People will skip over what you and Sammy said. Just like they will this article from November where the writer noticed back then he was doing it.
Oh well, five pages, lets see if we can get to 50 with people taking him seriously.
People aren't ignoring that it might have been a joke, they are saying it's poorly executed/and still oozing privilege even if a joke. Let's not forget following up any comment with "just joking" doesn't give you a free pass. It's not a magic eraser of privilege and ignorance nor is it a get out of jail free card. The reality is, in this pandemic world we find ourselves in: people are broke, people are worried their jobs won't be there is a month's time, or worse they have to choose between being safe or being penniless... and he's making a joke about how he won't even work out in his mansion with the personal trainer paid by others to make him fit when he has nothing but free time. LOL! Isn't throwing away money hilarious, esp. in a time when people don't have any. LOL! What a charismatic cad But the joke gets better, because the actress doesn't get to be so blasé about it because of Hollywood's institutional sexism. LOL! Misogyny, am I right? HIGH FIVE!
If it was a joke, it wasn't funny. It was unsuccessfully delivered. Much like Gal Galbot's "Imagine" celebrity sing-a-long which backed fired. It was mistimed and not thought through. All of which people has said before in this thread... which ironically you ignored. Ohhhhh now this gets super down the trippy rabbit hole of you commenting on people ignoring that, when actually you're ignoring the people not ignoring it. I think that broke my mind, I need to lie down. HA!
"We are Shakespeare. We are Michelangelo. We are Tchaikovsky. We are Turing. We are Mercury. We are Wilde. We are Lincoln, Lorca, Leonardo da Vinci. We are Alexander the Great. We are Fredrick the Great. We are Rustin. We are Addams. We are Marsha! Marsha Marsha Marsha! We so generous, we DeGeneres. We are Ziggy Stardust hooked to the silver screen. Controversially we are Malcolm X. We are Plato. We are Aristotle. We are RuPaul, god dammit! And yes, we are Woolf."
Yeah, I don't think anyone actually cares about the "privilege" aspect of this, if for no other reason than it's pretty baseless (Pattinson doesn't have a mansion, for starters). Plenty of less well-off people are making similar jokes.
Like, c'mon now. You didn't catch his humor at first, whatever, it's fine. No harm in just admitting you fell for a joke.

It doesn’t take a mansion to consider yourself privileged.

a) I never said I knew it was a joke from the start. Nice try, though
b) I'll even do you one better: when I first read this, I didn't think he was joking. In hindsight I now realise he might have been joking (we don't know for a fact he is, or it isn't a joke steeped in truth). For example, I believe WB paid for him to have a personal trainer. I also believe that he hasn't been training to the same level as his female co-star, despite the fact he is the lead. Joke or not, I don't think I'm wrong on that. But even if I am, I don't think it's a well planned joke, considering how the world is right now. And I'm not embarrassed admitting any of that.
c) as a side note; don't do that, by the way. You said people are ignoring that it's a joke, when plenty of posts have acknowledge it, and repeated "I don't think it's funny". A point you keep ignoring. Until you are displaying traits of "own up when you're wrong" don't try and be smug about what others aren't "owning up to" (when in fact I actually never claimed anything you're trying to pin on me). It just... isn't a very likeable double standard to display

That's exactly my point. You and others (and not just here) immediately took what he said at face value and just dogpiled on that info. It makes it look like y'all didn't read the article (which makes clear that Pattinson is a troll in interviews) and are thus getting mad about literally nothing.
That's why I don't care about anyone not finding it funny or whatever, because that just looks like trying to save face from being reactionary about a joke, by pretending this is some issue of privilege when it really isn't.

I get that they were talking about it being a joke; I've not ignored that. If it's a joke they don't think is funny, fine. What I don't buy is that anyone believes that such a joke has anything to due with Pattinson's privilege, either in general or in this specific case, because that's an absurd reaction to have.

Okay, before I get into the whole "revisionism" of your stance (which I'm happy to do), can I just check: do you believe and embrace the realty of white privilege, male privilege, str8 privilege? I just want to save myself a lot of going down one path, if the reality of the objection is actually tooted on a separate track down the hill that we need to traverse first (I like this mountain climbing metaphor that just appeared).

Yes. That's exactly why this whole thing is coming off so ridiculous: because Pattinson joking about being lazy during quarantine isn't about any kind of privilege at all. Do you think there aren't plenty of people who fall outside the categories you named who aren't also making the same kinds of jokes? Twitter is full of them, and that's been a fairly widespread reaction from what I've seen. So it's confusing to me why this is being treated as any kind of deal at all if the fact of his joking is known.

Golly. Gosh. Like I said before, a lot of bad things have been happening to a lot of people for a long, long time. And people have still found a way to keep their sense of humor and make jokes. But that is unacceptable now because of a pandemic.
What about cancer?
What about child poverty?
What about the Iraq war?
What about ISIS?
What about what about what about...
I consider myself very left wing and very PC and I’m just flabbergasted that people here think someone can’t make a joke to the media. Especially one for a profile, which are most often puff pieces of garbage journalism. Why are people getting so worked up about what one Hollywood actor jokes about?
Of course he’s privileged. So is every other Hollywood actor! And pretty sure they’ve made jokes. I remember once many moons ago Angelina Jolie made a joke she hadn’t had sex for 12 months. Was that reprehensible? Was that dismissive of people single people trying to find love, or widows, or sexual assault victims? Come on people.
This joke isn’t harming anyone else, either. It’s directed at himself more than anything.
The people who want Batman to be some sort of outlandish Jim Lee bodybuilder are the same people who’d want all female superheroes to look like David Finch Pornstars.
(I love Jim Lee btw.)
I’m wondering if I am actually out of touch, or if other people are just really thin-skinned at the moment.

I think this helps my case, but I presume others are going to say this bolsters theirs. This is from the profile. Clearly having a laugh.
Or, is it perhaps that people need Batman to be the absolute alpha-male, conservative, traditional, trust fund baby, status quo-upholding man that is alive.
Only non normal people like Joker wear purple. Is this toxic masculinity shining through?
Or do people hate (and I do mean hate in that they need to scream into the Internet void) Robert Pattinson that much?
