Russians can vote whoever they want if they don't agree on the government they have, but I never voted for anyone who would take us back to the old regime. We already had a dictatorship around here, tank you very much. Did you?
Those companies are not monopolies. You can sign up at Parler, GAB, Truth Social, Myspace etc instead.

Wait, wait, was this actually said with a straight face?

Well, technically Putin controls elections by abusing the law rather than the election directly. Gain enough popularity, get arrested. And I'm sure his nearly total control over the media helps too.

So one is free to vote, but not free to be voted for.

Electoral fraud is widely known to be rampant too.

I am more familiar with seeing any potential contender charged, jailed, and declared ineligible to run by the courts - a rule by law rather than a rule of law that we mostly (or somewhat) live under outside of Russia. I didn't think Putin left enough air for the opposition to have to worry about the actual election.

Maria Alyokhina, a member of Pussy Riot who remained under house arrest after her time in jail, managed to flee Russia yesterday. She and her girlfriend disguised as food delivery messengers to trick the police observers.

    I'm gonna have a stroke.

    S. Senator Steve Daines, a Republican from Montana, invoked protections for "pre-born" sea turtles while arguing against a bill that would protect abortion rights by codifying Roe v. Wade.

Democratic Senate leadership are planning to force a vote to codify Roe following last week's leak of a draft decision indicating that the Supreme Court's conservative majority is poised to overturn the landmark abortion rights decision. While speaking out against the bill from the Senate floor on Tuesday, Daines compared federal laws to protect the eggs of endangered sea turtles to the human reproductive rights legal landscape under Roe.

"If you were to take or destroy the eggs of a sea turtle," Daines said while standing next to a poster pitting images of sea turtles "vs." human babies, "the criminal penalties are severe... Why do we have laws in place that protect the eggs of a sea turtle or the eggs of eagles? Because when you destroy an egg, you're killing a pre-born baby sea turtle or a pre-born baby eagle."

We consider humans and endangered/ threatened species to be more valuable. Eggs and grown chickens are food.

To quote, again, from George Carlin, "How come with us it's an abortion, but with chickens, it's an omelet?"

I thought that chicken eggs we buy from the market are unfertilized?

Doesn't have an impact on if she cares about what happens to them once they're born, but great job in jumping to conclusions
