House narrowly passes $1.9 billion Capitol security bill after January 6 insurrection

The final vote was 213-212, with three voting present. Progressives almost blocked the bill in a last-minute effort because they did not support the funding in the bill that would go to the police. Three Democrats voted present: Jamaal Bowman of New York, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Alexandria-Ocasio Cortez of New York. Three Democrats voted no: Cori Bush of Missouri, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts.

The narrow vote underscores how House Democratic leadership has little room for error in passing legislative priorities given the size of its current majority.
    Trouble comes from both sides.

No surprise Boebert and Trashy Greene were among those Qpublicans who voted no on the Anti-Asian hate crimes bill. No surprise The Squad voted against the Capitol security bill. Yeah, both sides indeed.

There are even more reasons not to want the job. No one keeps it long. Gingrich stuck around for two terms. Boehner had four and a half years. Paul Ryan had three and a half years.

Hastert stuck around the longest, although the perception was that others had more power.

But people do still want it. Scalise has been in leadership for seven years. Stefanik torpedoed her reputation as a moderate in order to become the #3 Republican in the House.

It’s a position of power and prestige for a reason, but it’s also a position that can vacillate between being the spearhead for clear and concise mandate shared by a cohesive political movement... or being the number one target for a bunch of ambitious backstabbers from among a large group of angry cats incapable of more than a modicum of collective focus.

I wrote a book with them. Outlaw’s Shadow: A Sherwood Noir. Robin Hood’s evil counterpart, Guy of Gisbourne, is the main character. Feel free to give it a look: https://read.amazon.com/kp/embed?asi...E2PKBNJFH76GQP

No one wants to be a GOP House Speaker because the party no longer believes in actually governing, just petty bulls***. You have a caucus full of feigned outrage spigots with no defining goals other than to bicker and maybe agree on a marginalized group to cause pain to.

That's the prize. You get to lead those f***ing loons. All of whom want more power, but like the proverbial dog chasing a car, wouldn't know what to do with it if they had it.

House speaker has some benefits like the second in line of succession after the vice-president. No wonder Nancy Pelosi wants the job.

As far as I can tell, Pelosi has absolutely no desire to be President under any circumstances. Right now she is doing what she wants, that is to get the House to pass as many Democratic bills and other legislature though as possible.

Tami has a better take on it. We could see how ambitious she was to impeach Trump that even after he committed obstruction of justice by firing Comey, she waited a whole three years before actually bringing a vote to impeach him for trying to extort Congressionally-approved aid to Ukraine.

If anything, she was holding off on trying to move up the line of succession and just do the job she was elected to do as Speaker.

It's... beyond insane, and out of touch with the realm of possibility, which means these dips***s really are thinking it's possible.

Is it any surprise that the majority of these 63 Republicans are from states that once were part of the Confederacy? But yeah, there's no legacy of racism there.

Beefed-up unemployment had a "small" impact on workers looking for jobs, a new Fed paper shows.
Labor market data show on average, just one worker out of 28 chose UI over accepting a job offer.
The authors said the $300 weekly benefit likely affected "employers' perception of worker availability."

Not only is the American cult of work fetishism ridiculous and unhealthy, but once again, the talking point that existed basically because some business owners and GOP members were mad that people weren't rushing to take their poverty-wage jobs proved untrue.

Biden Applauds Israel And Hamas Agreeing To Cease-Fire In Gaza

Biden addressed the conflict after talking with Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu. Fighting in the Palestinian territory of Gaza is set to stop Friday morning. So, what happens next?

GOP Lies Fueled The Capitol Riot. Of Course They Don’t Want A Panel To Expose That.

House Republicans opposed to a Jan. 6 commission also spread lies of a stolen election — the same lies that led to the insurrection. They know that. Yeah, the same lies that put the lives of politicians, including the Vice President in mortal danger during the riot. The media should hammer the GQP 24/7 about that, because it's the truth!

    **********

Some Republicans Opposed To Capitol Riot Commission Supported One In January

Check out this big flip-flop by 16 Republicans who supported an independent commission in January, then voted against one this week. What changed? My guess, Qpublicans fear that commission would wreck their chances of retaking the House in 2022.

Greg Gutfeld’s ‘Bumbling Dodge’ On Big Election Lie Sparks Fox News Fight

Fox News’ Juan Williams asked his co-host whether the 2020 election was stolen, and the bickering began. Faux News gonna faux. What a bunch of morons!

Trump’s Justice Department Secretly Got CNN Reporter’s Phone, Email Records, Network Says

Barbara Starr was told by the DOJ that the Trump administration had obtained the records for a two-month period in 2017. That was shady, dangerous stuff.

GOP Rep. Louie Gohmert Concedes People Think He’s The ‘Dumbest Guy In Congress’

Then he made a point about SAT scores and the Department of Education that’s contradicted by test data. No, Louie, people KNOW you're the dumbest guy in Congress.

I really like what The Colerain city police are doing. This is a city in my area. They are putting a Transparency portal on their website. it will be updated at the end of every month and will show everything from traffic stops, and tickets written to and this is important to me Use of Force Incidents. From what I understand it will talk about waht type of stop or inncident and name the officer involved.

    I really like this.

U.S. House candidate Anthony Bouchard had a relationship with and impregnated a 14-year-old girl when he was 18, he told the Star-Tribune late Thursday, hours after he disclosed the relationship in a Facebook Live video to his supporters.
