Its crazy but if no one remembers the Midnight Rider situation ; there was a film coming about the life of Gregg Allman. William Hurt was to play him with Wyatt Russell.

Anyhow the people behind the scenes decided to not get permission or anything to film a scene on a railroad bridge. They didn't know a train was coming and a lady lost her life in that.

I forgot to add the family sued as well for her death. Allman after this tragedy didn't want the film restarted.

Some answers and more questions about the Baldwin thing. Supposedly an AD handed Baldwin the gun and declared it empty, (obviously it wasn't). The director was standing behind the DP, which is how both were hit. Why Baldwin violated basic gun safety by pointing the gun directly remains to be seen, and will likely figure in any suit against him.

My personal feeling is that the biggest problem with this sort of thing is that actors these days, (though not in the past), don't tend to have any familiarity with guns and therefore neither respect their power properly, or fear them, or simply are ignorant of how to properly handle them. So...since actors these days often spend months bulking up for roles, why not give them two weeks of gun training if they will be on either end of one during production? I suspect that if the gun had been handed to say John Wayne back in the day, he would have checked it himself, as he should---largely because he was familiar with guns, having used them most of his life, (and having a rather great model to watch, having met Wyatt Earp back when Wayne was an extra). Most of these issues aren't due to bad rules, but rather people on set failing to follow procedures. And not just actors should get that training. Directors, obviously ADs, and anyone else involved with the weapons.

Of course the reports also highlight another problem....money. I suspect in this case there was a lot of budget pressures as indicated that probably contributed. In the end, it's probably a chain of problems that all needed to happen for this tragedy to occur.

I don't believe Baldwin will have any suit case brought against him. He isn't John Wayne and has been acting for many years and likely never had this situation on set where a gun wasn't checked fully and believed it had been clearly checked through. Baldwin will be called as a witness if a suit happens against the company.

I have heard elsewhere (but not through a news report) that Baldwin was filming a scene where he was supposed to be firing almost directly at the camera - one of those perspective shots at the business end of the gun. Although if he is one of the producers he is still going to be liable to some degree no letter what.

He is a producer on the film. The big question is how much power did Baldwin have over production and he's likely getting a lawyer right now over it. According to LA Times report the crew that was replaced had complaints over lack of payment for 3 weeks , terrible covid safety practices , taking away their motels at one point and no safety on set.

The film has 5 other Producers on this.

6 producers makes for a shitshow even without any of the other issues (I wonder how many may have stemmed from that many people each wanting their cut?).

A large part of how The Hobbit got so bloated was having too many producers - they added a third film specifically to be able to pay them all. Although at least there we only got a bloated film....and film workers were prohibited from being able to form a union by law in New Zealand as part of it. But no one died at least.

You're using John Wayne as an example? The man who accidentally shot Ward Bond in the butt?

On this date, in 2014, in 2015, and in 2016, “Fanatical Republican Extremist of the Day” published profiles of former Kansas Congressman Tim Huelskamp, a man who claims President Obama is using the military as guinea pigs to promote a gay agenda, has accused the Supreme Court of demeaning Jesus by overturning bans on gay marriage, and while questioning the Secretary of the Dept. of Veterans’ Affairs, took the time to ask why Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid doesn’t like veterans, refusing to apologize for the query after the fact. Huelskamp isn’t just anti-gay, though, he’s also got a terrible record on women’s issues, and all too often in his attacks on their right to choose, he compares abortion to slavery. And just to give you an idea of how utterly toxic this guy is, even is own party can’t stand him. Huelskamp was stripped of his committee posts in 2012 along with Justin Amash and David Schweikert because, as one anonymous GOP aide put it, “They were the most egregious assholes in the House Republican Conference.” Our update from 2015 featured the disgraceful rhetoric of Huelskamp actually finding a way to somehow get worse, as he called the failed effort by the House Freedom Caucus to not fund the Department of Homeland Security as an example of Speaker John Boehner “surrendering the Constitution to the left”, called the Iran nuclear deal “not a deal, but a gift to radical Islam”, gave a speech on the floor of the House where he claimed Planned Parenthood is racist “and targets minority communities for destruction and elimination”, and ten minutes before Pope Francis spoke before Congress, Huelskamp decided to mark the occasion to get on Twitter and attack Vice President Joe Biden, a fellow Catholic of “voting for years to kill babies”. We are thrilled to report that in the 2016 elections, Huelskamp was defeated in the GOP Primary, and no longer is serving as a testament to how little oxygen a brain can survive with in our nation’s capitol.

