^They're often cited as a major influence on Star Trek space battles.

Star Trek is definitely more inspired by Naval Warfare, while Star Wars is definitely more aerial in nature.

The Borg kids were not Borg very long at all. Seven on the other hand spent most of her life as a member of the Collective. That probably had a major impact on the decsion to let Icheb join.

I did not find this episode very compelling. It's just a (yet another) rehash of Balance of Terror. I know it's early but most of this show has just been a poor man's retelling of old Trek plots. I'm waiting for something to break the mold.

Also, Singh and Ortegas are completely uninteresting and I'm already dying for a shakeup in the bridge crew.

I enjoyed it quite a lot.

Way more intense than any of the battles in Picard and Discovery.

I enjoyed Uhura and Chapel taking charge.

Also, they have begun rounding out La'an. Seems like she might be connecting with Spock a bit.

Anyone get the feeling the Gorn might become one of this crew's nemeses?

They could be that, or they could just be a one off...I kind of lean towards the latter as they took pains not to actually show the Gorn here.

Four episodes in, I think Ortegas is failing as a character and should be dropped.

Since Kirk's Enterprise was the first to ever encounter the Gorn at all, maybe they are just trying to maintain some semblance of that by having him be the first to actually see a Gorn. Probably not but one hopes.

This last episode is probably the best single episode of Star Trek since Voyager.

That was my feeling, they intentionally shied away from showing them so it seems like a plausible reason.

Cannon says Vulcan are 3 times stronger than humans.

Like Vulcans are suppose to be stronger than humans, but that rarely gets brought up.

As others have said, this is the weakest episode thus far and it isn't helped that the nuTrek writers are obsessed with "eugenics" now. Star Trek Picard had a weird eugenics plotline thrown into it that was reviled, so the stink of that shows up here as well. Reminds me as to how DISCO S2 and Picard S1 both had cliche AI storylines, it just feels like they have no restraint going to the same mine again and again.

Also, my remarks about lack of continuity has nothing to do with liking the show. I've really liked what I've seen. I just consider these prequels to be prequels to some similar TOS in a similar universe, but not the Star Trek Prime Universe. My Prime Universe is TOS, including the 1970s animated series, I'm sneaking in Star Trek Continues (more truly a TOS setting than any of the prequels), the TOS movies, TNG including movies, DS9 and Voyager.

I also wonder what's up with all these prequels. We haven't had a series starting in the 21st century that sets things in the 24th century, maybe right after Voyager, and continues the story. Everything's a prequel except for Picard and its Dystopian rather than Star Trek future.

    Prodigy is after Voyager, FWIW.

And part of me hopes they hand the ship to Kirk and continue the series with him. I would be down with this being a new timeline.

Can we add Singh as well? It just feels like she is getting more attention than she deserves. Her backstory (Khannnnnnnnnnn!) is tiresome as well.

    I LOVED 'Memento Mori'!
Having said that, I've seen enough Star Trek to know where the ingredients of this delicious stew came from: Balance of Terror, Starship Down, Year of Hell, Wrath of Khan, Disaster, Singularity... and even Babylon 5 and Stargate!

Of all the episodes of modern Trek, the only one I plan to rewatch so far is 'Memento Mori'.
