And let's not mince words, DeSantis is a straight up bigot, from anti Trans to anti Gay to the banning of African-American studies. He is either a bigot and racist, or wants to keep those people's support. Probably both. Why give this vile man the benefit of the doubt?

Because we should never be wrong when it comes to serious allegations. And using racial slurs is a serious allegation, with greater social and professional penalties than many crimes.
It seems worse for someone's reputation than drunk driving, just to give an example.
This isn't about the reactions of others. It's how you want others to react. If someone really believes that black people are inferior, their spouses should leave them and take the kids. Right?
Sincerely,

Because he supports their platform -- plain and simple.
With regards to all of the gaslighting and selective ignorance, it's exactly what it appears to be and nothing more.
When you can't defend something the only other option is to pretend it doesn't exist -- or to deflect by claiming that said notations are personal attacks rather than objective observations.
Edit: In reality the best option is to admit the deep-seated failings within said platform and then to address those directly rather than trying to convice people that said bigotry and fascist behavior is politically acceptable but that option no longer seems to be within Republican reason, so here we are a year after an attempted coup on our democracy by the last Republican president with people still supporting said party.

His policies are bigoted and racist, flat out, full stop. There is no benefit of the doubt here, he promotes a racist and bigoted agenda. I don't worry about being wrong. I worry about the Fascist becoming President.
And why would you think his wife isn't a racist and bigoted too. Have you seen many of the spouses leave the racists from your Party?

Uh, no. Not if their spouses feel the same way.
Sometimes it does happen that a spouse realizes just how messed up the person they married is and they leave because they don't agree with them. However, majority of people, and whose marriages remain intact for the long haul, marry people who share similar POVs about many things.
It doesn't matter how I or anyone else WANTS people to react, people react the way they do for their own, individual, reasons.
Thing is, if someone acts in ways that are biased, bigoted, or worse, how people respond to them says more about those people than anything else. You can't judge a person's bias based on the way those closest to them reacts. You judge a person's bias based on how they act and react.
Sometimes manure comes in a burlap bag surrounded by other burlap bags. Sometimes it comes packaged nicely, in attractive boxes. The only way to know for sure what is inside without getting too close is to smell it.

Hey, did you all hear about that mass shooting today?
No, silly! Not THAT one! The OTHER ONE:
A dozen people are wounded in an early morning Louisiana nightclub shooting
But, you know. Thoughts and prayers.Gunfire erupted inside a Louisiana night club early Sunday, wounding 12 people in a "targeted attack" and yet another U.S. mass shooting, authorities said.
The bloodshed at Dior Bar & Lounge in Baton Rouge unfolded at about 1:36 a.m. CT, police said, less than an hour after 10 people were gunned down at a Southern California dance hall about 1,800 miles west.
All 12 who were shot were taken to hospitals by ambulance or private cars, Baton Rouge Police Sgt. L’Jean McKneely Jr. said in a statement.
Nine of the victims will survive this attack but three suffered wounds that were“life-threatening in nature,” Lt. Bryan Ballard told reporters.
A possible motive for the attack at 4619 Bennington Ave. wasn’t immediately disclosed.
“At this point we can say that it is believed to be targeted attack," said Ballard, commander of the BRPD's Homicide Division. "No this was not just a random act of someone showing up and randomly shooting citizens of Baton Rouge."
“These senseless, preventable shooting tragedies are emblematic of America’s ongoing gun violence crisis,” Shannon Watts, founder of anti-gun violence group Moms Demand Action, said in statement to NBC News on Sunday.
“We don’t have to live like this, and our loved ones should never die like this. We must demand our leaders lead and act at all levels to address our nation’s gun violence epidemic.”
Because the right-wing media have trained Republicans to reflexively reject accusations of bigotry, with not one of them being brave enough to draw a line in the sand to stand up against intolerance.
By this point, hatred for "the other" is a party plank. It's not a negative, it's a trait they actively seek out in their chosen candidates, and they will argue against all reason against the evidence of their inherent bigotry.
It's endemic of a party that has become a white nationalist, anti-gay, anti-woman party (who will gaslight us and refuse to acknowledge what they've clearly become).

We could sit and "debate" these issues with Republicans/Conservatives ad infinitum but past experience shows that gets us nowhere.
In the meantime, we now live under the control of a right-wing Supreme Court because many Americans felt Hilary's emails were worse than Trump's overt racist bigotry -- as a result, any real efforts to address these issues directly will likely be stifled, if not made wholly illegal, under their jurisdiction.
More likely many Americans simply saw said racist bigotry as a welcome course correction after the Obama administration saved this nation from the previous Republican president's equally fascist and internationally destructive behavior -- electing the very same overtly bigoted individual who dishonestly accused Obama of being born in Kenya over far more moderate Republican candidates -- but no matter how you look at it, there is a serious issue with white supremacist and Christian fundamentalist thought being deeply embedded into this nation's very foundation.
Until that is addressed directly, they will always be able to manipulate many racist and/or evangelical voters via hatred and fear while simultaneously trying to claim the moral high ground by never examining their own failings.
