Yes. The unforgettable original. In any subsequent song i tend to enjoy the notes with the redone theme. Some of the best parts of any song.

Its so good, that i think the one by Jack White is halway decent upto the 40 second mark. As soon as they abandon the Bond theme there's nothing to take cover.

Imo, Jack White one is easily the worst. I wanted to stop listening after that point. Something that never happened with the other songs.

Madonna's is probably the best of the three. If it was not associated with Bond, it would probably pass as an okay or good Madonna song. I used to like it as a kid.

As i have already mentioned, i really enjoyed Sam Smith earlier. But with time i am liking it less and less. Especially, after hearing Radiohead. Its the second Thorke song i have ever heard. But he is so good that the 'music' comes from his voice itself. Rest of it is pretty low key in contrast to the bombastic instrumentals of Sam Smith's rendition.

I'd forgotten about the Radiohead link, so I should have another listen to that version. I find the Sam Smith take really soporific and unengaging, like he sung it before his first tea of the day and they just went with that.

A lot of the themes are pretty much Goldfinger retreads, but Goldeneye and The World Is Not Enough hold up pretty well. I'd forgotten about You Only Live Twice, and that's awesome. The songs always have these cliched string/synth stabs, but it just sounds wrong when they don't.

Have the Madonna one on now and still not keen, but I wonder if I associate it too much with the dreadful film. The Chris Cornell one is alright, I guess. Maybe it just sounds too American to be Bond.

I think the Jack White one must actually be in violation of the Geneva Convention somehow.

Man I can't even pick a top five songs. Live and Let Die and For Your Eyes Only are my top five. The rest suck!

As far as movies, thats a toughie. In no particular order:

    -Octopussy
    -For Your Eyes Only
    -From Russia With Love
    -Living Daylights
    -On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Every day is a gift, not a given right.

    In chronological order:

From Russia With Love. An old style song but I really liked it.

    Thunderball.

We Have all the time in the world.

    Nobody does it better.

    All time high.
    Power with Girl is better.

    Favorite Films

    -On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    -Golden Eye
    -Goldfinger
    - Casino Royale
    -The World is not Enough

I grew up with Pierce Brosnan as my Bond, and while he's out of touch and some of the movies he was in (TND, DAD) were bad, I still like the best two he was part of, mostly because of the more interesting and complexly shaded villains you got there (Alec Trevelyan, Elektra King) than in other movies. Also the action there was quite memorable.

Favorite Songs (this one is tough since Bond songs tend to be better than the movies they're in)
    -- "Skyfall" by Adele
-- "No Time to Die" by Billie Elish
-- "You know my name" by Chris Cornell
-- "Golden Eye" by Tina Turner, Bono and the Edge.
    -- "Goldfinger" by Shirley Bassey
    (Honorable Mention)
-- "You only live once" by Nancy Sinatra
-- "Live and Let Die" by Paul McCartney

Funny thing is Glady's Knight License To Kill uses VERY similar music to the beginning notes of Goldfinger, although otherwise it sounds fairly distinct.

Also LTK's ending song/general love music/recurring line "If you Asked Me to" by Patti Labelle became a bigger hit when Celine Dion did a cover of it.

One great Bond song is KD Lang's Surrender from Tomorrow Never Dies. Like a lot of secondary Bond songs (Like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, the Pretender's Living Daylights music and the Shirley Bassey QOS alternate) it's actually the foundation of most of the film's non-Bond theme "action" music, rather than Sheryl Crow's title tune. I'm guessing this might be because Surrender was originally the title tune (and actually syncs up fairly well with the opening credits) but they got Crow in at the last minute and I guess at the time she was a bigger name?
