One GOP Senator decided against this (name escapes me) because she knows how badly this went. Trying to play to this base is wrong.

We need to face the uncomfortable reality that conservatives just aren't intelligent or responsible enough to have the same constitutional rights the rest of us have. When given free speech, they simply lie and incite violence. When given the right to bear arms, they look for excuses to murder their fellow Americans. What happened today is 30+ years of con stupidity coming home to roost. We need to have a real discussion in this country about if maybe the constitution should really apply equally to everyone. Or if some people simply aren't intelligent enough to handle it. This might sound "smug" but it might also be necessary. Europe does not allow absolute freedom of speech of ideas. Now we see why. Maybe they are onto something. This may mean actually barring people who have certain beliefs from even being able to run for office. And restricting certain ideas from being broadcast over the airwaves. Freedom comes with responsibilities. And conservatives have demonstrated over and over again they simply aren't intelligent enough to handle those responsibilities. We don't allow anyone under the age of 18 to vote on the understanding that they are not mature enough to make an informed decision about picking responsible leaders. Yet we let grown adults many years older than that run and vote for candidates who believe things that are clearly not true.

Before anyone dismisses this as "fascist", can you honestly say this is any different than the world cons want to build themselves? Firing college professors for accepting climate change is real. Barring the teaching of evolution. Or acknowledging homosexuality exists. Banning books from libraries. Outlawing anything they deem pornographic. No matter how broadly they define that term. For all their talk about "cancel culture", conservatives invented the concept. And for things way more ridiculous than we use it for. Ask yourself this: Do you really want to go through what we went through today every election year? Because that's what we're staring down the barrel of if we don't change. We tried letting every idiotic and false idea have an equal platform with the truth. This is the result. Some people just aren't intelligent enough to tell when they are being lied to. And it's clearly too large a percentage of the population to dismiss.

I get your feelings, but I'm not sure it'd work.

Also, Europe's curb on hate speech often tetter to window-dressing; case in point, when a police officer caught on camera sporting SS and Nazi markings still get promoted because his insitution protect him. I honestly feel that if you want stuff like today's (yesterday's?) event from happening again, you need a deep purge of the police and security forces... oh, and make sure super-wealthy get heavy taxes. I'm not sorry, if you're earning one million dollars a year, you don't need more. Looking especially at you Jeff Bezos.

This ain't it chief. Conservatives aren't storming the capitol because they are just too stupid to know any better, they are doing exactly what best serves their interests within the structure of the society that we've built. By pulling this kind of **** and basically facing no consequences for it, that only serves to remind everyone that regardless of how the elections shake out, they still have all the power and can tear **** up whenever they please for whatever silly reason, whereas the rest of us best not raise a peep lest we feel the full weight of "law and order" pressed down on our necks. Acting like everything's fine except for the actions of a few bad apples is what got us here, we should really know better by now.

There's enough studies out there that show that intelligence isn't really a primary factor in people embracing conspiracy theories--it's loneliness. The percentage of misinformation to fact in the internet gets higher pretty much every year, and there's a bunch of people who live in their own bubble who are inundated with false information every day. Their parents, their teachers, have etc have taught them the wrong thing. It's hard to leave that social circle if you are in that bubble.

I really think we need to have a large % of the nation to be reprogrammed. Our own population has been radicalized.

There are still idiots on Capitol Hill arguing for Trump at this hour.

The Rep from Illinois has roasted them pretty hardcore.

Those that were rioting were in the wrong, overshadowing those that were truly just there to protest what had happened, the rioters were wrong...I'm not trying to say that what happened there was as bad as what happened today, only that both situations were wrong...the rioting part not the protesting part...
The people that tried what they tried yesterday didn't do this spontainiously. This isn't like some looters that roll over to protests in their area in order to get free stuff during the chaos. These people came from all over at this time for the specific reason of busting into the building. That's a world of difference.

Yes he did! So did one other Republican that I don't remember his name. He was older and his mask was falling off due to his yelling at his party members.

What is the current over under on the Rs splitting?

The newest deal for Trump supporters who don't want to believe their own would storm the Capitol is to post fb memes and more claiming the people involved were Antifa. That they were posing as Trump supporters now. Because the truth of it all is just too much.

    Don't know...

Later on last night, there was a lotta "Dudes Done Stepped Over The Line..." going around.

"I'm Siding With Rand Paul... How Often Does That Happen?..."

Dude is pretty clearly the Shane that no one is gonna feel that bad about that he had to go.

In France, the limit is “incitation to hatred and violence”. But because of history, the simple display of nazi symbols is that.

Mind-blowing that the one to encourage hatred and violence is the President of United States…
