The Democrats can't lose this opportunity. Seriously, a repeat of 2016 will be a disaster.
Fanning the flames of chaos and hate are his strategy. Trump wants civil unrest and he wants Americans to be scared and angry. After all he’s the “law and order” candidate. Trump and the GOP need undecided voters in swing states to think there is rioting and lawlessness rampant on the streets and only a authoritarian can stop it. It seems to be working as Trump’s odds of winning have recently gone up.

The country is at one of its lowest points in our history and we’re on the verge of a dictatorship and yet Trump still has a great chance of winning the election. This reminds me of the classic George Carlin line, “Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.” Basically we’re $&@%ed as a country.

The “Trump era” just exposed a lot of the electorate for it really is. Ignorant, hateful, averse to truth and resistant to knowledge. And we might get another 4 years of Trump because of it.

That happens whenever a Republican is president. Same thing with Reagan, Nixon and both Bushes. This is why it's nightmare for the Democrats to truly transform the country into something not terrible. As soon as they start to get somewhere, another Republican president wrecks it and the cycle repeats.

Absolutely true. Hate and fear are the only cards Trump has left to play. He's banking on voters being ignorant enough not to realize that the chaos and violence in the streets is all on him, not Biden, not the Democrats, not anyone else. Trump can't run on his record about the economy which he trashed with his hamfisted response to the virus that's killed nearly 190,000 people, again, on HIS WATCH, so he's resorting to scaring people into thinking he alone can save them. Meanwhile, I get it that Biden wants to be responsible and limit large scale campaigning events because of COVID, but he, Kamala and Democrats can't afford to play it safe now, they HAVE to get on the road and get out the message loud and clear that the real chaos bringer is Trump and how he'll destroy the country to save his ass.

Cory Booker is trending on Twitter because Trump is an idiot. Trump was desperately looking for a Black man to use to scare white suburbanites with.

Ohhh how scary.....please, he's one of the nicest guys in politics.

You'd think with all the civil unrest over police brutality that there would be a pause where the various law enforcement agencies stop and think, "Hey, with this crazy amount of focus out there on us, maybe try not to shoot anymore people today." but nope it just seems to be happening with greater frequency.

It just keeps going. Yet again, Trump's attorney general, William Barr, has without warning removed a high-level Justice Department official and replaced that person with a new political hire. ABC News reports that Barr has removed Deputy Assistant Attorney General Brad Wiegmann, a career employee in the National Security Division.

Wiegmann's office "helps ensure federal counterterrorism and counterintelligence activities are legal," in ABC's phrasing—an oversight office reining in other government departments that attempt to overstep their legal bounds. Now he's been booted, replaced by new political appointee Kellen Dwyer.

With the Harry Potter and the Dixie Chicks, the general argument is that it was the wrong thing to do, and not worth emulating. If the argument changes from "what happened to the Dixie Chicks was wrong" to "the left needs to police its cultural spaces the way the right did against the Dixie Chicks" the change in goalposts should be made explicit.

Growing up in the 90s, I did get the sense that these kinds of boycotts were more of a silly conservative Christian thing, although that seemed to be more of a historical accident during the Clinton administration when the center-left was at its high point, as there had been plenty of left-wing efforts to cancel shows/ fire people before, and it would start popping up again later.

I will note that a lot of the criticism of Nick Spencer's (a outspoken Hillary Clinton fan who had run for office as a Democrat) Captain America has come from the left.

There was an essay that got coverage on boingboing where Nick Spencer was criticized for being overly optimistic on the American reaction to evidence of racially motivated wrongdoing, of being wrong to suggest that Falcon might regret arguments with Captain America in the 1970s comics, of punching down on campus protesters, of failing to endorse safe spaces, etc.

There were plenty of liberals complaining that Cap being a Hydra agent sent the wrong message, was offensive, etc.

Escalation of the tension is in the police's best interest. If they beat the hell out of people until they riot, they can use the riot as an excuse to beat the hell out of people. It even works retroactively, if you've got control of the media narrative, which they do.

Living in Los Angeles, preparations are important. However, it will be difficult to truly prepare for a 8.0 or greater magnitude quake and the fallout from that. After the Northridge quake, we had aftershocks that felt as strong as the original quake.

Nevertheless, it is also important to be clear about the science. If you go through the data on the site, there is no notable difference in seismic events this year compared to previous years. There is just as much chance there will be a major quake here tomorrow as there was for one to happen any day last year or the year before.

The great fear with earthquakes is the possibility of a seismic storm event. This appears to have occurred in the Mediterranean region around four thousand years ago during the end of the Bronze Age. In this event, the Earth's crust is so destabilized that there are major seismic events occurring several times a year for decades.

Biden campaign launches official Animal Crossing: New Horizons yard signs

Starting today, September 1st, Animal Crossing: New Horizons players will be able to deck out their island homes with official Joe Biden yard signs as part of the campaign’s broader initiative to organize voters online this fall.

Since the start of the coronavirus outbreak in the US earlier this year, campaigns like Biden’s have been forced to entirely rethink how they organize voters. Instead of in-person rallies, Biden’s team has opted for live-streamed events and fundraisers along with socially distanced productions and interviews. The entire Democratic National Convention was held virtually earlier this month, with most guests streaming in over video software like Zoom to deliver speeches.

The Biden-Harris campaign released four sign designs for players to download, featuring the official Biden-Harris logo, Team Joe logo, the “Joe” Pride logo, and an image of aviator sunglasses shaded in red, white, and blue. Players will be able to access the designs in-game by scanning the design QR codes through the Nintendo Switch Online app.
Makes me almost wish I played Animal Crossing.

Trump’s Latest Conspiracy Theory: Thugs on a Plane Dressed All in Black

WASHINGTON — Even Laura Ingraham thought it sounded a little wild. There was the president of the United States on her Fox News talk show that aired Monday night describing mysterious people in “dark shadows” secretly pulling the strings of his Democratic challenger amid the street protests against racial injustice.

“People that you’ve never heard of” are controlling former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., President Trump told her. “People that are in the dark shadows.”

“What does that mean?” Ms. Ingraham asked. “That sounds like conspiracy theory.”

“No,” Mr. Trump answered. “People that you haven’t heard of. They’re people that are on the streets. They’re people that are controlling the streets. We had somebody get on a plane from a certain city this weekend and in the plane it was almost completely loaded with thugs wearing these dark uniforms, black uniforms with gear and this and that. They’re on a plane.”

“Where was this?” Ms. Ingraham asked.

“I’ll tell you sometime, but it’s under investigation right now, but they came from a certain city, and this person was coming to the Republican National Convention, and there were like seven people on the plane like this person, and then a lot of people were on the plane to do big damage.”
The president’s cryptic comments quickly drew attention on social media as people have tried to figure out what he was talking about.
