The police do not “protect and serve” the people. They protect and serve the ruling class. Their role in our capitalist society is not to bring justice—but to enforce order. They exist solely to maintain racist power structures & preserve our capitalist system.

Bingo. Police Have No Duty to Protect the Public.

    https://prospect.org/justice/police-...ct-the-public/

Police reform activists have posited that the purpose of policing is not to protect the public, but instead to maintain the status quo that keeps capitalism alive. The first modern-day police were slave catchers; their only interest was your body for their profit. Whatever their true purpose, the legal fact remains that public benefits from policing are incidental, at best.

Yes Johnny won. but it was too late to get his job in Fantastic Beasts back. He at least will get some compensation from his ex-wife, if she didn't spend all the money already.

Given how she is with cash so far with the ACLU and the Children's hospital, I wouldn't be surprised if she "Pledged" it to him over paying it.

America Had 3 Simultaneous Shootings On Wednesday, Less Than 2 Weeks After Uvalde

As residents in Uvalde, Texas, were burying their children and loved ones this week, Americans in three separate states watched shootings unfold simultaneously in the latest deadly spate of gun violence that has become a uniquely American problem.

Four people were killed in a shooting at a medical building in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Wednesday. Police said a gunman carrying a rifle and a handgun opened fire on a hospital campus just before 5 p.m. local time, wounding several others before the shooter died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Just before, the Los Angeles Police Department said shots were fired outside Grant High School in the Van Nuys neighborhood. Authorities said an unknown gunman fired three or four shots from a vehicle. A 10th grader was shot in the leg and taken to the hospital. The extent of injuries was unclear.

Across the country, police said a 20-year-old woman was shot at a nail salon in Pittston Township, Pennsylvania, in what police said was an “attempted homicide.” The woman was taken to an area hospital, and the extent of her injuries was unknown. A suspect was in custody later Wednesday evening.
I predict "Thoughts and prayers" aplenty from Qpublicans this morning.

As someone who barely knows anything about the whole affaire, I just want to remind two truths:
    — we don’t know at all the actors, these people whose job is to act, we are used to see their faces but a large part of their life is unknown to us;
    — the justice has rendered its verdict but it doesn’t negate the very real subject of violence against women which is much more wide spread around the world than mass shootings in the US.
“Strength is the lot of but a few privileged men; but austere perseverance, harsh and continuous, may be employed by the smallest of us and rarely fails of its purpose, for its silent power grows irresistibly greater with time.” Goethe

Depp was already a train wreck before the Amber Heard fiasco.

He couldn’t remember his lines and was showing up late for shooting.

He’s won the defamation trial but his career won’t suddenly bounce back from his own weaknesses.

He was commanding a blockbuster paycheck without delivering blockbuster results, I think outside of the Potter franchise, the producers merely saw a convenient excuse to drop him rather than anything else.

    This is... troubling:

Utah County sheriff, attorney spar over investigation of 'ritual sex abuse'

Leavitt called a press conference Wednesday morning after the Utah County Sheriff’s Office told the media the night prior that it is investigating a child sex abuse ring that operated in Utah, Juab, and Sanpete counties between 1990 and 2010.

At the press conference, Leavitt announced that he and his wife were subjects of a child sex abuse investigation approximately 10 years ago, but claimed those allegations were totally untrue.

    ...

At a hastily-called press conference Wednesday afternoon, Sheriff Smith said Leavitt has his facts wrong.

Smith said the ritual sex abuse investigation involves more than just the case where Leavitt said he and his wife were accused.

“Several times, Mr. Leavitt named himself and mentioned cannibalism and murder. This investigation is about child sex abuse,” Smith said. “I take exception to any victim coming forward and being categorized as ‘tragically mentally ill’. How dare you. These are victims of crimes who have mustered the courage to come forward and this is what you call them? Mentally ill. How dare you.”
Leavitt previously ran for election for Attorney General of Utah. He lost in the Republican primary on June 30, 2020.

He is 59 years old this month.

If he cannot find any jobs within his acting career anymore, then he ought to find a new job like entering politics. Maybe he can run for governorship of California like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronald Reagan unless he has a criminal record.

Yep, a lot of studios just wanted to move beyond him.

The whole Amber Heard just provided an excuse for them to get rid of him.

Speaking of Heard, what about her status as Mera in the Aquaman sequel? I thought I heard talk that the studio considered writing her out of the movie because of the trial, or, was that all bs?
