I know we all knew this was coming due to the leak, but the conspiracy theorist in me thinks that the Supreme Court decided to release this opinion today to completely overshadow the gun bill being passed by the house. I know it's not likely, but nobody will be talking about that bill when the court is stripping away rights.

I don't blame Hillary or RBG at all, but I do blame people who said the Supreme Court issue was overblown in 2016. I think it's fair game to resurrect those tweets. No one (except Susan Collins) should be surprised that Trump appointed justices who would do this.
Eh, I can blame Hillary and RBG a little. Hillary didn't campaign as hard as she could have in swing states, thinking there was no way the majority of Americans would elect Trump (which they didn't, but she still lost anyway). And RBG was so hung up on having a female President choose her replacement, that she didn't get out when she could guarantee a Democratic President could be assured to do that (which, admittedly, would have been in the very first half of Obama's Presidency. But it's not like she didn't have health scares before that). But honestly, the majority of blame for me is on those who didn't vote for Hillary due to stupid, petty reasons. I worked with a woman who voted for the Green Party candidate instead, because- and I quote- "Hillary really seemed like a bitch to me."

The conspiracy theorist in me says Ginni Thomas leaked the opinion in March to lock in Kavanaugh as a full end it vote.

Yeah, Unfortunately, RBG got caught up in the hype and possibility of Hillary becoming President and people felt she was being selfish for not stepping down earlier

I'm pro-choice but I can understand the reasoning behind pro-life. Banning contraception, same sex marriages/relationships just makes no sense though. Not in today's world.

Justice Thomas: SCOTUS ‘should reconsider’ contraception, same-sex marriage rulings

Justice Clarence Thomas argued in a concurring opinion released on Friday that the Supreme Court “should reconsider” its past rulings codifying rights to contraception access, same-sex relationships and same-sex marriage.

The sweeping suggestion from the current court’s longest-serving justice came in the concurring opinion he authored in response to the court’s ruling revoking the constitutional right to abortion, also released on Friday.

In his concurring opinion, Thomas — an appointee of President George H.W. Bush — wrote that the justices “should reconsider all of this Court’s substantive due process precedents, including Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell” — referring to three cases having to do with Americans’ fundamental privacy, due process and equal protection rights.

Since May, when POLITICO published an initial draft majority opinion of the court’s decision on Friday to strike down Roe v. Wade, Democratic politicians have repeatedly warned that such a ruling would lead to the reversal of other landmark privacy-related cases.

It does make sense when you get to the root of the matter. The hiding behind religion and forcing it to legislate people's lives. That is what all those have in common. These conservatives "don't like it", bible blah blah.

That is the inherent danger of letting any of these ultra religious types get power. And then waiting and waiting to react until they hit the issue you draw the line at as a voter is silly. It is a slippery slope now pushing us backwards for generations.

I mean wait till they get to porn.

I can't believe 5 people can take a call of this level affecting millions. Seems like a chapter out of Baby's First Dystopian Novel.

Never mind that the GOP blocked Obamas nominee. never mind that RGB refused to retire because she wanted a woman to name her replacement. So if we blame Hillary part of the blame must also fall on RGB.
True. Republicans are the most culpable here. Unfortunately, the only way we can defeat them is by having as many people on board to accomplish this task as possible. Garland and RBG would have been moot if more people had made different decisions in 2016.

There is plenty of blame to go around, though. Many seem to care more about absolving themselves than see the connections of what happened today to their actions. I liken it to Julius Caesar. All of the Senators are standing around the dead body blaming each other because somebody else struck first or held a bigger blade, or whatever, but not seeing their own part in all of it. It's scary because if somebody cannot see how this is a direct result of their (and others like them) actions in 2016, they will likely repeat the same behavior this year, in 2024, etc. Ultimately, we can only control our own actions, though.

Most of the states which will now be banning abortions are the same ones with the highest maternal mortality rates. Here are the top 10 in the U.S.:

    Louisiana (58.1 per 100k)
    Georgia (48.4 per 100k)
    Indiana (43.6 per 100k)
    New Jersey (38.1 per 100k)
    Arkansas (37.5 per 100k)
    Alabama (36.4 per 100k)
    Missouri (34.6 per 100k)
    Texas (34.5 per 100k)
    South Carolina (27.9 per 100k)
    Arizona (27.3 per 100k)

This decision will disproportionately affect women of color, as they are 3 times more likely to die from complications of childbirth in this country.

They are doing that for NOW.....

All this had done is really bring the minority to majority into a faster reality.

How many more women are going to be KILLED by the man that did not want a kid but she got pregnant?

How many women will now die from pregnancies that they were advised to NOT have???

Whose birth rate now increases? White (which is what they want) or Black (what they don't want)?

I can't help but think this has to do with the Jan. 6 hearings, Trumps criminal activity and the implications of Congressional and Senatorial involvement in the planning leading up to the riot.
Many Republican voters will go from apprehension and questioning their allegiance to the party to feeling appreciation and affirmation in their support. This and the gun rights decision yesterday lead me there.
Throwing their voters a couple of bones to keep them loyal and engaged.
