The authorities have done that before.
They seemed to side with the parents.

His view is that the press should pass less attention to his minor daughter. While at one point she complained that someone from Child Protective Services had visited but done nothing, in another video, she said the police had just visited while she was home alone, but she sent them away and told them she was fine.
All of this has made onlookers speculate, and speculate some more. Some on social media think this is all a cry for help and want to get the authorities involved right away because Claudia is in danger. Others think this is all about a typical teenager hating on her mom, only this time she’s becoming famous for it.
On Thursday night, Conway posted a video showing a police officer visiting their home and talking to her mother.
“She’s upset. She’s been upset for a week because we had a tough call with her school,” the former Trump advisor tells the officer, while Claudia scowls at the camera as if to contradict this statement and says, “The facts!” Kellyanne mentions wanting to go to family therapy, while the police officer suggests taking away the teen’s access to her phone and the internet. This video is no longer accessible on TikTok, but TMZ captured the exchange.

I watched Conway just straight up lie to the press every. single. day. for what felt like years. It's very hard for me to side with anything she says. She's not just a known liar, she was a professional liar. Her job was to lie. Daily. About important information. To the press. To the American public. To the world at large.
So, you get one strike for all the lies we know you told. You get a second strike for being so completely morally and ethically bankrupt that you could do those things.
I'm not saying her child is absent any involvement in what's going on, but if I had to chose, I'd take the risk and side with the wellbeing of a minor over the quantifiably known liar.
But that's just me.
Also worth pointing out, this is a prime example of where "defund the police" comes in. Why are the police there? There are more appropriate people for this exact situation. The police aren't needed here.

Pentagon restricted commander of D.C. Guard ahead of Capitol riot
The commander of the D.C. National Guard said the Pentagon restricted his authority ahead of the riot at the U.S. Capitol, requiring higher level sign-off to respond that cost time as the events that day spiraled out of control.
Local commanders typically have the power to take military action on their own to save lives or prevent significant property damage in an urgent situation when there isn’t enough time to obtain approval from headquarters.
But Maj. Gen. William J. Walker, the commanding general of the District of Columbia National Guard, said the Pentagon essentially took that power and other authorities away from him ahead of a pro-Trump protest on Jan. 6. That meant he couldn’t immediately roll out troops when he received a panicked phone call from the Capitol Police chief warning that rioters were about to enter the U.S. Capitol.“All military commanders normally have immediate response authority to protect property, life, and in my case, federal functions — federal property and life,” Walker said in an interview. “But in this instance I did not have that authority.”
Walker and former Army secretary Ryan D. McCarthy are set to brief the House Appropriations Committee on Tuesday behind closed doors about the events, the beginning of what is likely to become a robust congressional inquiry into the preparations for a rally that devolved into a riot at the Capitol, leaving five people dead and representing a significant security failure. The military, which isn’t structured to be a first responder like law enforcement, took hours to arrive at the scene primarily because the Capitol Police and the District government hadn’t asked the D.C. Guard to prepare a contingency force for a riot. The Capitol Police chief also didn’t call Walker to tell him a request for Guard backup was imminent until about 25 minutes before rioters breached the Capitol. But the restrictions the Pentagon placed on Walker also contributed to the delay. He needed to wait for approval from McCarthy and acting defense secretary Christopher C. Miller before dispatching troops, even though some 40 National Guard members were on standby as a quick reaction force. That standby force had been assembled in case the few hundred National Guard troops deployed that day on the District’s streets to assist police with traffic control and crowd management needed help, Walker said.
The Pentagon required the highest-level approval for any moves beyond that narrow mission, in part because its leaders had been lambasted for actions the D.C. Guard took during last June’s racial justice protests, including helicopters that flew low over demonstrators in D.C. Top officials concluded those maneuvers resulted from “fragmentary orders” that hadn’t received high-level approval and were looking to prevent a repeat of that situation.

It seems to be looking more and more like there will not be a Senate conviction of Trump on impeachment mostly due to a majority of Republican voters who, according to polls, will never vote again for any Republican that votes for the impeachment.
Though I'm not a Dan Rather fan, I agree with him that if impeachment has become so partisan that inciting a riot and an attempted coup to overthrow the government in the sense of who the people voted for is not enough to overcome partisan bias by the senators and the public, then you might as well remove the process of impeachment from the legal books and be done with it.
Power with Girl is better.
This doesnt surprise me at all. I mean on the 6th and a couple days after there were GOP lawmakers saying Trump needs to be held accountable. And that Washington needed to start working together. People were thinking man maybe there is some light at the end of the tunnel. But then shocker these same GOP lawmakers started going on about how impeachment is a step too far, we need to unite by forgetting about a trial and starting to bitch about everything Biden has done.
I havnt really been watching the news too much the last couple days so I dont know what is going on with the power sharing in the Senate talks, or filibuster and all that.

The trial hasn't happened yet, and wait for it to come and pass, don't despair prematurely.
I disagree completely with that.Though I'm not a Dan Rather fan, I agree with him that if impeachment has become so partisan that inciting a riot and an attempted coup to overthrow the government in the sense of who the people voted for is not enough to overcome partisan bias by the senators and the public, then you might as well remove the process of impeachment from the legal books and be done with it.
Impeachment is a legal sanction and moral stain that however imperfect brings some amount of accountability. Removing it would be far worse.
The point is to bolster and improve legal penalties and not do away with what you already have on the books.
The thing that worries me is if Trump gets to speak at the trial. While it is his right, you know he'll take the opportunity to spew his insane ramblings all over the cable news stations that will carry the trial, which will just amp up his supporters even more.
I doubt Trump will speak at the trial. Number one if he does it would be like him saying they have the right to hold the trial in the first place, then he would not be able to go on and on about it being a witch hunt.
Number two he would not risk being called out by the Senators he has for four years belittled, degraded, tried to silence and then on the 6th tried to have killed.
Number three he will lie like crazy. Every statement would be a lie. I am pretty sure he would lie about his name. So since he will be under oath he could face some serious legal problems from that. So his lawyers, well maybe not Rudi because he is a fool, are most likely trying to advise him against it.
No way he willingly puts himself in that firing line.

Man who did it was only 17, and his life is over. But while these shootings are terrifying (God, I remember the Hamilton Avenue murders 15 years ago which my idgit self poorly described on here), these cases are rare and usually happen cause the perpetrator or perps heard on the grapevine drugs or money, and things go horrible.
I'm not absolving this cause I'm gobsmacked, but I think this is often lost in local conversations. Crime rarely happens cause folks are evil (though cases do exist). Crime usually happens cause folks are either desperate or believe they have nothing to lose.

So Kayleigh McEnany is going to FOX News. I think we all had this one on our Bingo cards.
