Like so many, I would not be surprised if she believed that her uncle didn't stand a chance in heck to actually win. Perhaps there were also other personal and family pressures that kept her from writing this until now.

Trump having mocked that disabled reporter at one of his rallies should’ve been the dealbreaker, but those people not only ignored his ugliness, they embraced it.

I wouldn't have wanted to be in her position. If Trump lost, as many predicted he would (perhaps even Trump himself), he would have devoted his energy to punishing her.

Now Trump's got so many people who hate him, he can't focus on her.

That's my question too. We live in a country where mass shootings are a common enough occurrence that asking this question is not silly.

What's "Wider"?

I'd imagine that a lot of the country is willing to accept(and potentially deal with...) the issues that come with flawed policing as long as they get that flawed policing.

This past Sunday, news broke that the president’s niece, Mary Trump, was on track to publish a “harrowing and salacious” book this summer about her world-famous uncle. By Sunday night, the president had been privately briefed on what he could expect from the upcoming book. By Tuesday, he had begun discussing siccing his lawyers on his niece.

According to two people familiar with the situation, Donald Trump has told people close to him that he’s getting his lawyers to look into the Mary Trump matter, to explore what could be done in the way of legal retribution—or at least a threat—likely in the form of a cease and desist letter. One of the sources with knowledge of the situation said that in the past couple of days, the president appeared irked by news of her book and at one point mentioned that Mary had signed an NDA years ago.

That makes even more sense than "Waiting to actually cash in..." as far as where she was.

A disaster waiting to happen. It might work in many communities, but not everywhere. Whoever gets to decide who need to kicked out and who gets kicked out become the defacto "police" replacement and they may become magnet for criminals and gangs to take control of so they can do their business out of sight of authorities. If the community itself can't kick them out they'll become the defacto police in that space, organised crime is really good at taking advantage of power vacuums in communities.
