Who is the most respected hero in the Marvel Universe?

I am not surprised so many people said Captain America. But I am surprised at the Spiderman answers. In the few modern titles I have read that had Spiderman with any other hero other then Fantastic Four or Daredevil, like when he was on the Avengers I see Spiderman written as a jokester and the other heroes treating him as such.

I know Daredevil is one of your exceptions, but Matt speaks very VERY highly of Spider-Man in a recent DD issue. Something along the lines of him being the "best of all of them."

In issue 5 of Chip Zdarsky's run: "He's pure power and he doesn't even know it. He's the best of us." In that same issue, Spider-Man confronts Matt on his downward spiral and demands that he step back from the superhero life until he can get his s*** together. Something to that effect.

I think heroes that don't know Spider-Man that well don't necessarily respect him as much as they should. But I think any hero with even a relative amount of experience with him know that he's very special.

I think a lot of people act more annoyed, which can sometimes give the appearance that they don't respect him. But a lot of heroes respect and like him more than they sometimes will let on. Hulk and Wolverine for example have both indicated in thought bubbles that they like Spider-Man more than they care to admit at times.

Yeah but thats bendis "chaos magic isn't real". He never got upset ignoring history. He more or less wrote a kid spidey and not a hero with over 30 years of history who was as much of a pro as iron man by this point.

In avengers 1 vol 3 sandman defends spidey after one of the avengers disses him saying he is worth three of him! They did a issue where spidey has been missing amd most of the heroes want spidey back. Even cap says "We do what we do becouse he does what he does. We can't fight kang or ultron if we are dealing with kingpin or dr ock."

Great line from that issue. In two what if stories where spidey dies hulk gets upset over it even saying he liked spidey. Marvel forgets they were friends in the 70s but two of the what if writers at least remembered it.

Among the in-universe general public, across the board, I'd agree it's Cap. However, Charliehustle425 and Frontier touch on some important nuance.

Captain America, but I also think Black Panther is nearly his equal nowadays.

People respect T'Challa but there's always a slight distrust or worry over his loyalties to Wakanda or his own secrets. Cap is pretty much an open book and is loyal to the dream more then he is America in isolation (not that T'Challa only cares about Wakanda, but it's more complicated for him since he's their king).

Cap represents conventional, white, male America. I can see the general public of many other countries having reservations about him.

I can see some women in the MU's US much preferring Captain Marvel or She-Hulk, or - especially in New York - African Americans preferring Luke Cage.

I don't see too many MU/US residents disliking Captain America, but I can see how some might have other preferences.

Especially in the era of crossovers and events happening so often. As an avenger he won over wolverine and iron man. Cap had ben shown to respect him.

I agree spiderman is respected by those who know him. He has people he can count on in every team. I wish he was back on one, but because of his many guest spots and the run of MTU he got to know a lot of characters. It is not long before others she his serious side.

I do agree that Cap is probably the all-around champion in this category. He's probably the one character that most every good-guy in the MU would listen to, maybe not agree with him, but would at least shutup long enough to hear out.

Still, it's the exceptions I find interesting. i.e. Does the 616 corporate world find Iron Man most trustworthy because he's one of them?

I would think a lot, especially those outside the mainstream, have an affinity for Spider-Man because he could be anybody under that mask. So there's no reason to suppose he's not like them.