On this date in 2017, as well as 2018, “Fanatical Republican Extremist of the Day” profiled the now-former U.S. House Representative from Virginia’s 5th Congressional District Tom Garrett, who was photographed miling with Jason Kessler, the piece of human garbage that organized the Neo-Nazi rally in Charlottesville, Virginia that led to the death of Heather Heyer. And Garrett is such a f***ing scumbag himself that after Heyer’s death, he still had the unmitigated gall to go on Fox Business Channel to try and “both sides” the situation and claim “we’ve worked since 1776 to erase horrible flaws like slavery and second-class citizenship and to think that my child might be born into a world where we’re regressing is genuinely frightening.” Which, the United States did not “work since 1776 to erase slavery”, as the country trucked along for four score and seven years before something was done about it, and we had to have a whole civil war about the issue before it was settled. Mweanwhile, Garrett had, as a legislator, represented the passions of the Neo-Nazis who were there to talk about their precious Confederate monuments, like when he co-sponsored as a state legislator to preserve said monuments. Now, Rep. Garrett rode the Alt-Right hatred stoked by Donald Trump’s presidential campaign into office in 2016, coming out of a five year tenure from the Virginia State Senate where he co-sponsored legislation to criminalize oral and anal sex between teenagers (oddly specific to worry about those kinds, and not the kinds that could result in teen pregnancies), attempts to drug test welfare recipients, voting against efforts to offer LGBT citizens protections against discrimination, votes against equal rights for women, as well as votes for mandatory ultrasounds prior to an abortion that would make Ken Cuccinelli proud, co-sponsoring a Personhood bill, and attempts at voter suppression through unnecessary stricter Voter ID requirements. All of that was his resume to replace Virginia Congressman and CSGOPOTD Robert Hurt as the Republican representative for Virginia’s 5th Congressional District after being picked at the GOP’s party convention for this seat (which usually results in more conservative candidates in Virginia), and then defeating Jane Dittmar with 58% of the vote in a traditionally conservative seat. At the debate with Dittmar a few weeks prior to the 2016 election, Garrett mentioned that our election was “rigged”, echoing a certain oranged-hued cretin on the presidential ticket, argued vehemently in favor of the 2nd Amendment being unimpeded, claiming that Democrats trying to pass a law to prevent terrorists on the “no fly list” from being able to buy firearms was “racist”, and when presented with a question about curtailing gun violence, scoffed, saying ,“the question is fallacious on its face, because homicides and suicides aren’t caused by gun use, they’re caused by people, that’s like saying that home construction is caused by hammer use.” Garrett’s campaign rhetoric, of course, also was stuffed full of as much anti-immigrant bigotry as possible, fanning the flames of xenophobia about immigrants from Central America, as well as Muslim immigrants from Somalia, and going as far as to claim that “Sharia Law” was a threat rising around the globe. While serving in his one term in office, in an MSNBC interview where Garrett admitted most of the House GOP hadn’t read the healthcare repeal bill they were about to vote on in Congress, and were just asking their staff to do it for them. At a town hall in May of 2017, when asked about Trump’s potential collusion with the Russians, Garrett set the bar for the President of the United States about as low as it can get by downplaying complaints about his poliices by saying they’re “small potatoes compared to Nazi Germany”. Going into 2018, Garrett’s pals from hate groups were going to be brought up REPEATEDLY so that voters heading to the polls know that if they don’t want a guy who’s palling around with Nazis… at least that’s what we thought until Garrett abruptly announced that he wouldn’t be running for a second term in office in March of 2018, instead choosing to seek out treatment for alcoholism. That might just be the cover story, though, as about two months later, it was revealed that Garrett and his wife had managed to spend their first year and half working in the capitol treating their Congressional staff like their personal servants, forcing them to do their grocery shopping, laundry pick-up, and cleaning up dog poop, among other menial tasks on the taxpayer’s dime.

