I assumed it was "who do you believe is best suited to be Peter's main romantic interest in 616?", but I agree that the poll is unclear for the reasons you state. I'm not sure what it is these polls are trying to gauge.

That was a correct assumption. The only part I didn't originally clarify enough, was the 616 bit, which someone brought up quite early.

What I'm trying to pinpoint, is how much readers like each of these characters as a romantic partner for Peter.

Who we think is best suited as Peter's partner, or who we like the most as Peter's partner? They're two different things. Are we strictly talking present day? What if someone would vote Gwen, but doesn't want her to be brought back to life?

For most people, it would be the same thing, but you're right, it's not. Without indulging too much in something so academic, I'd say that "fits you better" equals "who you like most" for our purposes.

I know the fans of Felicia, Mary Jones, someone else, no one, and ( especially) Gwen, will not like this: The answer on both best fit and who I prefer is Mary Jane: I acknowledge, she is far from perfect ( ASM 87 “ You can have him to Gwen” and abandoning her sister). That is Especially true because Aunt May who raised Peter chose her ( for reasons I do not need to rehash).

Most people agree ( especially those who matter: Those at Marvel). Think about it. Felicia still is in Peter stories unlike Cindy and Gwen (she is with Miles).

I haven't been following the Black Cat solo, but is she romantically tied to anyone? I think it would be nice if more writers explored her bisexuality. A little more LGBTQ+ representation in the Spider-man corner of the MU wouldn't hurt.

Not at the moment, but a recent issue of Black Cat's solo implied she had a girlfriend at one point, so it'd be interesting to see that character make an appearance down the line.
