could have worked. Plenty of properties to choose from, even back then. Solo heroes, teams. Obviously the cable world wasn't really an option then, it was all about syndication if you didn't have a network partner.

Odd, in retrospect that Marvel Productions (The TV production group) was partner with Hasbro/Sunbow for developing the GI Joe Cartoon, as well as Marvel NY publishing the comics, but it took Mattel to approach Marvel about producing a toy line based on Marvel's own characters-- a line that was scant compared to Hasbro's GI Joe Line or Kenner's Super Powers figures.

Especially if the Toei animation group were contracted, a Secret Wars mini series (remember GI Joe started off as a couple of mini series, too) could have been very cool.

Could superheroes throw punches back then? I remember the Spidey cartoon wasn't allowed to show him punching anyone. It would have been kinda weird

On Saturday mornings it was up to the network. Superfriends couldn't at first (but could later) but mighty orbots could. In syndication you bet they could!

they did not have the set up to do it themselves. Not sure if all the rights were in house to get all the characters.

Fantastic four rights may have been tied up. (but the bad guys were ok.) The heroes who cameod in Spider-Man solo/ amazing friends/ hulk/ spider-woman, x-men pryde of the X-Men would have been ok.

Cap America, thor, iron man, spidey, hulk, she-hulk, daredevil, X-Men, dr strange, shanna, power man, sunfire, medussa, sub-marniner, namorita, spider-woman, human fly and others showed up in those shows.

FF was the big question. The ff bad guys like dr doom, wizard, and puppet master could be used (and was used in spidey and the hulk 80s cartoons) but the ff themselves may have been off limits due to rights.

For fun here is another commercial.
