As far as "Business as Usual", he has the most progressive platform any nominee has ever had.
The real question is whether he has the power to actually accomplish any of those goals. Nevertheless, it's hard to imagine there will be any candidate for a while that is good at obtaining power and then has the vision to use that power when they take office. Even then, there has hardly been any presidency that has not been sideswiped by some unforeseen events. No matter what any candidate wants to do, not only must we question whether - even in perfect circumstances - they could actually accomplish very much of their agenda, but we have to acknowledge that the most important issue in their term will likely be responding to some event no one could have anticipated.

Much will depend on the Democrats taking the Senate. Without that Biden can mostly just reverse the damage from Trump's orders and appointees.

It's quite ghoulish, but McConnell is looking so ill and frail that people on social media are speculating about him being replaced by a Democratic governor sooner rather than later.

Never mind sounding like Tucker Carlson back during the Crime Bill debate.

Coming out in favor of what was right before 99.999 of the rest of the party back then would probably have been a laudable move.

Instead, we know he was basically up at the microphone sounding like Tucker Carlson last month.

    "Business As Usual..."

A couple of times where he has been talking about doing the right thing doesn't really change that reality.
I could talk all day about how people can change. I could talk about how he has publicly stated he now regrets the Crime Bill due to recent events making it clear to him how flawed it was. But here's what I'll say, he bears responsibility for the Crime Bill, he bears responsibility for what he said, and he bears responsibility for its mistakes, but the Crime Bill came from a time when crime was going through the roof, where fears that criminals would just get worse and worse were legitimate.

The Crime Bill was seen by both parties as a solution. Some parts of it were undeniably positive (with Biden even helping to incorporate the Violence against Women Act into it which even Sanders supported enough to vote for it) but some of it also had disproportionate effects. It was massive containing multiple laws, it was unwieldy and it had negative impacts on minorities. It was born from the desire to solve this crisis, when the political parties especially the Democrats were under intense pressure to do so.

Ironically the Republicans felt the Bill didn't go far enough and campaigned as such.

Biden despite helping to write it, did have his own problems with it because of its size and breadth (for example regarding repeat offences earning life sentences as "wacko").

And then there's the thing where while it certainly was intended to increase incarceration, it didn't actually impact it as much as it was supposed to.

Point is, it was seen by the Democrats as better than the alternative (whether that means crime spiralling further out of control or The Republicans own measures is up to your interpretation.) And that should be considered just as much as it's flaws.

The article below provides better descriptions.

True, but I would question whether Biden would have the real power - or personal willpower - even in a Democrat controlled government. He would have to take the ill-fitting role as the champion for the progressive wing against the very centrist senior democrats in the Senate and House that he really identifies with. He'd have to be able to get his people in charge of the most important committees and rally/force support from every member. I think it could be done, I just don't know if Biden has the power or inclination to do it.

My main strategy here is just that Biden represents as much of stop gap in the national decline as can be expected. Certainly a return to rationality at least in the discourse if not an improvement in the general emotional turmoil. Certainly, I agree many of the idiotically inhumane executive policies should hopefully stop at the border, but even Obama couldn't close Guantanamo Bay, and the inertia and inclination of the departments like ICE would probably respond slowly to even a presidential decree.

Yeah we need compete reform, President and get rid of Trump cultist senators.

That is true change. Otherwise if Joe is president all he can do is u do Trumps damage, the GOP senate again will fight him and cue next election ( if alive/capable he is 68) they will blame him for everything that went wrong.

    Also co sister the following:

The majority of the MAGA are Evangelicals. I decided to look up what the **** that means. It means these crazy white southerners want America to occupy Israel completely.

They believe in doing that the Rapture occurs, they get beamed to Heaven and everyone else condemned to Hell fire and brimestone.

This is not Christianity. This is a death cult that just happens to get good press as it calls itself Christsin.

ACA overhall with a Public option, rescind Trump Tax cuts and tax the rich, rejoin the Paris Accords and move aggressively toward renewable, defend Gay rights, bring together a commission on police reform,...not progressive enough for some, but still would be good accomplishments. Will happen with a Democratic Congress.

I get it's a slipup, but McConnell is a senator, not governor.

As for his weird hand condition, don't wanna speculate. Those don't look like Covid symptoms to me, maybe he got accidentally burned in some house accident or the other. He's also an old dude and so on. Maybe it's a sauna gone wrong. I don't think it's a big deal, not yet anyway.

Best advice? Help them in every way you can even if it's just keeping them company and keeping them updated.

If McConnell has to step down, the Governor of his State, who is a Democrat, will name his replacement. The Governor will not replace him in the Senate personally, he will appoint the person who will.

Yeah, not really a slip up.

Beshear would pick someone to finish out the term in that "What If?..."

Under Kentucky law, the replacement could serve till the next election in 2022 if it happens after November 3.

Today marks the four year anniversary of the day James Comey set Hilary Clinton’s campaign on fire, and basically handed the Presidency to Trump.

Just think about how much better off we would be if that never happened, and if we actually had a competent leader in the Oval Office...
