Default Most notable DC character from each year.

Who do you think are the most notable DC characters by introduction year? They could be considered notable because of how much impact they’ve had on the DC Universe, because of how prominent they’ve become in general, or for another reason. My choices:

Well, it seems that up through 1980 the only years that had over 200 character debuts were 1940, 1941, 1942 and 1966.

From 1981 to 2019 it happens every year.

I just came in to make sure Naomi got 2019.

Is her comic more interesting than her Young Justice guest star. Because dang, they made her seem stupid. Or is her catchphrase, "Um, I got my powers yesterday." Because that is really all she says.
I think restorative nostalgia is the number one issue with comic book fans.
A fine distinction between two types of Nostalgia:

Reflective Nostalgia allows us to savor our memories but accepts that they are in the past
Restorative Nostalgia pushes back against the here and now, keeping us stuck trying to relive our glory days.

If I was going to do it, I wouldn't always go by what year a character (or team) was introduced. I'd prefer to pick something significant that happened that year.

    Infinitely more interesting.

It might not be to your taste. I don't know what kind of stories you like, but Naomi is far more interesting in her solo than she is in a team book where there's a dozen different faces clamoring for attention. Showing up in YJ and Action is just so we don't forget about her before season 2 hits.

Did you like Ultimate Spider-Man? Naomi is arguably Bendis' best work since that book (or maybe Daredevil), and there is a lot of similarity in how he structures things. Lots of character dynamics and quiet moments, lots of dialogue and conversation, etc. Not a lot of action just for the sake of it, everything is character first. Naomi has some really fun mysteries in it, several of which haven't been answered (or are only partially answered) so far. And what has been revealed is positioning her to be a major powerhouse in the DCU, with her own corner to play in and build from. Really solid foundation that lets her stand on her own as a character while still being connected to the wider universe/s. DC might drop the ball and not realize that potential but if they play it right then she's well positioned to be the next major/important character for the company.

And the art.....Naomi is probably the best looking comic of 2019. If Campbell (the artist) keeps it up, he's going to end up on that "Alex Ross" level of Big Damn Deal.

If you're at all curious I'd say check some previews and reviews, maybe scroll through her appreciation thread here, see if it tickles your interest.

Interesting that Lois Lane (1938), Catwoman (1940), and Supergirl (1959) are nowhere on this list, probably three of the most well known of any of the DC women to generations of readers.

Obviously we need Superman instead of Lois Lane. Catwoman vs Joker. Is truly a toss up, there are arguments for both sides, I might even go with a tie. I could see Supergirl over Green Lantern though.

That is good, because what should have been a great, "let's introduce Young Justice readers to Naomi" turned more into a "Who is this clown and why does she have her own series?" debacle.

Truly, Harvey Bullock debuted in Doug Moench's Batman 361 in 1983, but because there was a "Lieutenant Bullock" in a few panels in Detective 441, 1974, this retroactively became the character's first appearance even though Moench stated that his character is not based on the 1974 character.

For that reason, I would put either Jack Kirby's OMAC or Sandman as the most notable for 1974.

For 1980, I'd go with Starfire or Cyborg over Raven. I get that it was Raven who formed the New Teen Titans, which was DC's best selling title for a good chunk of the 80s, but as for overall impact on the DCU, especially with Cyborg joining the Justice League and being featured in the movie, I'd have to give him the nod.

    Neat list.

Wonder Woman was 1941 though, so she should replaced Aquaman.

    Hard choices....

    But

1993 Harley Quinn over Conner Kent
    1994 Kyle over Bart Allen
2015 Dr. Fate over Jonathan Samuel Kent

would be sure interesting to discuss..
