    From another site--

So there are TWO of these things apparently in the works...

"This project is separate from the already announced franchise reboot being developed by 'Pirates' scribe Ted Elliott and 'Chernobyl' creator Craig Mazin.

The new project is said to be separate from the already announced reboot of the popular franchise that has Pirates scribe Ted Elliott and Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin developing the story.

Longtime Pirates producer Jerry Bruckheimer is attached to produce both the Elliot/Mazin project and this new Robbie/Hodson project."

I'll watch pirate movies about Margo Robbie and Karen Gillan, I'm not picky. Maybe in the sequels they'll team up.

Honestly one of these two projects should be turned into a Disney+ mini series. I think as a franchise Pirates could totally work on a semi Mandalorian budget, and having someone like Karen Gillian as the lead with her own crew and someone used to television would be perfect, with episodes effectively being their own mini movies.

If they did a TV show they might need to change it a bit. Go more with the idea of a pirate working for a government attacking other countries stuff.

Or we go with the Robin Hood way, "Steal from the rich and give to the poor."
I think restorative nostalgia is the number one issue with comic book fans.
A fine distinction between two types of Nostalgia:

Reflective Nostalgia allows us to savor our memories but accepts that they are in the past
Restorative Nostalgia pushes back against the here and now, keeping us stuck trying to relive our glory days.

Not sure why they would need to change anything, just have pirates vs worse pirates or supernatural stuff just like the movies did. They could even set it in a slightly different era since piracy is a pretty long term concept, even though the 1700’s were the high point.

I love the idea of Margot and Karen’s pirates being rivals with the movies focusing on Margot’s perspective and the Disney+ series focussing on Karen Gillian’s Captain Redd. She’s technically played a pirate before and looked awesome as one.
