Default The Dark Knight Returns: Golden Child - New Frank Miller One-Shot

Yes, you read that right: Frank Miller is returning to the TDKR universe with a one-shot to be released on Dec 11, with Rafael Grampa on art.

The focus presumably will be on Carrie Kelly as Batwoman and the children of Superman and Wonder Woman.

    More info and preview art.

The art reminds me of Frank Quitely. It's got a similar style, and I typically dislike Quitely's art but Grampa's seems to be easier on me. The eyes are really stylized, but maybe that's just because he's giving Johnathan Kent a really big head for a baby to emphasize that he's super smart. Still a tiny bit off putting though.

I like Carrie Kelly's Batwoman design on the cover.

Very excited about this! Fitting that my copy of Batman #62 with the Miller variant cover came in the mail today. I love Carrie Kelly, and especially her role in Master Race, so it's exciting to see Miller developing the next generation here! Last Crusade was really good, so hopefully this has a similar quality!

That's a good note on Quitely - I'd say also Burnham and Raffaele Ienco have a similar sense of line as Grampa. I'm also not a huge fan of that general style, but the preview art is actually appealing to me, and pretty exciting!

Carrie is the stealth awesome of the Dark Knight Returns universe.

Agreed, love the design. It's really good, and I like the sort of double cape thing or whatever you call it she's got going.

Which reminds me; I still haven't checked out either Master Race or Last Crusade yet. Might as well use this as an excuse to get caught up.

Agreed, I love Carrie enough I'd be 1010% on board for her joining the "main" timeline/universe.

I love me some Grampa, I may pick this up just for his art.

Tomasi tried, but Frank specifically shot that down.

This looks good! Grampá's art is a nice mix of Quitely and Miller's work.

Never read The Master Race. How was it? TDKR is a classic, TDKRSA is terrible and TLC was a pleasant surprise.

    What about ASBAR?
Also technically Year One counts in this universe.
As does the new Superman Year One.

Master Race wasn't bad. I thought it was a bit too predictable, though after the dreadfulness that was Strikes Again, I'm okay with that. The Carrie stuff was my favorite, so this is good news for me. And I agree - TLC was quite good.

Same here, besides the story sounds interesting. I'll be sure to pick this one up.

It was a beautiful car wreck that I would love to see finished to completion. It was just so crazy and over-the-top that it was impossible for me not to like it.
