    Default RIP Denny O'Neil

He passed away today. He's probably best remembered for his seminal Batman, Green Lantern and Question work at DC, but he also did Iron Man and Daredevil at Marvel.

That was shocking when I just jumped on. I pray for his family.
I hope I shall possess firmness and virtue enough to maintain what I consider the most enviable of all titles, the character of an honest man.

He also was an editor at Marvel, back when editors were almost co-creators.

Most famously, he edited most of Frank Miller's "Daredevil" run, creating a working relationship that they would continue at DC when Denny was editing "Batman," and he also was the editor on John Byrne's entire run on "Alpha Flight."

And probably one of the comics I remember him the most for is Iron Man #182.

A big name from my most fanatical comic-reading period. Sad to see him go.

Denny O'Neil was a legend. And thing is he felt like an amazing writer for decades. Read some of his work from the 90s and it felt fresh and gritty, just as good as any other writer of that time.

What I remember the most about Mr. O'Neil are his interviews. Check out any documentary on comic books or Batman and more often than not Denny was there giving great context of that time or insight into the character.

A true legend. He'll always live on in his stories.

O'Neil also worked with then EIC Jim Shooter and Bob Budiansky over the details for the forthcoming Transformers series for Marvel. Shooter recalls those days in a series of entries in his blog in 2011. Though most of O'Neil's suggestions were ultimately turned down or modified, one very significant idea was kept: the name "Optimus Prime".
