Yes, it does seem like an unforgivable act but .....the conduct of the assembled group at the scene don't seem like they are in any hurry to do anything about it.

Before the melee gets underway with the X-Men, Young Avengers and Avengers, Wanda gives Victor a warning about the power that possessed her which is given the name Life Force by Allen Heinberg.

Bendis never bothered to explain why Wanda suddenly had the level of power she did in Disassembled, which were explained in the West Coast Avengers arc Darker Than Scarlet. Short answer: It was all Immortus's doing. But after Eli took a shot at Doom and caused the Life Force use Doom as a host, Doom gives us an idea of how much power was transferred .... and it his assessment is correct than any mere mortal would have difficulties containing it. Wanda couldn't...she was almost like she was in a trance during Bendis's opening issues of Disassembled.

When the melee gets underway, everyone naturally gangs up on Doom and it appears like Scott may have gotten fatally swatted. So Cassie goes in for the attack, which was not such a good idea considering the level of power being thrown around. Why the adults don't stop her is not explained, or at least go after Doom themselves. Doom zaps her with the Life Force's power to repel her and warns her to stay back, which indicates he's not aware that the power he's using is lethal.

At this point the fight continues with all the heroes vs Doom without anyone noticing what Cassie's status is and they don't realize that Cassie is dead until Doom is depowered and then leaves. Iron Lad offers to bring her back the same way as when he brought Scott back from the dead using the timestream but his offer is rejected. In anger, he destroys the Vision. This was probably the best chance of Cassie surviving since no one knows what happens to the Life Force when it dissipates. It's use in the story has ended. I don't recall it ever being invoked or mentioned since.

Many of the those present conceded there is a lot of blame to go around in Cassie's death, the writer perhaps signaling that Doom was only the means to an end. Heinberg needed someone to do the deed and it wouldn't do for one of the heroes to be directly responsible. They'd be in the same purgatory that Wanda as a character was in for almost a decade. The group doesn't seem all that anxious to pursue it any further. Earlier, Wiccan had called all of them out for being victims of the same kind of possession that caused them to do things that they wouldn't ordinarily do.

So what you have is Doom playing a couple of roles here.....Wanda's romantic interest and the fall guy for Cassie's pre-ordained death. "Cassie's death was foreshadowed as early as Crusade #2," as the series was winding up. said Heinberg in an interview You couldn't have any of the heroes be responsible. Maybe Iron Lad could have been responsible but I think maybe Heinberg wanted to save him as a viable cast member for his Young Avengers should he ever get around to revisiting the series. So why not have Doom fill both roles?

There’s the rub. They want us to believe that doom is the most feared villain. But they also need to blame Cassie’s death on everyone but this cowardly evildoer that we’re supposed to tremble at. He got triggered by a teenager. Thanos would have killed her and never given it a second thought. So would a lot of other names I have seen floated in the thread. But they want it both ways. They need doom to be the most feared and the most respected. His nobility is a joke. He’s a catty troll. Wakanda still owes him a retaliatory strike. If Scott could outmaneuver him, Shuri should be able to.

T’Challa should be the one to kill Doom. Shuri can be crowned ruler of Latveria though lol.

Shuri as ruler of Latveria reminds me of the Marvel Mangaverse where Doctor Doom turned out to be T'Challa's sister.
The spider is always on the hunt.
