I've decided that when I get home months morning I am going to order "It Was All A Lie". I just read Schmidt's reply to Ted Cruz (concerning Rubio) and.....damn.

SCOOP: All mail employees are now getting memos telling them not to speak to the press under any circumstances and to be suspicious of any customer who asks "a series of questions"

Even Fox News pundits were commending Biden on his speech. The only people I've seen who even gave it mild criticism were Nina Turner on CNN (who still is in the tank for Bernie, as Bernie's endorsing harder than I've ever seen him endorse anyone), and Donald Trump, Jr.

Best comment I saw, "Gee, wouldn't it be terrible if the Trump 2020 campaign had spent the past several months running on Biden being 'diminished' and unable to give a great speech anymore?"

A standard joke among Republicans is: When do you think the lockdown, masks and social distancing will end? Trump's allies are being systematically targeted on bogus accusations to make him look bad or, even if everything is true, he's still the only thing stopping the baby murderers and the world government plan which is evil and predicted in the Bible (which is really a clandestine reference to Ancient Rome in reality, btw).

Anyway, I'm not kidding. This isn't Conservative extremism anymore. This insanity is getting to be the average Republican based on just about every conservative I know.

I kind of think it's because we are at a cultural crossroads. Gay rights, Trans rights, genuine equal justice under the law regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation or sex/ gender and so on. To a lot of people my age, this must be their view of insanity. To me, it's making the nation live up to it's ideals as a reality. I remember a saying, that you don't convince people in mass to adapt to new ideas. Ideas change because generations die and are replaced by new people who accept new ideas. Eventually, they become the norm and reject the next set of new ideas but they die off to be replaced again.

Seriously, we have a generation of people for whom there's no such thing as evolution or climate change, who really believe people are treated equally regardless of race, who insist this is a Christian nation founded on Christian principles for Christians (regardless that there is written evidence to the contrary), that forced praying in schools is totally okay but only their religion, that nationalism (and let's call it what it is, an ancient tribalism mentality) in a world with our science and technology is a good thing, and on and on and on. They are called Conservatives/ Republicans.

I think a lot of their insanity is because this is their last stand. I certainly hope it is.
It’s a really good insight, thanks! And I think this is where posters like PwrdOn are both right and wrong. Right in the sense that there’s no decent chance that Democrats can swing the mythical moderate Republican because they have gone so far off the deep end and are delusional, but also wrong in the same vein because America is a right-wing/conservative country that will never accept leftist politics.

I dont think I am placating the forum to fit in. More often then not I stay away from this thread. I was just trying to explain that I really dont know as much as other people on here. My views are kind of all over the place because I am still learning. maybe after more research I will stay a conservative, maybe I will be more liberal, maybe somewhere in the middle. I just dont know yet. i do know that I very much dislike Trump because I feel he has ruined the party that I have been part of my whole life. THere were things I believed my whole life and have been told that I am seeing are not true, or not the way it was told to me and that is confusing. There are things I was told that I still do believe. I am just very unsure. Maybe it is odd for a 39 year old man to be so confused about this kind of stuff but for me it is pretty upsetting and I am trying to figure out just where I stand. Not trying to placte but trying to grow. There are some conservative views that I know I will not change on because I do believe in them strongly. Thee are some conservative views that are not as rock solid as I thought. I am tough on crime. I do believe in a strong police force. I support the police, change how some of the funding is used but do not cut their budget. I believe in strong well funded prisons. I dont like the idea of letting most criminals who are arrested out on no or low bail. Social programs or intervention over sentencing just arnt going to work out in most cases. Some cases yes but not most.
    Things like that.

I dont mean to apologize for my views but more for my lack of understanding on the issues or for letting fake news guide my views.

You’ve basically distilled all the reasons the GOP have won the popular vote in Presidential elections a grand total of ONCE in the last 28 years. They’re now accepting Qanon and all sort of insane garbage that anyone in their right mind should reject. Old school conservatism doesn’t really exist anymore, it’s all about owning the libs, discrimination against minorities and embracing conspiracy theories that even a fifth grader would find idiotic. Trump is basically modern conservatism come to life- unthinking, uninformed, cruel, ignorant, arrogant and bigoted.

Ultimately, these are the reasons i doubt the GOP can win the popular vote again in my lifetime. The Economist warned of the GOP becoming the “party of stupid” 18 years ago and that’s exactly what’s happened.

Let’s not forget the likes of Alex Jones, Rush Limbaugh and Faux News have contributed greatly to the dumbing down of Republicans as a whole while ramping up their paranoia and bottomless white grievance. The latter played a big part in this mess, whites see the country becoming more and more of a melting pot in terms of races, faiths and sexual orientation, none of which they can stomach, they see themselves as no longer being at the top of the societal food chain, and that frightens them, of course, as is always the case, people invariably hate what they fear. Trump tapped into all that hate and fear and rode it all the way to the Oval Office, now he’s weaponized both to use for his shot at a second term.

More than 70 former GOP national security officials endorse Biden for president

WASHINGTON — More than 70 former national security officials from the last several Republican administrations and other GOP officials endorsed Joe Biden for president on Thursday.

“While we — like all Americans — had hoped that Donald Trump would govern wisely, he has disappointed millions of voters who put their faith in him and has demonstrated that he is dangerously unfit to serve another term,” the former senior officials said in a statement released Thursday that was expected to run in The Wall Street Journal on Friday.

Either way, a potentially politically important chess piece has been removed from the game. Not to smart on Bannon's part, he should have known better.
I don't think the questions themselves are left leaning, but they are meant to provoke an emotional reaction regarding certain social values. The choices are to avoid people giving to many fence sitting answers. Which of course is the whole point I guess, to force people to choose a side.

    The Summer QAnon Went Mainstream

For the last several years, faithful adherents of QAnon have dared reporters to ask President Trump about the conspiracy. As a journalist who has interviewed Q fans in person and interacted with them on Twitter, I can tell you that this is where most such conservations eventually end. The anticipated moment where Trump would receive this question has been a longstanding dream of the community whose members believe, without proof or evidence, that President Trump is locked in a battle with deep state government bureaucrats over his attempts to bring down a cabal of elite liberal pedophiles.
It's as if H.P. Lovecraft, Adolf Hitler, Charles Manson, and Donald Trump collaborated to create a dark, disturbing, twisted, and dangerious version of Pokemon Go.
