Biden tripped again today. I have to admit, I'm surprised how quickly he can get up, at his age, after one of his tumbles. I'm sure conservative media is going to have a field day today.

This Post Contains No Artificial Intelligence. It Contains No Human Intelligence Either.
That’s unlikely to happen for the simple reason that political evangelicals depend on self-righteousness to justify their “heard choices”… and Trump went too far all over the place for any “hold you nose” evangelical to not recognize that, and then grab onto denial with both hands.
Like action, adventure, rogues, and outlaws? Like anti-heroes, femme fatales, mysteries and thrillers?
I wrote a book with them. Outlaw’s Shadow: A Sherwood Noir. Robin Hood’s evil counterpart, Guy of Gisbourne, is the main character. Feel free to give it a look: https://read.amazon.com/kp/embed?asi...E2PKBNJFH76GQP
First we're hearing about it.
Yeah, that seems an odd thing to throw into a criticism of what is supposed to be an all-ages appropriate movie.
Honestly and openly?
Conservative parents need to let go of the idea that they can and should dictate the ways in which their children will grow up to express and enjoy their sexuality with other consenting adults.
Right. This. This right here. Are you seriously trying to suggest that this is the one and only reason why a decent person would think it's morally reprehensible to cast a vote for Ron DeSantis in any election? Do you honestly think, after all that's been said about his policies and actions, that this is what it boils down to?
Give. Me. A fucking. Break. The specifics have been pinpointed, the outrageous statements have been quoted, over and over and over again. We're not being evasive, we're just refusing to answer the same question for the tenth goddamn time so you can go ahead and ask it an eleventh, like it never happened.
No. There isn't one single thing. There's at least a half dozen things that man says and does on a good day that cross the line of what any decent human being should support in a candidate.
Yeah, because that's definitely where it's going to end. It's not like they're making laws to jail librarians who give kids access to books that the Christian Reich have deemed unacceptable, or anything. (I've already posted a link to support that, I'm not doing it again).
Thank you for indicating that your previous post is something you feel that people who may disagree with you should read and take seriously.
I suspect you're referring to Senate Bill 254.
There are some complaints here about what it means for adults, and this is a different argument about what permanent procedures are appropriate for minors, so I'm going to focus on that aspect.
The main implications about health care for adults are that various funding programs will not cover gender-affirming care, and that are additional regulatory hurdles including an in-person visit with a physician.
https://support.folxhealth.com/hc/en...enate-Bill-254
That doesn't really seem like Nazi shit. I can fully appreciate that a description of a regulatory hurdle doesn't match an individual's lived experiences, and there may be reasons this specific thing is worse than it seems.
Sincerely,
Thomas Mets
Well he wound up focusing on a tiny fragment of the post to invalidate/ignore/sweep all the rest under the rug. I guess he feels it is not the fault of the Governor who has created and encouraged such an Anti-LGBT fervor in this state, that there is such an Anti-LGBT fervor in this state. That post also shows an utter disregard for the struggles Panfoot and others have to go through in this state when it does so, many of which have been manufactured by Ron DeSantis & Florida Republicans (EX: There are no such regulatory hurdles for Viagra/Diabetes Meds/Plastic Surgery unrelated to Trans/etc). It passes off such deliberate & targeted Anti-LGBT prejudice as something that shouldn't stop a vote for DeSantis by anyone who considers themselves a "Moderate" or an individual with empathy for others being made to suffer because of a single politician's desire for power.
And once again, that is only one single aspect of this hateful human being and the debate is being focused on just one aspect because there is no rational way to debate against all of the serious and legitimate issues he has that should invalidate this person from being anywhere near the presidency. Instead all we get is more evasions, ignoring of evidence, and probably continuing accusations of refusing to provide evidence which was already provided & ignored.

That's a fucking lie.

That's one way of looking at it.Yeah, that seems an odd thing to throw into a criticism of what is supposed to be an all-ages appropriate movie.

