Republicans are able to do this because they have several amoral billionaires funding a decades old multi media unofficial propaganda wing and a base who love blindly following leaders. That's not an option the Democrats have and even if they were to start that today it'd take decades before they got on equal terms to the GOP. People underestimate how much of an advantage this is for Republicans in doing anything.

What people actually need to do is stop giving Democrats a pass on just throwing their collective hands up, and saying "But... They Have FNC!!!"

Biden has taken to busking on twitter for transition funds when he could ask Pelosi to start a House investigation on that Emily woman.

Granted, Biden asking for a dollar to spare on twitter is something Onion Joe Biden would do.

Pelosi investigating won't do anything, and the clock is ticking when Biden becomes president and he needs all hands on deck the very second he begins. Biden needs as much money as possible for the transition ASAP.

Anyway, there are multiple Senators down with Covid-19 so McConnell can't improve judges, it's also hitting members of Trump's extended family, and oh yeah, Covid-19 is still getting White House Staffers sick, and Trump's "Elite Squad" of lawyers may have been exposed to some of these people as well, and be down and out sick in the next few days so they can't be acting like a team of Lionel Hutzes.

So much winning.

I know pol.sci folks have a rigid definition of fascism and are wary about seeing it apply.

But in so far as fascism is overturning the norms, rules, conventions of liberal democracy for reactionary/authoritarian/populist reasons...Trump is a fascist.

Lyndon B. Johnson used dirty tricks to get the Civil Rights Act passed and also the Great Society. He was our liberal McConnell, well an anti-McConnell since he didn't do obstructionism to get what he wanted.

John Oliver had that bit about "Stupid Watergate", this is "Stupid Coup d'Etat" or "Stupid Fascism" where you have the shattering of democratic norms and institutions of a coup and fascism but with total morons and nincompoops at every level up-and-down the chain.

Dude, under the classical Greco-Roman definition, anyone who doesn't speak the Athenian dialect of Greek, or anyone not a Roman citizen, was a barbarian. The word barbarian was a greek insult used by Athenians to make fun of the accents of non-Athenians. That's how the word originated. To them the language of non-athenians was made up nonsense words (Bar-bar-bar, or so on). The word Barbarian orginated in the same mentality as high school insults deployed by Regina George.

Let's not bring Romans and Greeks into this.

Trump isn't a fascist, although he's certainly empowering fascists. Fascism requires a tautological vision of yourself as being superior, because you're part of a greater whole, which is greater because it includes superior people like you, thus justifying all manner of brutality towards your supposed inferiors.

Trump compensates for his pathetic insecurities by believing nothing is equal to his personal greatness. He is a part of nothing, because nothing is grand or great enough for him. He cannot see himself as belonging, in his mind - to bastardize Morrison - Trump Is.

Of course, actual fascists, being either too dimwitted to see Trump for what he is, or cynically exploiting the climate he is creating are thriving thanks to Trump.

There's going to be a day soon where Biden is president, Trump can't host rallies due to the pandemic still raging, Trump is indicted by SDNY, and all of these guys get the knives out so they and not Trump can be the 2024 nominee. The dumb ones will try to rally around their albatross (Matt Gaetz and his ilk) but the survivors will look to finish him off and fill the vacuum.

If you listen, you can hear them sharpening them now, when his base is more ready to abandon him. It's becoming more likely as the "election rigging" fizzles with Rudy at the helm, and as people keep dying and he does nothing.
