I also am 99.99% sure Strom's approach to Scott would not have been with the intention of starting an affair. She would likely have been intending to help the two of them out by using her own experiences with the Shadow King to help Scott come to terms with his case of Poccy possession.
In the end, that would have made how things turned out more tragic - not for things to have happened with some catty person who was looking for any way to get under Jean's skin (and the only redeeming thing about the affair in my eyes is that Emma actually fell in love with Scott despite her original intentions) but to have happened with her best friend who was actually trying to help save their marriage until mutual feelings went out of control.
How it could have worked out in the end would be based solely on how well the story was told. I personally would have removed ANY ambiguity about whether or not Jean's attempt with Logan was witnessed. The answer would have been YES, it was seen by both Scott and Ororo - but Logan's rejection was not. I would want to make sure blame for thing falling apart lands on everyone more or less equally - and some dialogue with each of the principle characters coming to terms with their faults about how things end up is a must.
And finally, Jean's death, unless portrayed as her evolving past humanity, would have cast a bad light on everything as well (as the story we got did). This is again my own opinion based on some hindsight, but a clear case of Jean effectively fading out because she has become something else, rather than an actual death, I think would have been so much better. A final (mortal) line about how Scott and Ororo are the two people she loves most in this world, and wanting them to take care of each other - before her body dissolves into light (or some other effect that makes clear she isn't dead, just something else).
Because in the end, the story was supposed to be centered on Jean. I think Emma offered less to it than Ororo would have - even if I love Emma as a character.
Dark does not mean deep.
Claremont when he caught wind of Morrison's schemes
its so crazy how Emma was basically used as fill-in from two other characters (Storm and Colossus) and the book ended up skyrocketing her capital and adding so much to her character and the general x-mythos as well . I think its a testament to Morrison's skill that he was able to roll with the punches and come up with an alternative that was more organic and definitely more beneficial to the stories that would follow
I'm going to side step the potential Scott/Storm affair and imagine Storm in New X-men along with Emma and everything else pretty much staying the same. I think adding Storm would make an already incredible run even better. I loved the one issue that Grant Morrison did write Storm. At least she did more than just lightening (she used fog). I also loved her discussion with Xavier in that issue.
Storm is a great character and it is hard to have X-men without such a pivotal character. I loved the New X-men era (it is my favorite) and while Storm wasn't on that team she was over in Claremont's book being a team leader like the boss that she is. Xtreme X-men was very Storm-centric (mostly for the better than worse, but see Storm: The Arena). Some of my favorite X-treme X-men moments is when Jean guest starred and there was interaction between Storm and Jean.
An affair between Oromo and Scott? Storm would NEVER do that to Jean. In fact, Storm would have Noticed Emma’s seduction and nipped it in the bud before it got out of hand. Jean probably still would have died at the hands of Xorneto, and Scott and Emma wouldn’t start dating until after Jean’s death.
No thank you (to the Storm/Cyclops affair).

Let's be honest here... If Storm was in New X-Men written by Morrison he would have killed her off via EMP.
Sure, but it's totally different to hook-up with a married man whose wife you don't f with than to hook-up with your best friends husband. I just could never imagine Ororo doing that to Jean considering her most significant relationships have been friendships with other female characters.

I think this would’ve been interesting. I alwasy felt like a bro/sis rivalry between Scott & Ororo that could have made for an interesting team interaction (an affair really couldn’t happen between them - They’d need a huge/logical basis to have that make even a lick of sense). Ultimately though, while i would’ve still read XXM for Psylocke & Rogue I wouldn’t give that role Storm had there up for anything. CC gave her and that team a great run in XXM vol.1.

Cyclops and Storm just dont make sense. If Storm was gonna sleep with another x man not named Wolverine.. it would be Gambit every and all day...
Her sleeping with Scott while Jean was alive would not have worked for me. It's just cliche and messy and i'm glad Claremont pulled her for X-treme. Just the idea of it sounds like something some dude who wanks off to cartoon porn would write. No offense to those who like cartoon porn.
