It's either 'You are Pregnant' and so you are being watched for any sign that you are considering an abortion or even signs that you might miscarry. Or you are not pregnant and you a questioned as to why you are not pregnant, 'Did you have an abortion'?

Laws like this leads back to the 'Barefoot and pregnant' view of a woman's role in life. If she is not fulfilling that role, accusations are bound to be made. Especially when there is a bounty on their heads.
So will women in Texas who have had their tubes tied have to carry a doctor's note confirming that at all times? What about teenage girls who get the Norplant injection? Will they have to get tattoos on their arms where they were injected? I know, this may qualify as a reductio ad absurdum argument, but still...

Check back in about 10 or 15 years if this law stands, Roe V Wade is rescinded, and more states adopt teh Texas model.

Shadow docket Supreme Court decisions could affect millions

The shadow docket, a phrase coined by University of Chicago Law School professor William Baude, skips many if not all of those steps. The biggest element: It does not possess the transparency and disclosure of a typical docket. Outside of a flurry of court filings between the plaintiffs and defendants in the three recent, prominent cases, there was little interaction between the court and the participants. None of the orders issued by the majority in the three cases was signed, although at least one of them ended the protection for roughly 3.5 million people in the United States who said they faced evictions in the next two months, according to Census Bureau data from early August.

I'm unaware of anyone prominent who would say some KKK groups are fine. Even Trump's Charleston comments didn't say that.
As I said earlier, do Republicans say racism is good? Of course not. But they consistently enact policies that promote racism, and block policies that condemn it. Leaping from that to openly supporting the KKK is a false equivalency that is not worthy of you.

You say that as if it has some sort of relevancy, or that it wasn't as bad as the media was making out. Again, ilike to think you're above that, but you've made several references in the past few days about "things were better than the media made it seem," and that is just horrifying given the nature of what this discussion is about and the scale of how it has been happening that is absolutely indisputable

By all means we should incentivize people to keep their children under immediate threat of life rather than flee to this country. *eyeroll*

At that point, there weren't serious efforts to go for pre-Lincoln policies, as that would necessitate the return of slavery, which was not a live issue in the later 19th century.

I do think we could see some attributes of modern liberals in those early political fights, with a push for worker protections, the development of a social safety net, greater limits on powerful rich people, support for unions, the creation of the income tax, and greater efforts to build an international community through membership in intergovernmental organizations.
There was a far, far greater effort for a return to slavery at the turn of the century than you seem to have been taught about, just as there's a far greater effort to return to pre-women's rights today that were gained in the 1960s and 1970s. A war was fought and lost over it, so it wasn't at the top of any national political platform, but much of the country was still seething over it.

Those issues you mention are not attributes of modern liberalism. They are attributes of liberalism period. At the time, the GOP embodied liberal ideals and democrats did not.

Again, liberal thinking is about moving forward. Conservative thinking is about returning to something that used to be. It doesn't matter what political party you hang the ideologies on. The principle is unchanging, and defines the very heart of what motivates liberals and conservatives.

Don't tell me DeSantis cares about people dying.

Florida to issue $5,000 fines for businesses, schools who ask for proof of COVID-19 vaccine

A bill signed in May by Gov. Ron DeSantis will allow the state to issue fines beginning Sept. . 16 if people are asked to show proof they have received a COVID-19 vaccine before being allowed in businesses, schools or government buildings.

We have, since the inception of the Monroe Doctrine, monopolized nearly all of the resources of this hemisphere in order to sustain our standard of living, leaving everyone else destitute in the process. As long as this economic disparity continues, you won't be able to build a wall high enough to keep those people from coming here in the hope of getting just a taste of that prosperity. And no, it isn't an option for them to simply stay put and fix their own countries, as long as the USA remains economically and militarily dominant, there are precious few opportunities for anyone else to improve their lot. Any country in the Americas that has shown even a hint of success has been sanctioned, embargoed, couped, or in some cases just outright annexed, just so everyone knows exactly who runs shit over here.

So if you really care about stopping immigration flows, first we need to stop treating Latin America as our playground and actually let them run their own affairs for once. And then we will likely have to provide them with significant development aid, except this time with a genuine intent to help them rather than just using it as a tool to gain resource concessions or political influence. And even then, these countries can only really be successful if they can find some niche in the global economy that doesn't put them at a significant disadvantage compared to more established players. And only if all the stars align here, and after a few decades to see how things shake out, and assuming that nothing else drastic happens in the meantime, perhaps they can reach something approaching parity with American living standards and will no longer see a reason to come here. If you're serious about limiting immigration, this is what we will have to do, otherwise people will keep coming no matter how dangerous or risky we make it for them.

And the same really goes for Europe, Australia, Japan, or whatever other rich country that wants to act all shocked and appalled that their wealth attracts people to move there. One of the central tenets of capitalism is that people will always chase economic opportunities wherever they are available, and will brave whatever risks necessary if they are desperate enough. Of course, what makes it doubly sad is that nearly all of these countries are facing declining birthrates and hence need to plug huge gaps in their labor force, for which their current strategy of just shaming women into having more babies for the sake of national survival isn't really working out.

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/ri...ewsntp&pc=U531

OVID-19 cases are surging in schools across North Texas, forcing some districts to return their campuses to online learning.

Last year, Richardson ISD had 1,854 positive cases in total. In just the last 13 days, they’ve had 525.

The Texas Education Agency is reporting 55 school districts in Texas had one or more of their schools close due to COVID-19 since the beginning of the year.

The districts are not required to tell TEA about closures, so the number is likely under-reported.

“This year, living with Delta, we should be doing more. Delta is more contagious,” said Keller ISD parent Marti Shavor.

Keller ISD is not requiring masks.
Keller, Texas who is represented by???? some guys named John Cornyn and Ted Cruz.

During the week of Aug. 8, 1,273 student cases were confirmed in Texas.

Over 5,000 were reported the next week, and another 18,000 the following week.

Fast forward to the week of Aug. 29 and data shows Texas had over 27,000 student cases of COVID-19.