On this date in both 2019, as well as 2020, “Fanatical Republican Extremist of the Day” profiled Scott Taylor, the former U.S. House Representative from Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District who served one term in office from 2017-2019, after winning in office in 2016 with 61% of the vote. This was after a failed 2010 run for the same seat where he lost in the GOP Primary to Scott Rigell. As a member of the Virginia State Senate from 2013-2016 prior to that, Taylor had a 0% rating from NARAL for his votes on abortion, including attempts to defunding Planned Parenthood. During his one term in office in Congress, Scott Taylor supported Donald Trump’s bigoted Muslim Ban, and voted for some of the GOP’s s***tiest piece of legislation, including (but not limited to) the GOP’s attempt to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, the GOP’s insane tax plan/scam, to uphold the rights of the mentally incompetent to continue to own firearms, and not have them taken away without a judge's written order, to allow internet providers to sell the data information of their customers' internet usage to businesses, a 20 week ban on abortion, and voted for the repeal of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Alas, Scott Taylor ended up being undone by a scandal that is becoming all-too-common for modern Republicans, and that is their inability to find people willing to sign a petition to put them on a ballot, and hiring staffers to do it who are too lazy, and prefer to just forge them. Dozens of people in Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District came forward to say, “I SIGNED WHAT?” Other folks didn’t say anything about having signed Taylor’s petition, as it’s hard for the press to get a quote out of anyone who is, y’know DEAD. Thus, Taylor was forced to have to sue to keep his name on the ballot, at all, and ended up losing in his 2018 re-election effort with only 48% of the vote against Democrat Elaine Luria. Three staffers involved in forging signatures have been indicted for far. Rather than Scott Taylor trying to avenge that loss of his House seat after a scandal of that magnitude… he briefly decided to instead run for U.S. Senate to challenge Democratic Senator Mark Warner. But after initial polling showed that Taylor would get boat-raced by Warner, he opted to try to get his seat in the House back but got turned back by an even larger margin than in the Blue Wave election year. As he now is out of office and seems unlikely to reclaim it, we will set aside his profile at this time, however, to cover another wacky Republican today instead. (Current crazy/stupid scoreboard, is now 1037-50, since this was established in July 2014.

    Tricia Flanagan

Welcome to what is the 1037th original profile here at “Fanatical Republican Extremist of the Day”, where we’ll be profiling Tricia Flanagan, who was a candidate for U.S. Senate in New Jersey in both 2018 as well as 2020, failing to advance out of the GOP Primary in both those years, and now in 2022, she’s planning a run for U.S. House of Representatives in New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District as a challenger to Democratic incumbent Andrew Kim. During her 2020 campaign for U.S. Senate, though, Flanagan responded to support from a Qanon account by telling them, “ThanQ, which might seem pretty tame given some of the support GOP candidates gave to the conspiracy theory, but sit tight, she’s… escalating her status quickly.

Flanagan launched her 2022 Congressional campaign by releasing an ad where she declared that Congressman Andy Kim, who is Asian American, “is not one of us. The irony of her saying something so blatantly racist to a constituency is also hypocritical, given an investigation has revealed she does not even live in the district she is challenging him in.

Her current campaign strategy includes going to Donald Trump’s Bedminster club to beg for money, spreading election fraud conspiracy theories, claims that under the Biden administration Christians have come “under attack (Biden is Catholic), attacking Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg for taking paternity leave as a gay adoptive father of two, and of course, Covid-19 conspiracy theories.

We are, frankly, exhausted of the never-ending line of white nationalist conspiracy theorists running for office as Republicans at this point, and hope she doesn’t just lose, but that she loses badly.

"Twists and turns" is quite the way to consider the consistent evidence for over a century that masks and vaccines work. They've got a pretty established track record.

We've also seen what large numbers of pro-plague idiots can manage on large groups even before COVID hit thanks to some other McCarthy. Diseases I had never heard of outside of school lessons started to make a comeback.
