No, they do. Even if they are sold through bookstores and whatnot, it still doesn't guarantee that the sales will drastically increase. In fact, buyers have direct competition with other formats such as trades and omnis. Besides, the floppy has long been outdated as a format for comics. Honestly, graphic novels are the way to go. I really liked Marvel's digital releases that they did for Jessica Jones and the like.

They stopped production on several of their titles, books that haven't made it back in print or digital. They've already confirmed the Empyre tie-ins that aren't in print will be shelved, and there's rumors that Outlawed is cut. So while they didn't fire anyone, there have been layoffs and halting.

Given the fact that Marvel and DC are greedy as all get out if they really made more money doing that, don't you think they would have? It's kind of hard to indulge the predatory instinct of getting someone to buy multiple issues of the same book for the variants or the collectible aspect.

Plus you can't flood digital shelves, to crowd out the competition. You can't overship either. Plus customers might actually want you to lower the price.

"The Marvel EIC Chair has a certain curse that goes along with it: it tends to drive people insane, and ultimately, out of the business altogether. It is the notorious last stop for many staffers, as once you've sat in The Big Chair, your pariah status is usually locked in." Christopher Priest

YOU can still do variant covers for graphic novels.

Take Image's Motor Crush comic book stores had one version of the trade and Barnes & Nobles had another cover.

IDW's Star Trek-from hard ceover single issue comics to library editions-we saw them.

Also your graphic novels forces the one thing so many want to fight against it. DIVERSITY of titles.

As we have seen the direct market allows discrimination and trolls.

The other market says everyone gets a shot-no matter how many trolls act a fool on youtube.

I would probably say they do make more money from those trades.

But why get rid of floppies when you know certain ones will get you money.

14 X-Men book might collect dust as trades (until a new movie) but 12 X-books with 5 variants each will get you sales from stores.

WILL THIS MAKE MARVEL STRONGER IN THE LONG RUN
Depends on how many stores close.
