandemic doesn't last longer than the Spanish flu.

During the Geneva Summit between Biden and Putin, a bunch of foreign nationals who love Trump turned up to have a boat parade on Lake Geneva and spread conspiracy theories that Trump won the election.

Most noteworthy in their number? Noor bin Laden, the niece of deceased terrorist Osama bin Laden, leading the whole boat parade, and is an un-ironic Trump supporter.
