It's okay, though I probably wouldn't kick off a new Wonder Woman series in Gotham (or Metropolis, or Central City, or Coast City, etc.). Not great, not horrible. Kind of interesting, but there's definitely a limit on how interesting Batman's villains are against the big dog DC heroes. Usually, you need some plot contrivance to make that interesting and plausible.

Anyway, thinking of this and DC Universe Online (WW's mentee's start in Metropolis), WW needs a home city besides Themyscira, and probably not a real world city that will be replaced by another real world city as her home base in the next continuity.

EDIT: Looking back, though, you have to go about halfway through the book before WW finally appears. Two WW titles come out this Wednesday, and she only appears in half of each title. Oh well, I guess that adds up to one whole book...

At least in this book when she does turn up she gets to do quite a bit.
If ten years of recording The Young and the Restless for my mother have taught me anything, it's that characters in serial dramas are always happily in love...until they're not

In spite of the flaws with this story, it's still better than anything Azzarello has cranked out in the last 3 years. At the very least, this version of Diana is recognizable in character, appearance, and her way of handling villains. Ethan Van Sciver's art was 2nd to none(even though he forgot to depict her with the lasso).

What was her way to handle the villains? She mocks, throws sharp objects, take one of them by the throat, and gets frown.

Pre-Flashpoint WW is not that bland.

It's what she didn't do that impressed me. She didn't impale them through the chest, sexually assault them, sever any limbs, or kill them.

or snap a man's neck or decapitate anyone (Mongol is no less a monster than Medusa) ... it's not like she did any of the above mentioned things (that she actually did) with no cause.

It's a simple issue, she just beat them... she won't have deep mata convos with them

Can't argue with that, though IMO facing down Mongul and Non in a couple of panels is far cooler than facing down every Gotham villain combined. Even though I believe Simone was trying to imply that cleaning up Gotham is harder than it looks, my first reaction is that the book is just trying to be contrary and shocking, like a Buzzfeed headline: "This book is going to change the way you look at Batman villains!"

I've never said that the pre-Azzarello Wonder Woman was perfect but the majority of writers who wrote her didn't have her doing the extreme things I mentioned. Those that did, such as Rucka, are usually not in my list of favorite runs with very few exceptions.

That's some damn fine art, I'll give it that much.

Though it begs the question, why no flying off the handle over her enormous breasts here?

Don't see any dead villains, don't see anybody having to counsel her against cutting off heads, don't see the Amazons hating on how men smell or killing any men after sex.

It's an interesting argument to say that the pre52 Wonder Woman is no different to New and then in the next breath assert the new 52 one is better, but the fact it's just not so (in either regard )

For a start, they are actually more than half covered by the breastplate.

For another, they eagle itself is adding to the overall effect.

Diana is generally shown as well endowed, but here she is not spilling out of her costume.

Eh, neither has she been in most of her New 52 appearances outside her own title, yet it doesn't stop people from leveling that make-believe complaint.

Just an observation pointing out the clear double-standard. Fact is that only rarely has the over-sexualized complaint held any real merit in the New 52 Wonder Woman, and is in most cases mostly merely a construct to add weight to people's problems because of story. If this had been a story set within the New 52, this place would be flocking with people ripping the art for her boobs being too big and fake looking. It might have even had a dedicated CBR article by now. Hell, there's no difference between the art here and the way Rocafort drew Cassie on the Teen Titans cover, a cover that created so much controversy here that it led to the entire place being rebooted. But this is not New 52, and it has a female writer behind it, therefore its all gravy.
