Default The Last of Us II Banned in the Middle East and North Africa

    https://realotakugamer.com/the-last-...t-north-africa

The game has been banned in almost every country in the region.

The one exception to the ban, is Israel due to using a different localization than the rest of the region

I've not been following the game but I'd hope this isn't the "hot mess" Immortal Weapon is talking about.

It's not. It involves the main plot of the game. Elise being a lesbian is been openly shown in promotional trailers.

I'm kinda surprised local authorities gave enough of a **** about that game to go to such lenght.

I mean, ok it's a popular name in the video game world but even so, that's still something like 98% of people there aren't going to ever hear about.

    Ah well...

You're talking about regions that have homosexuality outlawed. Sony has to sent a sample of their games for ratings and certification. This game was never going to happen on their neck of the woods.

Obviously we’re not there yet, but I hope we never reach a point where Western media never has any themes or content that wouldn’t get past Chinese censors. There’s wanting to make as much money as possible, and then there’s having your culture implicitly directed by a totalitarian state.

Ubisoft tried that with Rainbow Six Siege. They launched the game in China and updated the game in other regions to reflection the Chinese version and it pissed off their global playerbase. They had to change it back due to the huge backlash.

They should have patched in a version where you can play as an animated skeleton.

Its a region where the extremist Islamic beliefs still dominate and you can be executed for being gay (many have) and imprisoned for being raped (many have).

Of course they are banning this game.
