Ahh, yes, we all know how all the Hollywood bigwigs were up in arms about the sacred nature of the Blockbuster Video rental store and how they would flock to any production company that worked out exclusive deals to ensure that their videos went to Blockbuster-but only in Bend, Oregon. There's a region somewhere out there that people will support a video rental store, so they still have one.

Good, I'm glad they decided to let it fail on its own merits.

Man WB is screwing up if they can't fulfill on Dune or Godzilla vs KK. You can bet others will want off the service like James Gunn, and slowly but surely they will be back in the hole again.

And to add insult to injury, it looks like the talent is already jumping ship:

WB will have to pay $250m or HIGHER if they want to put godzilla vs kong on max! (is it worth it wb?)

Turns out the will smith film was put IN CONTRACT by will smith that the film get a full wide theatre release and can not go to any streaming service till after it's full release! Not only that the family was promised by wb the film WOULD get a full theatre release!

So yes smith can sue the pants off wb if they put it on max at all before it's done with it's full theatre window!

So add that one off the list! That's two down! Three unless wb wants to pay $250m or HIGHER for kong!

I'm happy that they can all get the failure they fought so hard for. Hopefully they can do that without killing anybody

What do you have against Dune? That's two posts in a row now saying the same thing, which is a weird fixation.

Not a thing. Unlike the film makers I'm not fighting to get it released to theaters only before they're ready to have an audience, or getting it shelved until everyone has forgotten about it.

Quite a bit of "Assumption..." on your part there though, no?

This article doesn't make the claim you're saying it does.

You do realize 99% of people get hyped on a film via when the marketing happens and not when it was made right?

Yes it does. Sony, a competitor, has admitted that they have seen an uptick in interest due to them not hopping on the streaming service model and being committed to the theatrical release model. The uptick is most likely related to the move that WB has done with the 2021 slate to HBO Max.

That's not them stealing away talent though, the article is just arguing that its easier for them to peddle their wares now.

I never stated Sony was stealing. Jumping ship just means that the people who worked for or with an organization are leaving it, it doesn't necessarily imply a particular reason for the jump as there could be many reasons. For this specific case, I'm implying that the directors, actors, writers, etc are not wanting to work with WB anymore and are looking to go to other studios for work.

For most films slated for 2021 (due to push back or original release) the marketing hasn't really been in full force yet, maybe a teaser trailer or two on YouTube but nothing that's really eating the marketing budget yet. A film like WW84 yeah because the marketing was in full force at the time covid hit and truthfully to move it back would've cost a pretty penny to remarket. So once these films actually get ready for release the marketing will truly begin and be in everyone's faces creating hype for it.
