    I love both, very very good reads.
    But I don't know if they are must reads or not to get a feal of the DC univers.
    They are really specific.

    I'd argue the same for the Elseworlds you mentioned and all Elseworlds on principle. How can you get a feel for the DC universe with books outside that universe? How does Red Son, New Frontier, or Kingdom Come relate to the DC universe? Only by exploring those characters from a perspective you can't do in universe, from a place of contrast. And I'd say that the stories I mention meet that criteria as strongly as the ones you listed - only difference is you focused more on stories that included more characters, and I just named Batman ones, but you don't need to include as many characters as possible to get a feel for the universe, since each character represents a good chunk of the universe - especially any of the Trinity like Batman.
