Dangling Plot Threads

Dangling Plot Threads - There are so many of these in ongoing, serial storytelling like superhero comics. Set ups that never got paid off. Questions that never were answered. Writers leaving a book before they were ready or a book getting canceled too quickly.

What are some of the dangling X-Men plot threads that you are hoping get picked up some day and answered, resolved, and/or put to rest?

They could be character specific or overarching themes.

Here are a few that I'd like to see addressed some day:

What was Rogue's surname from her biological family? What ever happened to her biological father?

Who are Gambit's biological parents?

Did Marrow ever find out about Gambit's part in the Mutant Massacre and her rescue?

How did Sinister block/remove the Death persona in Gambit and since it wasn't totally effective, how did Remy eventually overcome it himself?

How/why was the All-New X-Factor team dissolved? (Yes, I know the book ended, just mean in story closure)

Was Bova telling the truth?

What happened the all the Askani infiltrators of the 20th century?

What happened to Jean’s brother-in-law? Doesn’t he care about his dead wife and children?

Why is Elizabeth Guthrie a mutant in Age of Apocalypse but a human in the main universe?

Who is Shinobi Shaw’s mother? Lourdes?

How is Zaladane related to Lorna?

Will Colossus ever learn he has a son in the Savage Land?

Why has Cannonball and Dazzler both been killed on separate occasions and immediate return back to life?

Don’t the X-men care that Toad and Frenzy killed Tanya Andersen and Sharon Friedlander?

Why did the Siege Perilous show Dazzler her possible deaths and cut her hand in the same place twice?

Ernst being Cassandra Nova/Stuff after Xavier/Jean/Emma lobotomized her and kept her in the institute.

And then Tom Taylor brought Cassie back out of nowhere only to do the same exact thing to her 20 years later. lolz.

My favourite, Kazar and Shanna end up in an Atlantean theme park, the theme of which is Dante’s hell.
Belasco has been living there since the 13c and wants Shanna to be his Beatrice and the bloodstones and all the crap he later put Illyana and the X-Men through.

While exploring the pipes and hydraulics and other things which make it work, they dislodge a body trapped in a pipe.

It’s one of Belasco’s experiments or children, it’s blue, furred and has two fingered hands and feet.

Kazar 9 1982, Bruce Jones and Brent Anderson, the whole Belasco arc, from issue 8 to 12 is fabulous and leads into the events in Uncanny 160 and the damnation of Illyana.

The dangling plotline I want to be answered is, where did Magneto get his information from about Remy's involvement in the Morlock massacre conspiracy. In other words, who ratted out Remy and WHY.
What is Rogue's last name and REAL natural family background? (If Wanda and Pietro's family background can be retconned several times, that goofy story from 2004 short lived solo can be retconned. Maybe Rogue's real last name is...DANVERS )

Why is Elizabeth Guthrie a mutant in Age of Apocalypse but a human in the main universe?

On that note, where is OUR realities Sugarman?

Why has Cannonball and Dazzler both been killed on separate occasions and immediate return back to life?

Ah, the Externals storyline. Selene even mentioned that Sam wasn't a "real" immortal and told X-Force to go ask Cable what really happened when Cannonball died. I don't think they ever did.

Also...

Why does Toad seem to undergo a different mutation in powers and appearance every time we see him?

During Wolverine's no-nose phase, there's an issue where Cyclops received brain damage to a small part of his brain that had been damaged before... nothing ever comes from this.

What connection did Xavier's father have to the Weapon X program?

Are Deadpool and T-Ray the same person or not, and which one of them is actually Wade Wilson?

Who is Benjamin Russell and what is his connection to Shatterstar?

What is Adam X's connection to the Summer's family (and if there's none why was Mr. Sinister so interested in him?)





and did anybody ever pick up on the story where Blink and Chamber are named the heirs of Apocalypse?

Many of yours pretty much seemed to have all been answered:

Externals: I think that got handled in the Cable series before the current one

Toad: Because of genetic instability introduced by Amanda Mueller

Brian Xavier: Brian Xavier, Kurt Marko and Alexander Ryking designed SHIVA, which the Weapon X Program used as a failsafe

Brain Damage: UNANSWERED

T-Ray: This got handled in Deadpool & Cable where it was proven that T-Ray was just nutso

Russel: UNANSWERED

Adam-X: UNANSWERED

The Ernst/Nova thing isnt much of a dangling plotline bc its retconned that she's not. Whatever plans Morrison had for the character, later writers have contradicted it and its been canon for the past 15 or so years that they are separate characters. Case closed

How do you know she isnt a mutant? She's had zero development in 616 and it could just be that her powers have not activated
