But after I first wrote about him, I received a flurry of emails, many from North Carolinians who will be his constituents if Cawthorn wins his general election race against his Democratic opponent, Moe Davis. These constituents told me that there was more to know about Cawthorn than his hatred of socialism, his eyebrow-raising legal battles, and his penchant for posting vacation photos with distasteful captions—including a joke he made about conquering Mexican restaurants in the same way that conquistadors conquered “entire civilizations,” and another about the fulfillment of his dream of seeing the vacation home of, as he put it, the “Führer.” (The experience, he wrote, “did not disappoint.”) “Strange to hear so many laughs and share such a good time with my brother where only 79 years ago a supreme evil shared laughs and good times with his compatriots,” Cawthorn mused in the caption of the latter Instagram post, which featured a photo of him and his brother smiling widely in front of the Eagle’s Nest, where Adolf Hitler vacationed in Berchtesgaden.
Cawthorn paints himself as a promising young man with plans to become a Marine until the 2014 car accident that left him partially paralyzed. “He planned on serving his country in the Navy with a nomination to the U.S. Naval Academy,” one of his campaign ads states, until “tragedy struck.” Almost every single news article about Cawthorn mentions that he was nominated to the Naval Academy by his former boss Mark Meadows, now White House Chief of Staff; it’s easy to then assume that he was accepted by the Naval Academy. But it turns out, according to a 2017 deposition Cawthorn gave as part of his unsuccessful lawsuit seeking $30 million from the auto insurance company that had already paid him $3 million, he was actually rejected by the Naval Academy, and was informed of his rejection before his car accident.

    Harris is a smart choice.

The mythical Republican voter that switches to Dem during the general election is clearly not the focus here. What’s important is getting the minority vote that was way down in 2016.

The African-American vote was down to a 20 year low in 2016 and if Hilary had gotten just fraction more of the black vote, we wouldn’t be dealing with Trump right now. Clearly it’s something the democrats have noted and want to avoid again.

No drama, no surprises seem to be a Biden campaign thing. Maybe being 'exciting' isn't all that it's cracked up to be.

Biden definitely learned a few things from his old boss.

May I introduce you to Nikki Haley:

It wouldn't surprise me if a jealous Trump, desperate to regain the headlines, dumps Mike Pence for her, and Haley would jump onboard in a heartbeat.

Haley has already blamed a slow delivery on the company rather than the crap being done to the Postal Service. So she has the ability to ignore reality and blame the victim down pat.

I don't think there are many Republicans who vote for Democratic candidates except under unique circumstances - but there are right leaning independents who might be more likely to do so. The trick is to connect with them while not alienating the Democratic base. Harris is one of the best chances to do that - and her Senate replacement will be picked by another Democrat, which will be crucial if Biden wins.

She seems like she's evolved a bit. The NYT ran a piece on her record a few days ago, mentioning her going toe to to with Rand Paul over the anti-lynching bill, and that she supports several reforms on policing, including bans on chokeholds, racial profiling, and no knock warrants. The latter, specifically, she's been very vocal about the murder of Breonna Taylor by Louisville PD, and that she feels those cops should be charged.

Overall, the "KAMALA IS A COP" meme seems more like it's shades of grey.
