We are talking about a situation where individual states were largely allowed to make their own calls on how things were going to go.

Wouldn't putting the blame squarely on the President be like blaming the President for gun related murder when the states largely dictate their individual gun laws?

It's not like the President has had a sole call on when things closed and opened back up.

Blame him for being dumb. I'm just not sure he should get the blame for what is, at the very least, left largely up to the states.

He may not have created it, but his response to it worsened the impact. The recovery that we've seen is simply returning to where we were pre-COVID.

And you can't complain about Obama/Biden numbers, as they had to handle Bush's recession.

Can I see where he has specifically stated that he would raise the taxes of folks that aren't doing well?

Never mind that Trump having not executed a plan to reduce health care costs while he had the Presidency and the Congress amounts to what is effectively a tax on folks who are not well off.

The president has FEMA, CDC and a hundred other powers at his disposal that could have helped.

In the event of a NATIONAL crisis, the NATIONAL leader is expected to step up, yes.

Trump's lack of plan forced states to compete against one another. Have you already forgotten how the Feds stole PPE from states? Or only used the War Powers Act to protect our bacon supply?

The president of our country is expected to God Damn lead. And Trump has failed to do that on every level. He won't even encourage people to wear masks.

So yeah, it falls on him for half assing it.

As in not feeling the need to broadly refer to rape survivors as nutjobs for the sake of a useless pro-Trump post.

Tami's post a while back about the best description, from the UK, about Trump seems dead right, since it also trickles down to his (still breathing) supporters.

Was this the implication? I wondered. Obama having to inherit, and recover the worst economic recession in recent memory (until now) is not the same as businesses simply reopening when restrictions were lifted. Lol.

If the lead had been "You Will Keep Business Open To Protect Minority Jobs...", do you honestly believe for even a half a second that New York or Illinois would have even considered following that lead?

You mentioned folks being out of work.

A lot of that was on the individual state approaches.

Seriously, take a minute and look into the potential approach Illinois will be taking to dining being open to the public this winter.

    A lot is on Trump.

That much is not. It is just silly to try to act like it is.

Yes, because it's always about money. When the argument turns to poor people conservatives talk about money. Taxes is their go-to excuse. They think it's a good reason to ignore the suffering of the poor.

The middle class is shrinking while the upper classes and billionaires use a fraction of their wealth to ensure the lower classes pay the tab. Corporations make hundreds of billions and pay nothing. The people who really need the money won't be the ones who have their taxes raised.

Keep cleaning Trumps boots. That's a good boy.

It is fair, though, to wonder how business, and life at large, would have been impacted had Trump not thrown out the Pandemic Response team and playbook put in place by the Obama Administration.

Still a lot of "Maybe..." there, and it does nothing to reopen the places in Illinois that have said that they fully intend to stay closed until the state's numbers on occupancy are at least up to a "Well, We Can At Least Break Even..." level.

I'm not sure the polling is accurate, but we'll see. I hope it is. The polls failed spectacularly in 2016.

Obama had multiple disease-related threats occur during his administration. The PRT was created to watch for, assess, and plan out responses for those specific types of threats. It was Obama taking advantage of that resource that kept our country safe. If Trump were competent he would've recognised the value in that.

For Chicago as a specific example. This article is pretty solid. It just doesn't make any sense to put the jobs that are going to stay on the shelf on Trump when this is clearly a call that venues are making based on rules a city has put into place.