What one person thinks is a good way to talk about masturbation, sex work or mindful porn habits is going to drive others off the wall, and this is relevant for discussions about curriculums and public funding for libraries.
And there will be disagreement from people who think institutions should support conformity. There will always be plenty of conformists out there.Conservative parents need to let go of the idea that they can and should dictate the ways in which their children will grow up to express and enjoy their sexuality with other consenting adults.
If I take people here literally, that is past where some people have drawn the line. One view is that any anti-lgbtq+ legislation should be too much for others.Right. This. This right here. Are you seriously trying to suggest that this is the one and only reason why a decent person would think it's morally reprehensible to cast a vote for Ron DeSantis in any election? Do you honestly think, after all that's been said about his policies and actions, that this is what it boils down to?
I'm not obligated to steelman people's views here, and come up with a better argument than what they're willing to articulate.
Some of those things have been exaggerated.Give. Me. A fucking. Break. The specifics have been pinpointed, the outrageous statements have been quoted, over and over and over again. This response would also support my point, since you're not saying the specific things that you're opposed to, which might be useful for any lurkers here just reading about current events.
The idea that the law may go further is different from the claim that this is where the law has already gone.Yeah, because that's definitely where it's going to end. It's not like they're making laws to jail librarians who give kids access to books that the Christian Reich have deemed unacceptable, or anything. (I've already posted a link to support that, I'm not doing it again).

God, Mets. You're not doing yourself any favors. Just stop. I always kind of figured you'd walk yourself into supporting DeSantis but this is ridiculous.

The Senate passed the debt ceiling bill. Major Biden win, so I am expecting his approval rating to drop even further.

Hillary was right!
Meanwhile, while we're all being accused of 'exagerating' the 'problems' with DeSantis so Mets can lull himself to sleep at night, here are things that are actually happened, propelled by republican bigotry.

Adjusting hormone levels are vital in *any* homone medication. Restricting trans access to this is utterly unnecessary.
https://twitter.com/ErinInTheMorn/st...52646193467393
Like Erin says in the link above, we here pointed out how these laws would be used to silence trans people, and now we see that starting to occur.
But we're all just exaggerating so some people can justify continuing to vote for the bigotry because conservative discomfort is more important than anything else and their feelings just need to be protected.
I knew this would happen. For the record, for anyone who may not know, understand, or realized this for themselves - Trans people and people in drag are NOT the same thing!!!
Drag is when people who identify as their assigned gender at birth choose to wear clothing associated with the opposite gender, for whatever reason. Which luckily most of us realize is a perfectly fine and okay thing, is not some depraved activity, does not have to be hyper sexualized, and is fine for most children to know exists and see because again does not have to be inherently sexual. But the important thing here is that these men and women still identify as their biological sex. And let's be honest, it's only when men dress as women that the right has a problem with, and not the women who dress as men drag performers. And this is mostly just further homophobia that they're bother by it, since most (but not all) people who choose to perform in drag are gay.
Trans people however identify as the gender opposite of their birth gender, opposite of their biological sex. When they wear clothing of the opposite gender it isn't a "performance" like drag, it isn't crossdressing, it's because trans men are men and trans women are women! And yes, early on in transition before the hormones have had much if any noticeable effect in appearance it may visually look the same or similar to drag, but it's not because again trans people just want to live their lives as the gender they truly are inside, and not as the one society demands because of a chance of mere chromosomes. And just like with drag, it is largely biological men wanting to dress feminine that conservatives largely have the problem with, because it either offends their fragile masculinity or discomforts them sexually - but again it's all homophobia/transphobia (the two are closely related).
So, to recap - both drag performers and trans people are valid, not inherently sexually obscene for children, just wanting to express themselves, and despite those and visual similarities, are not the same! Trans people don't wear drag to pride events or at lgbt places or events, trans people wear drag every time they have to blend in with the cis-normative community so they can just get through the day in peace. When a trans woman wears men's jeans, men's shirt, men's shoes, and act masculine in public to avoid getting hassled and harassed, that's drag!

Here's a moment from Markwayne Mullin, one of WBE's old friends!
https://www.yahoo.com/news/republica...063946490.htmlSen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) had an awkward moment during a committee hearing on Wednesday when he outright rejected reality during a combative exchange on children’s education.
Mullin was ticked over a children’s book on racism called “Our Skin: A First Conversation About Race” and said it’s better to teach children the lyrics to “Jesus Loves Me” instead.
He interrupted and spoke over the panelists as they tried to answer his question during the hearing held by the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, which is chaired by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).
One panelist’s attempt to reply led to a memorable exchange.
“First, it is important that we teach Jesus, and Jesus is what we teach,” said Cheryl Morman, president of the Virginia Alliance for Family Child Care Associations. “But the reality is―”
She was cut off by Mullin, but Sanders interjected.
“Could she answer the question, please,” Sanders said.
Mullin was unswayed.
“No, I don’t want reality,” he blurted out.
The room erupted in laughter.
“Got it on tape,” someone said amid the laughter.
“Misspoke,” Mullin replied with a shrug:
