We'll see how this effects Warren Ellis's future sales and employment prospects. I know I have very little interest in picking up anything new by him. Granted, I haven't had a strong desire to pick up anything from him since Planetary ended, but still...

I think the industry needs to take a look at itself when guys like Eddie Berganza got around for years completely scott-free (or getting promoted!).
Everyone knew it was going on but turned a blind eye to it or swept it under the rug.

This is a shame all around.

I only hope the usual assholes don't brigade the brave women speaking up against abuse, but sadly I know they will. Guess we'll see how this unfolds in the coming days.

This makes me wonder if DC is going to cancel his Batman book.

I guess it's a good thing DC's moved on from the Batgirl of Burnside direction Stewart was a part of (even if the costume is still getting used in media).

    So...advocating for the Devil here...

Did Ellis and Stewart lie about their age to the women they dated?
From what I gathered they willingly and knowingly went on a date(s) with a much older guy...Are the (poor) personal choices/decisions (ultimately unfortunate) by these women...women/adults...not to be taken into consideration, in these circumstances?

Where is personal accountability for your own actions and decisions?

    As for Mr. Stewart...

Stewart's interactions with a 16 yr old is nasty and inexcusable...no ifs, ands, or but about that...and he should have known better.
    But...
Where are the parents of the 16 yr old, Ms. Mai? And why did they allow her to go on dates with a 32 year-old man?
Did she not tell anyone that she was having suggestive email conversations with a 32 year old? If not...why keep it a secret? Didn't she herself know that what they were doing was socially unacceptable? And if she knew that, why go on multiple dates?

A 19 yr old is considered an adult...able to make his/her own choices freely. Unless the report left it out, I don't think any of them were forced into going on the dates with these men.
Barring any accounts and/or evidence of criminal conduct (drugs, rape, porn, coercion) which none of these articles have mentioned or alluded to...and without hearing the Men's side of the story, then the only "crime" here is consenting adults making very poor choices and decisions.

In regard to Ellis, they're bitter that he discarded them and went on to the next girl. If he had stayed with any of them, the girl he stayed with wouldn't be complaining about his "tactics"......The reality is they think they're entitled to have him remain in a relationship with them however long they want.

We also don't know if they actually did things which bothered him, and he broke up with them without communicating as to why. I've done that plenty of times. Some people are so toxic you just break it off without bothering to explain why you no longer want to deal with them (And, quite often, you'll have communicated earlier on without any change in their toxic behavior).

As for the age of the girls, one of them was 27 when she dated Ellis, and she made some tweets about how, "We were so young." .....So young at 27? Would she be playing the same victim act if she was 45?

I cannot speculate on what Stewart and Ellis did or didn't do while on those dates and in the relationships...as those details were not mentioned in the article. And they themselves are yet to give their side of the stories. (If they ever do)

I will say Stewart should have known better about flirtatiously interacting with a 16-yr old on Social Media and in person, going on dates. That is just wrong.

The Cameron Stewart and Ellis stories are not the same . Ellis was an asshole with an ex-girlfriend during a consensual relationship between two adults. For Cameron, it's more problematic, his interactions with 16 years old girls are disgusting and manipulative.

Well, Ellis has responded and, I gotta say, it's as good a mea culpa as he could have made given the circumstances. Like others have said, unlike Cameron Stewart's straight up illegal behavior, Warren Ellis has only been accused of being a complete @%$hole by the dozens and dozens of young women he took advantage of. Perhaps this will cause some genuine soul searching on Ellis's part and he'll come out of this less of a douchebag and he'll use this to craft some great stories that no longer glorify bastards who are clearly just fictionalized versions of himself.

Hello. Please forgive the lateness of my appearance. I have been speaking to people, and listening carefully, for a few days.

Recent statements have been made about me that need to be addressed.

I have never considered myself famous or powerful, to the point where I've made a lot of bad jokes about it for twenty-odd years. It had never really occurred to me that other people didn't see it the same way—that I was not engaging as an equal when gifted with attention, but acting from a position of power and privilege. I did not take that into account in a number of my personal interactions and this was a mistake and I own it.

While I've made many bad choices in my past, and I've said a lot of wrong things, let me be clear, I have never consciously coerced, manipulated, or abused anyone, nor have I ever assaulted anybody. But I was ignorant of where I was operating from at a time I should have been clear and for that I accept 100% responsibility.

I hurt people deeply. I am ashamed for these mistakes and I am profoundly sorry. I will not speak against other people's personal truths, and I will not expose them to the toxicity of the current discourse. I should have been more aware, more present, and more respectful of people's feelings and for that I apologise.

I have had friendships and relationships end, sometimes in bitterness, often due to my own failings, and I continue to regret and apologise for the pain I have caused.

I have always tried to aid and support women in their lives and careers, but I have hurt many people that I had no intention of hurting. I am culpable. I take responsibility for my mistakes. I will do better and for that, I apologise.

I apologise to my friends and collaborators for having created this situation, and I hope they will be treated kindly. Mistakes and poor choices in my personal life are not on them, but only on me.

We have a responsibility to one another, every day. And I have, in my past, let too many people down. I hope to one day become worthy of the trust and kindness that was placed in me by colleagues and friends.

I will continue to listen, learn, and strive to be a better human being. I have sought to make amends with people, as I have been made aware of my transgressions, and will continue to do so. I have apologised, I apologise, and will continue to apologise and take total responsibility for my actions without equivocation.

I am going to be quiet now, to listen more than I speak, for other voices matter far more than my own right now.

I will be closing this newsletter. Thank you for your past support. Look after yourselves.

    1st, GD he is talented...

2nd, his work suggests he will listen, and he has always been self-deprecating which gives weight to his statement about how he viewed himself.

3rd, HUGE difference of being called an Asshole BF or Ex and the Stewart Grooming young women stuff....HUUUUUUUGGGGEEEE <-- Just wanted to voice my agreement with everyone else.
If you are going to refute, you need to do your own research.

Great that Ellis has spoken up and apologised for his assholery.
However...men and women need to learn and recognise shitty behaviours and stay the fuck away from such people. Make better choices.

When it comes to Ellis I do not believe there are any victims.

Is he a successful guy who used his fame to get women? Maybe and maybe not...either way it isn't a crime. Did he go ghost on them after sometimes? Yup. That's not a crime either. I think to call them victims is a big reach.

Precisely.....Unless some surprising information comes out, there are no victims in this scenario. The hyperbole is mindblowing.

You mean he didn't walk around saying "I wrote Trees, on your knees" and they were helpless before his power?

Infantilizing women does them no service.

Conflating I dated adults that were younger than me with grooming underage girls is a pretty terrible thing to do and says a lot about the people doing it.
