Well I hope the lack of any link other than a MotherJones one means it was taken care of.

Because it would not be a more nuanced way to bring across her point, which I thought your argument was. Maybe I misread it.

Could someone please explain to me why the situation in Ukraine is such a mess that could devolve into a possible war?

I don't get it myself. Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014 or so and they are still occupying their land.

They're still fighting in the Donbas region which started in 2014 I think? The representatives of the separatists say their people want to secede, Kyiv says no we must stay unified. And the military-industrial complex is pleased, making a ton of money as the US/Nato and Russia continue to send weapons into Ukraine.

Companies unexpectedly cut 301,000 jobs in January as omicron slams labor market, ADP says
    https://www.cnbc.com/2022/02/02/adp-...uary-2022.html

Private payrolls fell by 301,000 for January versus the estimate for a 200,000 gain, according to payrolls processing firm ADP.

This was the first reported net job less since December 2020 and came as surging omicron cases hit hiring.

The pandemic-sensitive leisure and hospitality industry was the hardest hit, losing 154,000 jobs.

CNN boss Jeff Zucker resigns, says he failed to disclose office relationship
    https://www.cnbc.com/2022/02/02/cnn-...ationship.html

CNN President Jeff Zucker resigned after revealing he failed to disclose what he called a “consensual relationship with my closest colleague” during a probe of Chris Cuomo at the network.

The New York Times identified the woman as Allison Gollust, executive vice president and chief marketing officer for CNN Worldwide.

Gollust previously served as communications director for former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who is the older brother of Chris Cuomo.

What do you know, the likely heir to the Republican throne has just as much trouble condemning Nazi's as the previous supreme leader.

And we are being gaslit to believe they are not gerrymandering to take away Democratic votes.

Despite the political and cultural progressivism of the city, the state’s GOP, as part of the redistricting process, has ensured that the residents of the metro area will be joined with (and outnumbered by) rural folks 50 or even 80 miles away.

Putin would like to create mischief in Ukraine that perhaps increases Russia's control of still more territory in that country, but that perhaps more importantly causes dissension within NATO and weakens the alliance. He did not need to do that during the Trump administration, since then it was the USA that was causing dissension within NATO and weakening the alliance. (Trump didn't like the concept of alliances very much, since it conflicts with his policy of "America first" nationalism, and he specifically questioned the value of NATO's existence.) IMHO, of course.

Well, it stands to reason DeSantis wouldn’t denounce those Nazis, like his big boss Trump, he needs their support.

And thanks to everyone for their opinions on Ukraine.

Here's a Michigan GOP State Senate candidate I've profiled before, Mike Detmer, who now is advising Michigan Republicans to show up armed at the polls and prepare to "lock and load" if things don't go their way. At the same event, GOP Gubernatorial candidate Ryan Kelley (who I have in my queue for his palling around with militia/domestic terror groups) told voters to "unplug voting machines" if they "see something going on".

The Republican Party is an authoritarian, anti-democracy, party preaching violence. This is who they are.

And did you see this one, WBE?

    https://talkingpointsmemo.com/mornin...od-put-them-in

Michigan GOP gubernatorial candidate Garrett Soldano has some truly egregious beliefs about abortion, according to an interview with right-wing podcaster April Moss earlier this month that was unearthed by a progressive publication, Heartland Signal, yesterday.

Instead of letting survivors of rape get abortions, “how about we start inspiring women in the culture to let them understand and know how heroic they are, and how unbelievable that they are, that God put them in this moment?” Soldano suggested.
Soldano emphasized a need to “defend the DNA” at conception because people who want abortions might end up killing the next Mother Teresa. “They don’t know,” he said. “That little baby inside them may be the next president, may be the next person who changes humanity.”

Putin thought the West was weaker than it was and overplayed his hand. Problem is that he's a strongman and backing down would make him look weak, exacerbating any issues he has on the domestic front.

He was hoping that his latest but of brinkmanship would fracture NATO even further, but instead it seems to have strengthened it, and the way he governs doesn't give him much of an out.

Sounds like Putin hoped the fracturing Trump caused with NATO would continue even after he left office. Big mistake on his part it looks like.
