If a heavily Democratic state like Maryland doesn't want to take the residents of DC, it does suggest the party's top priority isn't providing representation, but something else.
    This is actually super wrong.

    It's not "truth" though.

The Kente cloth was a recent gift from the government of Ghana, and it was worn at the urging of the Congressional Black Caucus, not Pelosi's.

Glad I could clear that up for you.

While those are not actually my posts, I'd guess that what you assume is the "Truth..." there is most likely not the "Truth..." they were discussing.

Never mind that not everyone was on the same page when it came to that instance...

    https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/08/polit...rnd/index.html

Congressional Democrats criticized for wearing Kente cloth at event honoring George Floyd
The wearing of the Kente cloths drew criticism from a University of Oxford researcher who saw the move as performative.

"My ancestors did not invent Kente cloth for them to be worn by publicity (obsessed) politicians as 'activism' in 2020," Jade Bentil, a Ghanaian-Nigerian researcher at University of Oxford, tweeted.
Other observers from the journalism and entertainment worlds added to Bentil's criticism, arguing that the lawmakers were just using the cloth as a political prop.

"Standing in front of a church and holding up a bible you never read for a photo op is no different than kneeling in kente cloth you never wear for a photo op," Charles Robinson, a sports reporter for Yahoo tweeted, referring to the now infamous moment when President Donald Trump held up a Bible at St. John's Episcopal Church for a photo-op last week.

"What if they, like, just passed some laws instead of dressing up like a Wakandan chess set?" screenwriter Eric Haywood tweeted.

SCOTUS Guts Protections Against Sentencing Kids To Die In Prison

The court’s conservatives said there is no need to prove a minor who commits murder is “permanently incorrigible” in order to sentence them to life in prison without parole. Considering most kids who go to prison are usually black or brown, no wonder this Court voted the way it did. Heinous!

I know the GOP still feel like they can court Asian voters, but good luck with that for the next election cycle if they go in lockstep to block this.

If people outside China are concerned about China's treatment of Uighyurs, then they should boycott Chinese made goods.

If you want to protest the actions of the Chinese government, then don't buy anything from China.

Chinese government is profiting from the sales of their products to the world market. Where do you think a portion of their profits will end up? It is used to fund the construction and maintenance of the Xinjiang internment camps.

They absolutely should agree to look at the unrelated riots ...

...and the way the people involved in the capitol riot, in the cases of Boogaloo Boys and Proud Boys, were involved in them and how the hands-off nature of policing right-wing extremists in these scenarios empowered them to take the capitol.

Really depressing, but worth pointing out...

    https://wgntv.com/news/chicagocrime/...man-shootings/

Trans woman dead after 2 separate West Pullman shootings less than a mile from each other
Kim Fountain, Chief Administrative Officer at the Center on Halsted, said this marks the third murder of a transgender women in Chicago in the last four months.

“It’s just absolutely tragic to see the level of violence that particularly Black trans women are exposed to,” Fountain said.

Police said they don’t know of anyone who witnessed either of the shootings. CPD is looking into if gender was a motive for her killing.

I'm pretty sure the Democratic Party wishes Andrew Cuomo would just resign and go away, but not only has he refused, the Democratic run state government doesn't seem to be pushing very hard for that to happen. A person might get the idea that the national party and a state government run entirely by members of said party aren't the same thing, an idea you seem to be insisting cannot be the case with Maryland.
Democrats outnumber Republican by a good amount in Maryland, with 55% of residents affiliated with the party, compared to 31% of residents leaning Republican and 14% who do not lean either way.

    https://www.pewforum.org/religious-l...y-affiliation/

The breakdown of the state in the last presidential elections was 65% for Joe Biden (VS 32% for Trump), 60% for Hillary Clinton (VS 34% for Trump), 62% for Obama in 2012 (VS 36% for Romney), 62% for Obama in 2008 (VS 36.5%), 56% for Kerry (VS 43% for Bush- still good enough to be Kerry's 6th best state), and 56.5% for Gore, compared to 40% for Bush.

While it currently has a Republican Governor, Republicans have won the Governor's race in the state three times since 1970. I'll note Republicans often overperform in gubernatorial elections which aren't about national control.

The Senators have been Democratic since 1987, and Democrats outnumber Republicans in the US House 7 to 1. In the state legislature, Democrats outnumber Republicans 32 to 15 in the state senate, and 99 to 42 in the assembly.

The state is pretty damn Democratic-leaning.

That's an interesting question on what should be done with former areas of DC if it were to become a state.

It would make sense for the areas that went to Virginia to go back to DC proper. A big part of the reason Democrats wouldn't want to do that is that it wouldn't be to their advantage.

At this point, if Democrats had enough of a majority in the House and Senate, I think we'd see DC statehood because it gives the party an advantage.
